I think she'll set a date, probably for the first of the year. In the meantime she may have hearings for all the motions Nurmi/Willmott filed and will file between now and then, it looks like they're just getting warmed up, and all will have to be dealt with before jury selection. So the slow trod until jury selection gets underway, which they'll probably have to send out a slew of summons in order to get the requisite number seated. If the defense has their way, the selection process will take as much time as the retrial. lol

I imagine, like last time, the judge will be ready to hear arguments on the motions and the DT will say they are not prepared to argue their own motions. The judge will probably have the intention of setting a date for fall but the DT will make that impossible. And this will probably go on and on for a while. It's so frustrating. I really wish that jury hadn't hung.

PrincessSezMe, thank you for bringing us the refresher, Opening Statement 1-13, Juan Martinez. It was really good to go over the evidence & his interpretation before the pre-trial conference. Studying J.A.'s facial expressions again was useful too. Putting this on page 9 was a nifty convenience.

I'm glad you mentioned that Tuba, I was meaning to rewatch it and forgot until I saw your post. :)

This seems like the right day to join in prayer for the healing of Josie1986's fractures. There is great power in numbers seeking a curative blessing for her. Good time too?

Defense has had plenty of time to prepare for this second phase of the trial. To say they are not ready is an admission that they really will never be ready because there is nothing to prepare. JA has nothing to mitigate. They have admitted that. Time to move on. jmo

:goodpost:

This is the first trial that I have followed and it has been an eye opener to watch the live stream of court proceedings.

Does anyone know about the autonomy of judges in Arizona? Does JSS answer to anyone, and is it possible that she could get pressure to move the trial along? I wonder what her peers think about her handling of the case.

From what I understand this was her first DP case to try so I would imagine she would have someone over her. Most judges answer the a chief judge but I'm not sure about Arizona. Good question for AZLawyer.

Anyone think that Judge Stephens will set a date for retrial tomorrow? Or will there just be another date set for a case management conference?

I hope so,i am pulling for a september trial and a verdict on my birthday.

completely agree,i can totally see then going into court tomorrow and being all oh we haven't had enough time blah blah, this is where if i was the judge here i would blow my top....nurmi filed a late reply for one of his motions when he as a full month or so to do it. i would freaking explode and say we are going to trial in mid september, youve had plenty of time there were nearly 5 years pre trial and you dragged it out in trial. enough is enough!

they should just admit defeat because whether she gets lwop or the dp,they ultimately lost with the guilty of 1st degree murder verdict.

i honestly wouldn't be surprised if nurmi was just stringing it our for more $$$$$

You're welcome Tuba. I honestly didn't even think a video existed of Juan's opening statement. All I had ever found before was the audio. It was good to see him in action again.

Another clip I re-watched was Dr. DeMarte's testimony. I still can't believe the vitriol that spewed from Jennifer Wilmott during both the direct and cross of that witness. I was truly embarrassed for Wilmott.

Oh no! I hope you're feeling better! My mom comes down with that at least once a year. I think she secretly enjoys it, as she doesn't have to deal with her kiddos for a few days lol.

Last night was fun! Blind date, I think we both knew within a few min that it wasn't going to be a love connection so we just had a fun, pressure-free night.

I found a recipe on Pinterest for stuffed peppers and made them this evening....SOOOO yummy!

Oh M - I LOVE stuffed bell peppers - could you post the receipe here when you get time??!!! TIA!! :seeya:

I sure HOPE that JSS sets a September trial date tomorrow... anyone know if it will be streamed? on WAT, no doubt??

Wow...after Nurmi's twitter motion, I thought that there would be no more tweets from CMJA until at least after a ruling from JSS.

I thought wrong:

Jodi Arias ‏@JodiAnnArias 1h

"The media will grab a specious story and run with it; soon it's accepted as fact..It's a form of willful ignorance." - Bill Goodykoontz

FWIW, Bill Goddykoontz is a reporter at the Arizona Republic; looks to be a film critic. Ironic that he is tied to the media and the same paper as Michael Kiefer. Mere coincidence?

Forget irony. There is something highly suspicious about this tweet. Last week, CMJA's DT filed a flurry of motions, all centering on the media. Tomorrow there is a court hearing and today, CMJA tweets a quote from a month old movie review with the media at the core of its message? Hard to believe that CMJA just happened to read a movie review and memorize the quote for use a month down the road.

Something very fishy is going on and I don't like it at all. This is by no means a coincidence; it is a concerted effort.

Where is everyone lately? Where is The Queen, and where are Miss daisy and Zuri? :scared:

It's 102 degrees F. here today with the humidity. :( It's so uncomfortable if you don't have air conditioning. :hot: The air is so thick you can't breathe.

Yes, I am. Summer temps have finally started and I am enjoying it. I like temps 85 to 95.
Thanks for asking.

102 In Canada??? Wow, I thought it never got that hot up North. Get a Sonic limeade.

Weather is crazy lately. Our usual daytime highs this time of year are mid 70's, going down to low 50's at night. I wish! I'm not much for the heat. If I was I'd be living in AZ :floorlaugh:.

PS - we don't have sonic here. We go for 7-11 Slurpees. We're the Slurpee capital of Canada. :floorlaugh:
