That's an interesting bit of news at KPHO. So Nurmi & Arias in chambers was the scene of yet another request/demand "Let me off this case, Judge!" I think Arias also discussed her options as of July 16, expressed concern over her lack of mitigation witnesses, sought answers about funds to pay for them, and begged to be allowed to wear street clothes in court.

Did I read correctly in Nurmi's requests that ALV refused to continue on this case due to a death threat? Me thinks she doesn't want to continue due to her damaged reputation and possible perjury charges. JMO

JMO but I don't think they are afraid due to death threats but consequences of their past actions. ALV perjury and Patty allegedly getting money for selling pics and then getting state aid illegally.

I really think the defence is lying re: Patti there. They are conveniently twisting a situation to suit their own ends, and that goes for ALV too. Notice as time goes on the story gets bigger and bigger. The judge knows the truth, she was in all the in chamber discussions, I'm starting to see why all their motions are dismissed.

They are being really manipulative. They know whoever they put on the stand is going to get ripped apart and that pisses them off. So, in true Jodi fashion, let's blame everyone else. The Travis supporters, the prosecutor, the media. It's everyone else's fault. It couldn't possible be that Patti a druggie welfare fraud committing media who hasn't even really seen Jodi in years, could it? It couldn't possible be that Patti planned to lie and say that Jodi had an abusive family when she'd previously said she had a great family, could it? And what really pisses me off is she included it in her allocution. What a...

And ALV. This 'itch. She was completely ripped apart. She was exposed as a fraud, she committed perjury and she misrepresented her credentials. Didn't she get in huge trouble with the judge? Yeah, wonder why she isn't going to testify...

I am not worried. Juan will put it on the record for posterity the REAL reason why no one came to testify for Jodi, and he will do it with gusto and without hesitation. He HATES ALV.

A combo of incompetence and poor witnesses by the defense team is the real story here. My guess? It'll take them another whole year for them to say, "we aren't going to call any witnesses, your honor." What a sham.

Also, if there are really legitimate death threats being made against them, then they need to provide some proof. Else, the judge will be forced to "guess" again why they are not showing (and my "guess" is the judge already knows). Seems the only ones out there making legitimate death threats against anyone are Jodi's nutbag supporters. Two already arrested.

ALV was an expert witness who was caught lying on the stand and was biased in favor of Jodi. Someone who is supposed to be an impartial evaluator. There is no way the defense can put her on the stand. The only credible psychological expert in this trial was Dr. Demarte and, of course, the defense wants to use her and mooch off the state's findings even though they fought tooth and nail during the trial to discredit her diagnosis.

I don't think I've ever seen a more incompetent defense team.

I actually think Nurmi has a point in regards to the way ppl were encouraged to act out against witnesses in this case, it was pretty unbelievable and I have never seen anything like it before, and worse, it seems to have set a precedent and have noticed it on other cases since. Not great. Other than that, I think Nurmi is exaggerating and using the situation and basically embellishing the truth for legal leverage. So I think he is playing into the witness abuse in a way. Patti herself said she was not threatened, she was upset about a few things that happened on FB and Twitter however, and the so called arrest warrant is actually just an excel spreadsheet someone made up if you take a look at it, but I'll get off that soapbox for now.

Anyway, Nurmi is just throwing what he can at the wall and hoping some sticks, because he needs things on the record for the next lawyer who comes along and tries to mount an appeal based on the unsequestered jury / media coverage combo.

Well, it is true about her. Juan was going to question her about her drug history and her de-frauding her welfare, minutes later, she was pulled as a witness.

I know that the reason she pulled out is not due to the threats. Because that morning she was all ready to go. She was in court and certainly didn't look particularly frightened. And if I had a friend who was facing the DP and I was possibly what stood between her and death and I believed in her as a person, I wouldn't let a few idiots on the internet deter me.

I realize there are probably some zealous people out there who got very into the trial and got carried away with some of the witnesses and probably said some abhorrent things. But death threats are treated very seriously and if they have them, they should turn them over to police. Still have not seen one shred of proof that either of these witnesses' lives were threatened.

They also act as though the only side getting any heat from the public is their side. I am willing to bet there have been scarier and more intense threats made against Martinez. Her supporters are scary.

Also, if the defense doesn't put up any witnesses, Juan doesn't get to call any witnesses either to go against Jodi. They know what they are doing and it is all a ploy for future appeal purposes.

That all may be true, but I do think her getting the heat put on her by Juan had played a main part.

She didn't want to lie for Jodi, she thought the letter she got mean she HAD to go to court, it didn't .. once she got there she got advice and so she beat feet. She does not support Jodi. I think she did the right thing by NOT testifying and showed strength by standing up for what was right that day.

I don't know. She might be saying that now.

But previous to this she had given several interviews where she sounds to support Jodi, talks about what a wonderful person she was, and that Travis must have done something really terrible to her to cause her to react in such a way, that she was perfectly normal before she met him. She sure sounded like a Jodi supporter in the past. Wasn't she also sitting and laughing in court with the family during Martinez' statements and flipping him off?

Also, maybe she did have a lawyer that advised her. Maybe. But wasn't it Juan that said that he was questioning her, Wilmott pulled her aside, and then she came back and pleaded the fifth, which meant Wilmott wrongfully acted as her counsel?

My guess? She was ready to testify about the abuse. She got the heat put on her, and changed her mind.

Sorry, but I don't really thing I believe everything she is saying. Just don't. If she's subsequently changed her mind on Jodi when she realized she basically had to lie for her, and that's one thing. But...yeah, IDK.

To me, CMJA summarized it herself in her interview with Troy Hayden immediately following the guilty verdict when she said "I've been told that I don't have any mitigating factors."

The DT is scrambling now because they can't come up with anything. Zip, nada, zilch and they know it.

This case attracted attention very early on due to the savage nature of the killing and a soft voiced young woman who kept coming up with implausible stories. I think Patti went on a journey with this situation, but she does not support Jodi, she was her friend, she couldn't imagining her doing such a thing, acceptance took awhile etc, but she has accepted it and does not support her now.

Agree .. They're desperate and it shows! Also has anyone ever met a killer who loved media more than Jodi? If she uses media attention as an appeallate issue down the line it will be super ironic, but I'm sure she will.

I admit, I didn't see her flipping off Juan I only heard about it. I did see her sitting and laughing with the family during Juan's emotional opening statements.

I guess you are fully in this witness's corner. That's ok. I realize she is not the one who murdered Travis or who is on trial. I don't hate her.

But the idea that she's a hero for pulling out is kind of silly to me. Her "adivising counsel" was the one that was going to suborn perjury for her and they are the ones that told her to pull out. So I doubt it's because they didn't want her to get in trouble. They just realized that she wasn't going to work for them. She was going to testify. I saw her in court. She looked relaxed and didn't seem scared or nervous.

Now, if she has come to the realization that Jodi is a monster, that Travis is not a bad guy, that Jodi's defense was going to use her to play tricky with her, and that she's changed her tune, that is totally great. But it really pissed me off when she was talking about a relationship she had no idea about and spreading the idea that Jodi was totally normal until she met him, implying that Travis must have changed her for the crazier.

ETA: just saw the video. She was clearly high and nodding off. So yea, guess that wasn't her fault.
