Do you think it was a religious thang? As far as the closed casket goes? Maybe our family is weird (ok, I'll admit we are weird), but I can't remember ever having an open casket funeral going all the way back to my great-grandparents. My mom insisted on cremation, and my grandparents insisted on "no funeral". It took me ages to figure out where they were even buried.

My grandma (on my dad's side) had a funeral, but it was closed casket too.

In the UK (where my hubby is from) they don't do open caskets in his family either.

I guess that's where I get it from. Cremation, and no fancy funeral is my choice

I thought about that, but since SC was raised Catholic (and presumably baptised, communed & confirmed Catholic) I would guess they would go the catholic route of open caskets. Just my assumption though.

OT here but didn't they ever get any good leads on the Housman murder?

We just talked about this on Thursday, and no they didn't. The leads were in the thousands, most of it just weird BS, and he said they do still get leads from time to time just nothing worth bite to go on. I'd like to see them actively reopen it and do some touch DNA analysis on whatever they recovered when they found her body. That crime was horrendous and that beautiful little girl deserves justice.

I agree with you. There is no single damning factor for me either, it's the sum of the factors we do know. What we really know at this point is very little as this case has been played from MCS' vest since day one.

However, with that being said I think the biggest thing for me is the headline from the Post Dispatch on May 14th that says...

"Detectives declare Coleman case solved"
(headline online reads a bit differently than the printed version)

If the Detectives declared it solved, logic would say they would clear him as a suspect. Since they didn't/haven't that leads me to believe he is their suspect, but won't name him to delay handing over their investigative discovery to his attorneys while they await a GJ indictment. JMHO

That said, w all respect, it is simply that given what facts we have, I have to make many more assumptions--essentially to stand on my head while simultaneously bending over backwards--to perceive this husband and father as innocent than I do to conceive of his guilt. Now if this were a court of law or we jurors, then the burden of proof would be considerably higher. But this is not, it is a discussion--yet to be given even a forum of it's own thus inclusive of all angles, interests and perspectives. And your premise requires me to afford entirely too many benefits--to assume it was his "custom" to make calls each and every morning at this hour; to assume so called "threats" (which never constituted an actual crime) he claims were made upon him and his family are legit; to assume an intruder perfectly timed his entry, executions, and exit of family home in the short span of time he did an early morning workout; to assume this security pro, w all his high-tech knowledge and high-powered equipment left his threatened home unsecured from home invasion; to assume he and his family somehow became targets of the Columbia Spray Painting Psychokiller; and to further assume the extramarital affairs were A-0K w SC and such a betrayal would not have caused a conflict, confrontation, nor would it bear possible connection to a family annihilation. I dunno, it's asking alot. The only thing which could make this look any more damning IMO is if what's spraypainted on the wall is, "SODDI." JMO

I do too! You would think they'd want to take another closer look with the technology available now, that wasn't available then. We lived in the town where she was abducted from and I had very young boys at the time, so it hit too close to home wondering if anyone in the neighborhood was responsible (cough, cough). The husband spent weeks doing nothing but this case, even went on AMW for it.

I suspect you are LE. Did you work that case as well?

The circumstances also remind me of another crime where the husband/father didn't do it. - it was in Florida. The dad was a UPS driver - separated from his wife. He called his girls before school as he did every morning. When no one answered, he went over and found his wife and two girls killed. Everyone thought he had done it, but there was no evidence to suggest that other than no sign of forced entry. About a year later. a woman escaped from someone who had bound and raped her. The cord she had been bound with was the same cord used on the mother and two girls. It turned out the guy had worked as a handyman for the family. If he hadn't tried to harm another woman and she escaped, there would still be a cloud hanging over that poor dad's head."

The only thing they can possibly come up with is the SODDI (some other dude did it) defense and attack the evidence, LE, expert witnesses, and forensics. I don't see any other choice because an Insanity Plea won't fly here.

I predict the charges will be for premeditated First Degree Murder x 3 with aggravating circumstances (children being younger than 12 years old).

Manual strangulation would be very personal. You could strangle a person in very impersonal ways however. You could use a zip tie for instance, cinch it tightly around a person's neck, and walk away, moving on the the next victim.

A person could probably do 3 sleeping people in this way in under a minute. If you woke up with a zip tie tightened around your neck, I'm sure you would be far too panicky to do anything useful to save your own life in the few seconds of consciousness you had left.

I had NO idea you could strangle someone like that. Zip ties to me, are those things you use to hang Christmas lights around the porch. IF the perp did use zip ties, LE can usually find the manufacturer (maybe I watch too much Forensic Files) -- but I've watched how they retrace stuff right back to the store.

If in fact true, I hope this proves to be a good lead for LE and could be the reason it's taking so long for an arrest.

I have to share that I have never gone to a wake where the casket was closed. It may be a Catholic "thing", I don't know. Age made no difference.
