I miss the trial. I guess I'm weird like that. I miss our Justice for Travis family. Some of us are still here (sort of!) but most members aren't. Hopefully we can all *get together* again for the last phase of the trial.

If you guys don't mind, can you share more about looking for jobs. I know I will have to look for a new one in a few years, my boss' health, I hope he gets to retire first and enjoy some time, but...............I'll be an older employee looking.

It seems to me the online searches never bring much around here. At least when I get the chance to ask around, it seems they are just info gatherer's for the areas via google. Not job finders. Not much is ever in our newspapers anymore, as no jobs are there. It seems to me, going door to door (job wise) is all that is left.

We did have a bankruptcy lawyer leave a few years ago. While he was there he went through a lot of secretaries. However, he advertised via newspaper only. They could email or fax him only. He didn't pay much, as most do not, trust me! So, he would get hundreds of faxes that I would see. He only wanted complete sentences and someone willing to accept his low pay and no benefits.

He, of course, only hired college students, and one housewife. I am in the same position with my boss, but I have been there 17 years, and barely pay the rent, utilities, etc... I just do not have a background to go anywhere else. Well, maybe Capital One still hires, but they also lay off a lot.

Maybe an old idea, don't know if it still works, but the unemployment agencies used to have lists of jobs and you could go down and try to qualify through their office. Maybe that is no longer in effect, I don't know.

Ricki, one more thing to add that is not helpful though.

That bankruptcy lawyer would actually choose which applicants to interview. He interviewed, I have no idea how many, actual paralegals that sent in resumes and appropriate cover letters, just to put them down for asking for a job paying $45,000.00 per year. He got a kick out of putting them down for being silly enough to apply. I thought it was awful as he was a lawyer advertising and did not include a rate or lack of benefits. I assume parelegals make that much or close to it. I don't know, my income is very, very much lower, going on 20 years and never going to get any better in a small office of those that make it, but spend it. I had to fight many times to get health insurance. It has been taken away just as many, and now it is worthless, as Planned Parenthood bothered to tell me when I went, when I had a bf that was not worth me going anyway, haha!

Truth is, there is no one size fits all way to search for a job anymore. You have to use every and any resource possible. Word of mouth, personal recommendations, newspapers, Craigs List, online job boards, company websites and hitting the pavement.

If I came across a job post that interested me, but it did not give enough information, I would send out an inquiry prior to applying. I did not want to waste the employer's time or mine if it was obviously not going to be a good fit.

I used to get feedback to try to hide my age, just like you've been given Ricki. In reviewing a resume, the reviewer will put 2 plus 2 together if you leave out dates. Truth is, most applicants do have some area of concern about their work history. Not enough experience, too much experience, too long with one company or too many job changes. Too old, too young. The thing is that we're looking at it from old standards; people no longer end up with a life-long career at one employer. From both an employer and employee perspective, 10 years seems to be the norm nowadays.

Mercy, that lawyer sounds like a quintessential jerk. You'd think that he would want to devote more time to his practice than demoralizing women hungry for a job.

I tell you, this job searching is really frustrating. I have signed up with so many online job sites it's getting confusing. I have applied for so many jobs and no hits, no phone calls or e-mails back. I know the age is getting in the way. I have signed up with an employment agency recently...still nothing. I have been looking for over a year and have been feverishly pursuing it the last few months. If I don't find a job soon I will be in a real pickle. Severance almost gone, unemployment done. They cut the 4th tier because they claim the economy has picked up and they say unemployment is down. Well, I just don't seen that. Unemployment is down IMO because unemployment has run out for people. Most are still unemployed. My rant for the night. This is the pits. Most days I am on line looking, revamping my resume, reading articles on job searching help. Many articles on age discrimination. I am bored sitting home, discouraged and wondering if I will ever have a decent job again.

Gosh - had to look at the name of the poster to 'see' if I didn't post this!! I know what you mean Ricki - got laid of in 2008, finally found a couple of temp jobs in 2010 - so have a gap fo 2 years there with no work... then they couldn't find me a job, so went to another temp agency - worked from April, 2012 til this April, and was PROMISED the same job after 3 months... but now they say they don't have money in the budget for the job - so AGAIN I look for another job. :banghead: Can't believe I can't find one??!! I bet it's my age - and I believe THAT is why I got laid off in 2008. Not much I can do about that I guess.

Good luck if you need to start looking! Re the bold parts - here either - absoluted nothing offered in the newspapers!! Here in California we have a website for EDD that you can apply for jobs, instead of going to the agencies themselves, but still nothing - I've applied to 35 jobs on their sites - not an email, phone call, no peep!! I'm about to give up :truce: and move to northern Europe... I could live like a queen on my Social Security!!

Well, I guess I am not the only one in this predicament. I wanted to post it for so long, but was a little embarrassed.:blushing: I know I shouldn't feel that way but you kind of start feeling useless. Lets stick together and see if we can fix this glitch in our lives.

My mom did not work either. Those days are over. I have the grand kids to keep me busy and they do a good job of that. I can't give up. Pretty broke here. Hubby is self employed and that does not work out like it use to back in the 80's and 90's. Hoping, praying something comes soon, and I really hope I can get something I really enjoy and feel like I am making a contribution. If I have to work in my golden years than I want to like it. I just hope that is an option.

Hi, geevee. Thinking a lot about what negotiations may be concluding as we move toward trial plans, jury selection & the shortage of defenders from C.M.'s past. The three weeks ahead will fly by. I don't think the attorneys will waive the right to argue their Vacate motion after scheduling it. However, I do think they dread it.

What other thread were you reading? I went on the Josh Young Trial thread and watched a bit on HLN. HLN had a lot of misinformation and our fellow posters had it right. Too convoluted a trial for me to fully comprehend and HLN was no help. TG for WS
