I just called the non-emergency line again. A different dispatcher this time, said they'll send someone out. I told them that's what the last dispatcher said and I haven't seen anyone yet, he said they're busy on a Friday night but someone will be out.

Seriously?? This is Des Moines, IA. Not a big city. Ugh.

It really does take a long time for response on a Friday night. We're here with ya.

And Linda, and Bernina, and Niner and Nore and anyone else I've forgotten. COME ON DOWN for dinner some time. I love to cook for those that enjoy it.

On my way! I'll bring my appetite and a nice bottle of wine:)

This is a seriously good stew. And if you're not into fussing with the butter squash, use potatoes or sweet potatoes. I substituted the brocolli for carrots and some peas (brocolli doesn't belong in a stew IMO), but otherwise it was great. I also thickened it with a bit of cornstarch when it was done because I like a hearty stew and it was more like soup. I also put dumplings in it because hubby was going to pout if I didn't put dumplings in the stew. :floorlaugh:. If anyone wants the recipe let me know and I'll post it and my famous dumpling (never fail) recipe.

Do you think it would freeze well? I love to cook but since it's just me I tend to freeze a lot of the stuff I make. I love chili, so I'll make a crockpot full of it and freeze half. Same with lasagna.

I would love the recipe, regardless. Post it!

The activity around there sounds like they're selling drugs. if you have security in the complex keep calling them, or the police. Be careful! Complain to the management about all the noise.

---------
Call narc division and tell them you suspect drugs. It worked for me, out 2 days later..be sure to mention child neglect. I know I'm not alone here when I say I would like to beat the crap out of them..our kids die ..:stormingmad:

Call CPS tonight.

If and when they go outside again tonight and you see the kids in harms way, call 911. ITA with Linda7 NJ. it may feel uncomfortable, but doing this may save them from certain death, let alone a dangerous environment. You are awesome M.

There's actually a police car over there now, I'm sitting on the patio with my phone in my lap. I doubt anything will happen tonight but at least they'll have these people on their radar. Those poor babies :( I just don't get it.

Hey friends! Princess, soup sounds delish. Wish I could cook. You all are talented!

Hi, I'd like the dumpling recipe. Can I use them in the crock pot? I'm making stew tomorrow for me and Buffy.. Thanks.:seeya:

Not sure how they would cook in a crockpot, but recipes I've found say put them on for the last hour of cooking your stew. Here's the recipe:

1 C flour
1/2 Tsp. Salt
1 1/2 Tsp Baking Powder
2 TBSP of vegetable Oil
1/3 C of milk
1 egg

Mix dry ingredients well. Mix all wet ingredients together in a measuring cup. Make a well in the center of dry ingredients and add wet ingredients. Mix to form a soft dough (it will be sticky, and that's good). Place by spoonfuls on top of stew and cover tightly. Boil gently for 15 minutes (on stove), or cover very tightly and cook for 60 minutes in slow cooker. Do not lift lid while cooking.

One slow cooker recipe I found said to put tin foil over the top of the slow cooker, and then the lid. The trick is to keep the steam in.

I need to vent, I hope I don't catch any flack for this. I just called the non-emergency police line on my neighbors. I live in an apartment complex and it's always pretty quiet here. I live on the first floor and sit outside on my patio a lot when the evenings are nice. Let me just say that I'm NOT a parent, so be gentle with me. I really hope I don't sound judgemental. And I'm sorry for the long post!

These people moved in a few weeks ago, I don't even know who all is living there because there are always people coming and going. There is at least one little one, maybe close to 2 yrs? Anyway, the man and woman are always sitting outside, and the little boy runs around in just his diaper. He's adorable! Anyway, they don't pay attention to him. He runs ALL over the place, including out in the parking lot. I don't know how many times I've seen the dad finally get up and chase after him. The mom just sits in her chair and laughs. I'm a tad naive, but I'm not stupid. The dad can barely walk a straight line, there are people coming over ALL hours of the night (i'm an insomniac and go outside to smoke during the night) and they only stay for a few minutes, there's a lot of arguing between the adults, etc. I could go on and on. I've seen this baby running around at 2am :(

Anyway, tonight. I was sitting outside. There are 4 adults over there on their patio, and 3 kids...the baby in his diaper and 2 young girls (under 5 I'm guessing). They're playing IN THE PARKING LOT, an timd a car comes flying through. Thank goodness for the speed bump or this car would've hit at least one of the kids. The adults started laughing and I heard the "dad" say to one of the others "you go get him this time. He doesn't listen to me." Seriously?? I actually went over there (i'm in my pjs with no bra even lol) and asked if they needed a babysitter for the night. I said that clearly nobody wanted to watch the kids and they were going to get hurt with no supervision. Only one adult made eye contact with me and he just said "they're fine. Go home and don't worry about it."

They've gone inside since but I'm totally worried sick about these babies. The dispatcher said they'll check it out but I doubt they will.

Take pictures and call Child Protective Services. I don't know if that would be reckless endangerment or child endangerment, but it is neglectful behavior.

If I thought drug dealing was going on (and yes, it sounds like they're dealing), I'd go talk to CID at your local police station and just say you've noticed a lot of visitors at all hours of day and night that don't stay for long from your new neighbors and you have some concerns. Let them know you've called CPS about the baby in the street, too.

Yes, it should freeze just fine. Here's the recipe m. It's not mine it's Kraft's :floorlaugh:.

ETA: WARNING increase the liquid by about a cup or so if you're going to go for the dumplings. They really suck up the juice. I added about a cup of extra beef broth to compensate.

ETA2: Feel free to add you own spices. I added four packets of beef boulion powder, about 1/2 tsp of hot chili pepper spice and some cayenne pepper. It's all up to you.

If you hotline it to CPS they can open an investigation and get a good look around inside that apartment! If you call tonight, within the next 24 hrs they will be out. You will have at the very least started a paper trail.
Tell them ...Lack of supervision and suspected drug use. Oh and the parents appear to be so impaired they aren't even capable of supervision.

Btw, thanks for all the good wishes. Adaire won first place in the International Hunter Futurity Yearling Fillies. Beautiful ribbons.

Met some nice people. One lady asked me about friends and if I was able to get out much to see them. I told her I had you all and I talked to you every night. I didn't say you all were "virtual". No need. You all are as real as it gets. Thanks for being there. These ribbons were for you. :seeya:

How are you my friend? How is your horse doing?

I'll be up late. For you tennis fans, Serena is just starting and is not happy about it. It's almost midnight and she played doubles earlier today sh she must be quite tired. She's in a bad mood, which she will it take out on the tennis balls.

OMG Linda, I worked with people from India. We couldnt use the microwave because it stunk from their food. They never cleaned it out, we werent about to. They use gobs of curry. People used to complain the store smelled. Now we werent used to this as the previous owner was the funeral director and spotless clean. We always worked hard to keep it that way. It was appreciated. Nick the F.D. I dont know how he pulls it off now he is just too full of life for F.D..:floorlaugh:
