They have the worst webcam I've ever seen, but it is a little better when they don't zoom in so much. I watch them 10 times a day or so! And that's what I want for Xmas, a real panda! :floorlaugh:

They get big- I don't think your dogs will be happy, but maybe they'll get use to your panda. :floorlaugh:
Good evening daisy :seeya:

Hello! Popping in quick and trying to catch up...hard to do on my stupid phone. Will have to wait til tomorrow. I miss you guys :(

Had a breathing treatment...doc says it's acute bronchitis with bronchial spasms. Put me on an antibiotic, Prednisone for 20 days, and an inhaler. Have to see my primary doc in 3 weeks so he can check for asthma. Wish I'd listened to my "mamas" and gone sooner!

Love y'all!

BBM I think you mean the slump test which is a neurological test.
http://www.thestudentphysicaltherapist.com/slump-test.html
I never heard of a SLUM test for Alzheimer's- maybe something new??
------------------------------------------------------------------------
Here are the neurological kinds of testing for Alzheimer's:

During a neurological exam, the physician will closely evaluate the person for problems that may signal brain disorders other than Alzheimer's.The doctor will look for signs of small or large strokes, Parkinson's disease, brain tumors, fluid accumulation on the brain, and other illnesses that may impair memory or thinking.

The physician will test:

Reflexes
Coordination, muscle tone and strength
Eye movement
Speech
Sensation

If the evaluation does not indicate Alzheimer's disease or a related dementia, but the symptoms continue to get worse over time, your doctor may need to order more tests or you may wish to get a second opinion.

The neurological exam may also include a brain imaging study.

http://www.alz.org/alzheimers_disease_steps_to_diagnosis.asp
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
I hope it's not Alzheimer's; it's such a heartbreaking disease.
I'll be praying for you and your BF. How old is he, if I may ask?

I don't know, his caregiver rattled off "SLUMS", Googled "Alzheimer's SLUM" and it popped right up. Saint Louis University Mental Status Examination. https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&rct=j&q=&esrc=s&source=web&cd=1&cad=rja&ved=0CEMQFjAA&url=http%3A%2F%2Falzheimers.about.com%2Fod%2Ftestsandprocedures%2Fa%2FSaint_Louis_University_Mental_Status_Examination.htm&ei=Hh4MUuSOJs3eyAHjyIGgAg&usg=AFQjCNEJxMWSGtOIptfWELo4FdjXiYqAlA&bvm=bv.50723672,d.aWc
He has to have scans and pokes and needles.......
He's going to be 65 in October. His mother's sister has AD. His father only lived to see 65 and being a war vet also, his "dementia" was never really taken into account just because his generation were supposed to be "men", suck it up, and all that.
I think he's concerned I'm going to kick him to the curb. If I know what the issue is, I can deal with it. You can't fault a person for having a genetic, organic, or whatever illness. I'm not going anywhere. Rode out his 2 heart attacks, knee surgery, and 2 trips to the nut hut just in the 1st 5 years.
Just don't call me a masochists! :floorlaugh:

No. But Avalon is a mythical place in Arthurian legend and also a movie called Avalon- which I love( makes me cry all the time) :

Avalon - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
=========================================================
Avalon movie review:

http://www.rogerebert.com/reviews/avalon-1990-1

All happy families are alike but an unhappy family is unhappy after its own fashion.

--Tolstoy

This is one of the most familiar quotations in literature for the excellent reason that it states a truth everyone can recognize. The strength of Barry Levinson's "Avalon" is that it starts as a movie about a happy family and shows why it became unhappy after its own fashion. During the first half hour of the film, my heart sank because it seemed to be another of those potted biopics about an immigrant family's legends and eccentricities, all three times as colorful as life. Then the colors began to darken and the mood began to change, and the film deepened into the story of many American families which have grown apart over the generations.

Movie sounds good, maybe Netflix has it. Thanks :)

Thanks, Bernina for that website. I like to know about the different tests for Alzheimer's. I only knew about the MMSE test and the neurological tests.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
The Saint Louis University Mental Status Examination (SLUMS) was designed as an alternative screening test to the widely used Mini-Mental State Examination (MMSE). The idea was that the MMSE is not great at diagnosing people with very early Alzheimer's symptoms. Sometimes referred to as Mild Cognitive Impairment (MCI) or Mild Neurocognitive Disorder (MNCD), these occur as people progress from normal aging to early Alzheimer's. As with any Alzheimer's test, the SLUMS is a screening test and does not substitute for a full diagnostic work-up for Alzheimer's disease.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
Your not a masochist- just a caring person. Thank goodness your BF has you.

