JA made several points deliberately in her journal, point by point. These were her defense at the time, in case she was ever questioned by LE.
May 22 journal entry -
That BMW mention sticks out like a sore thumb for me.
Because she did not need to mention it but she squeezed it in.
More importantly, she didn't have to plant the payment check (dated May 25) in his office, but she did.
Was she about to receive an insurance pay-out check in her name? And Travis found out about this scam on May 22? Hence it was vital for her to make the payment to show BMW is really her car?
I think the pre-modified G-chat would have included this aspect.
Not sure about insurance scam idea. Interesting thought. And it would be info the defense would have pretty readily been able to get excluded (say, her insurance company indicating they had been ready to pay out to her, not Travis).
FWIW- what she told Flores about the BMW in June...
June 21 or 25 Flores phone interview with the killer

DF: Whats the situation with the car that was, somebody mentioned a BMW
JA: Yeah. Im buying his BMW.
DF: Okay because we found a check, it was written by you to him, I think it was last month.
JA: Mmm hmm.. Yeah. Yeah, I recently just mailed him a check. Um
he
I know as a matter of a few other things. He um
Im making payments to him.
24:40
DF: Okay. Hang on. You still have that car right now?
JA: No. Its actually not in my possession. I did the dumbest thing. Um
I went and hooked it up to the U-Haul. Everything was cool and set to go. I got the dolly (?) that where the back wheels are on the ground because it was cheaper, and the U-Haul guy said, Okay, drive it up here. Okay, Stop, Brake, and everything was cool, and I stopped the car and turned it off.
Got out of the car with the door open so they could look at everything and they shut the door and said, Youre good to go, and I took off, and this is going to sound really dumb, and I realize now this is not how you tow a car, but I left it in first gear.
25:12
DF: Yeah.
JA: and I started heading down the highway and I blew the engine to smithereens. So its sitting at Wes Auto something last time I checked and uh
theyve been acting really nice about keeping it until Travis figures out what he can do.
We called lawyers about it, and my lawyer said um
you know, have your insurance fix it, and his lawyer said your insurance might not fix it because it might be considered mechanical so thats the last we talked about it.
Weve been um
Hes been real busy and hasnt had a lot of time to attend to it, and I have a vehicle right now but not for much longer because I have to give it back to the bank, and so
um
you know.
25:56
DF: When did you mail that payment, the end of May?
JA: Uh
it was a few weeks ago. Yeah. It must have been.
DF: Okay. So youre still making payments for that?
JA: Oh, yeah. In fact, thats my first payment because I just
We just did this car deal like right before I moved, and weve been
Oh! We have a buyers agreement, too, I think, that I checked out and emailed to him um
but uh
We have
like he said just get on your feet, you know, and then start making payments, and the agreement was x amount per month whenever I get paid, so
I finally got a job and
i
(Chris Hughes has said the killer called Ts executor claiming Travis had sold her the car; he asked for proof, she sent a buyers agreement email she claimed shed sent to T, who had agreed to it. Chris said the email was obviously fraudulent. She was refused the car)
26:35
DF: What
was $200 the amount?
JA: Yeah. It was $100 a month from then on, and if I could pay more, pay more please, you know.
