And because of the motion snafu that was yanked, I think we can guess Dr. Karp will be a mitigation witness? That ought to be really interesting. Thanks gc. :)

There's no way Dr. Karp could be a defense mitigation witness, since Jodi lied to her and reported a huge number of domestic violence incidents with Travis. Dr. Demarte testified about the ridiculous number she told Dr. Karp and how she only claimed 4 with ALV.

I'm sure Juan would love to have Karp on the stand!

Can someone point me in the right direction--I need the photo of Jodi Arias with her arm around her sister that shows her left hand. It's the one Juan used in court. Thanks!!

You can screen shot it from the YT, it's at the beginning of the testimony:

I sure he'd love that too. I won't be surprised though, JA has shown she can wriggle like the best of 'em when needing new lies, and Karp is the only one they haven't used and abused to JA's benefit. Yet.

I have a different take on that motion that was deleted. If in fact it was summarized correctly "Defense motion to preclude penalty phase rebuttal evidence related to expert witness Dr. Cheryl Karp", my thought was that Martinez wanted to use someone like DeMarte to bring into play some of Karp's observations/notes that were on file.

I did not take this to mean that the DT intended to have Karp as a mitigation witness. Instead, they want to preclude the State from being able to use anything from Kaarp's notes against their client, the convicted murderer.

MOO

You may be right gc, but I thought that was the State filing to preclude, not the defense. Was that the mistake, that it said 'State' instead of 'Defense'?

Yeah--that's what it says. The defense doesn't want Juan to use the fact that Jodi lied to Dr. Karp about the countless occasions of domestic violence. They'll have an expert to testify to Jodi's claims of abuse-probably they will have to stick to the story that she told ALV--and they don't want evidence to the contrary--i.e. the different lie she told Karp.

And I don't see how it wouldn't come in. She gave a different set of lies to her own Dr.--what a moron Jodi is!

The State would not be filing to preclude testimony that directly shows that Jodi lied about the domestic violence to Dr. Karp. Where does it say "State?" Can you link it?

These things are so difficult to sort out! They might as well be in Latin.

I really, really hope that Jodi takes the stand again. She has no inkling at how she is perceived--the vast majority dislikes her immediately--she still thinks she's a "blonde bombshell" and that she can still use this to manipulate everyone. She really has no idea that she's revolting.

I'm with you in that her taking the stand ultimately works against her, contrary to the humanizing and bonding with the jury conventional wisdom. IMO, the DT shot themselves in the foot by having her up there lying, which now precludes many other possible witnesses (i.e., her family) when she needs them now the most.

Do you think that her DT was caught off guard by the first degree murder conviction? Did they put all of their eggs in one basket, thinking she'd get off with manslaughter?

If you had to bet, do you think the DT is counseling her towards or against taking the stand again?

BBM I don't know about that. At least one "mere mortal" fell for missy :jail: "hook, line, and sinker" when it came to DP or Life. He wanted to talk to her- maybe help her when she was in :jail: :stormingmad: I don't think she'll take the stand again-heaven knows, we don't need another trial that lasts for 5 months :scared:

Submerged cars found in Okla. may solve cold cases:

Peoples said he was confident the Camaro held the remains of the three teens, who were identified as Leah Johnson, Michael Rios and Jimmy Williams. The origins of the bones in the second vehicle were less clear.

Tim Porter of Enid said he believed the remains could be those of his grandfather, John Albert Porter, who disappeared along with two other people in 1969.
"We're hoping these individuals, that this is going to bring some sort of closure to some families out there who have been waiting to hear about missing people," Randolph said.

JM is a real trial master, I think he'll take whatever strategy they come up with and use it to his advantage, whether she takes the stand again or not, he'll make sure either senario benefits his case.

She had to take the stand before in order to get the self defense stuff in there, she probably doesn't need to in the rerun but she will, they won't be able to talk her out of it, I don't think. It's her show and she's the star and she's going to squeeze every drop out of it she can.

Another thought I've had unrelated to this stuff, but about her tweets about people writing her and she'd do it for free and all that stuff? Once the verdict came in I bet the 'donations' for her commissary account dropped off the cliff, and the only way she can get more money is though people writing to her so she and her minions can get their addresses and bombard them with pleas to buy her idiotic Survivor t shirts, art work tracings and just 'send whatever you can to help your golden girl'.

I have no proof of this but I'd bet my own bottom dollar, she's a scam artist and her few supporters are likely being bled dry. Wonder what her supporters are going without so they can keep her in Twinkies? I saw one blurb on the net saying that she was keeping a list of all those who write her, yes, I'm quite sure of that, one for those who hate her and one for those they can suck money out of.

Just moo.

I'm totally confused over the whole thing. lol

Here's my confusion:
ME dated 9/12/13:
--
It appearing that State’s Motion entitled “Objection to Motion to Preclude” was erroneously filed electronically on September 11, 2013 and docketed September 12, 2013. Therefore, IT IS ORDERED directing that the Clerk of the Court remove the above mentioned document from the e-filing system and place this document under Seal upon its retrieval, not to be opened until further Order of the Court.
---

So the defense filed a motion to preclude Dr. Karp's testimony or using her report or whatever (can't find anything except the nunc pro tunc motion), the State filed an objection to that motion to preclude, they yanked the State's motion from the docket and sealed it for some reason ('erroneously filed electronically'). I suppose in one of the hearing that are actually held we'll get to hear who's objecting to what, I guess.

Is it my imagination, or do female names tend to be trendier than male names?

Names like Gladys, Doris, Agnes, Delores and even Barbara were from my mother's generation. You hardly hear them any more.

Of course, this generation of kids right now don't seem to have any traditional names.

I was going to add Mabel, but I hear Bruce Willis named his new baby daughter Mabel...

Anyone want to share their first name?

I'd like to introduce myself. My name is Sharon :) Mom always called me Shari as I so loved Shari Lewis as a young child
Hope Lambie is sleeping because I think the mods call this "inviting" and they consider it a no no here :panic:.

But before we're caught....my name is Sue....how do you do :floorlaugh:.
My name is Audrey, which is not a popular name and I did feel awkward about it when I was growing up. I don't any more and think of Audrey Hepburn, who was the epitome of charm, beauty and grace.

Oddly enough, when I was an exchange student in British Columbia, there were three Audreys in my graduating class.

:seeya: Hi Shari, Sue and Audrey!!
My name is Ligita, which is Latvian; my parents escaped from there during WWII - Thank God!!!

This week I was looking up names and came across this:
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
Sometimes we try to live up to our names. Sometimes we try to run away from them. But either way — and for all the options in between — your name is a crucial factor in developing your sense of self, and thus helps propel you forward on various paths of life and career...
http://news.yahoo.com/names-shape-identity-113000386.html

They were aware from previous studies that the "more common names are regarded as generally more attractive, and they connote more favorable stereotypes. In contrast, the rare and unusual names are deemed less socially attractive and they connote negative stereotypes" (Harari and McDavid).

This is a good website for the top baby names of various years:

http://www.ssa.gov/oact/babynames/#ht=1

Thanks for posting this! I ALWAYS knew when the teacher got to my name for roll call!! :floorlaugh:
Oh, and my name means "flowing music"!

Who was your favorite actor to play James Bond?

Like others said - Sean Connery - for sure!!

and Lambchop ?? what's with the "Thanks" button?? Getting a little popup that has an exclamation point with a yield sign - ?? what's up with that?? :fence:

Just want to say that I read Exposed: The Secret Life of Jodi Arias and found it well-written and a worthwhile read for anyone who has followed the case. The best thing of all is gleaning Jane Velez-Mitchell's observations on the case without the interrupting, screaming, and shouting that she does on her HLN show :D

i think they would love to keep her off the stand, i'm just not sure how they are going to get her whole "abuse" narrative on if they don't put her on the stand