Here's the 10 warning signs for Alzheimer's, if you're interested:

Memory loss that disrupts daily life.YES
Challenges in planning or solving problemsYES
Difficulty completing familiar tasks at home, at work or at leisure.YES
Confusion with time or placeYES
Trouble understanding visual images and spatial relationships.YES
New problems with words in speaking or writing.YES
Misplacing things and losing the ability to retrace steps.OMG, YES
Decreased or poor judgment.YES
Withdrawal from work or social activitiesYES
Changes in mood and personality.Like, MAJOR YES

http://www.alz.org/national/documents/checklist_10signs.pdf ( for more indept explanations of signs)

He printed out several of those "10 signs of AD" from several sites and was like "Oh boy".
Today, classic example, asked me where the "heat gun" was....whaaaa...? We don't have a heat gun. Finally, after about 5 minutes (and strongly urging him NOT to borrow my son's) he said, "the thing you dry the chickens off with when you give them a bath". (Ok, don't laugh, Chinese silkies have to be washed and groomed when you show them!) I was still showing the first few years we were together...

A BLOW DRYER! For a second I thought he was talking "broiled chicken".

This has been my life for the last 3 years, we went to relationship counseling and I thought we could find answers there, maybe his meds were wacked, maybe he just had this mean streak, and was accident prone, forgetful, "stuck on stupid" at times....but his counselor only deals with the PTSD side. It's like "Dude, Don is NOT the person I met 9 years ago, something is wrong." "Oh, I only deal with the PTSD". Ok, Skippy, whatever you say." Went to 3 sessions, some kind of crazy "OMOGO" therapy, whatever, I have my own therapist, so I know it ain't me!
At 52, I know this is NOT going to be the last relationship I have just cause I come from those long life "Centurions" that would have been on Willard Scott's Birthday greetings if that tickled their fancy. And AD doesn't run in my family, "craziness"? YES. If my longevity goes the way of my ancestors, I won't even have a cane or wheelchair to toss at anyone when I get cranky!!!

I wish you and your bf the best in trying to get some answers. The process can be long and difficult, especially with neurological issues.

I hit the end of the road with neurologists and have not been able to gather up the fortitude to pick up the fight again. It is scary to see decline and not have a name for it or anyone to help.

Last week, my son was walking across the front yard and I spotted him about 10 feet from where I was sitting. I thought it was some stranger in the neighborhood and it frightened me when I realized it was my son who I did not recognize at first.

That's why I wouldn't be able to kick him to the curb, I'm a compassionate person.
How can you do this all alone? My hearts hurts just thinking about that!:heartbeat:

Movie sounds good, maybe Netflix has it. Thanks :)

I really think this movie touched something in me about how I feel the world has changed so much from when I grew up. Even tho' this movie is about a Russian Jewish family, I can relate it to my Italian roots and how families are not families anymore- with whole generations in the same house (and I do blame TV's for that and how families are so apart nowadays- amongst other things). I loved that we had Grandparents and other family members living with us- we were so alive with life and I miss all the family get-togethers- with long formal dinners on holidays and Sundays.
I'm just a mush :blushing: and, maybe, wish my parents were still alive.

YUCKO! And in the summertime!
I had a case of Bronchitis that laid me up in bed for 6 weeks, my x-ray came back looking like a spider had invaded my lungs, I kid you not! Somehow, between seeing my regular doc and a few ER visits ("My throat is closing up, I can't breath!!!!) I got double dosed on Phenergan w/codeine. Why I had on the Christian Television Network, I just don't know, but the hallucinations I had? The walls were melting, the wife of the Pastor had these big fake eyelashes that kept moving around her face, his mustache flew off his face and was doing "rolls" over my bed.....at some point I must have rolled onto the channel changer.....MTV was a lot easier to deal with, LOL! Although, the astronaut on the moon with the MTV flag really threw me for a loop, like didn't they already put a man on the moon? :floorlaugh:
