1902 Sears Catalog.

They sold everything! Farm equipment, horse and carriage buggies, to every little every day need. I wish you could all see it. All black and what etchings, perfectly done, with typed words and prices.

A powder jar (for makeup) was 5 cents, an entire suit (wool or line) from $1.47 to $4.50, good leather shoes 55 cents, cashmere or wool overcoats (long) $1.75 to $4.50, horse buggies $19.95, beautiful wood stoves up to $20.95 - starting as low as $4.50, stationary in boxes from 40 cents to 75 cents, the biggest eye opener was guns from $4.50 up to $80.00. Beautiful pocket watches and necklace watches...So much in there. There are 1162 pages with a few introduction pages and how to place an order. You could build a Sears house if needed. Literally every tiny thing needed is in there.

All the items were lovely, well the ones that I knew what they were. The farm equipment and parts I just skipped over. I like that things used to be made to be pleasing to look at at in addition to necessary.

Morning merc :seeya:

I really like the Sears mail order house kits that were sold starting 1908 in a separate catalog.

This website has some info on the houses with links to images of the houses:

http://www.arts-crafts.com/archive/sears-roebuck.shtml

And this website has the original pages from the catalog, floor plans, and interiors. They also have photos of some of the houses that are still standing.:

http://www.searshomes.org/index.php/tag/sears-homes-in-oklahoma/

I have this website bookmarked- Hooked On Houses- that show TV/Movie houses. Love this website and seeing all the houses (some real, some not) from movies and TV.

I woke up this morning to lots of snow- almost a foot (and still snowing) and 12 degrees :coldout:

(remind me in the summer when I start to complain about the heat and please tell me to be quiet :silenced:).

The faucet had just a trickle of water- took about 5 minutes for the water to run normally.

I hope this storm passes quickly :sheesh:
I wish Canada would keep their weather to themselves :giggle:

:snowball:

Just popping in to say 'howdy' . Hope everyone has a nice day. Cold and dreary here - I guess a good day to be at work.

OK.
Think we had enough of that white stuff :scared:
Still snowing and The Queen is having a hard time navigating herself when she has to go out (poor little thing).

Someone make the snow stop. :stop:
---------------------------------------------

It Was So Snowy that Hitchhikers were holding up pictures of thumbs!

Roosters were rushing into Kentucky Fried Chicken and begging to use the pressure cooker!

When I dialed 911, a recorded message said to phone back in the spring!

The optician was giving away free snow scrapers with every new pair of eyeglasses!

Kids were using a new excuse to stay up late: "But Mom, my pajamas haven't thawed out yet!"

Richard Simmons started wearing pants!

A streaker froze in mid-streak! The town council just stuck a plaque on him and pretended he was a Greek statue until spring.

UN weapons inspectors suddenly decided that chemical weapons might be hidden in Hawaii!

Pickpockets were sticking their hands in strangers' pockets just to keep them warm!

The squirrels in the park were throwing themselves at an electric fence!

My Dad was wearing golfing gloves on both hands!

The dogs were wearing cats!

Starbucks was serving coffee on a stick!

People with traffic tickets would plead guilty and beg for the electric chair!

Terrorists started to stockpile weapons-grade hot chocolate!

Levi Strauss started manufacturing electric jeans!

The rats were bribing the alley cats for a snuggle.

We had to chop up the piano for firewood - but we only got two chords.

We had to carry around hammers and chisels so we could get out of our parkas!

When we milked the cows, we got ice cream!

When we milked the brown cows - we got chocolate ice cream!

Words froze in the air. If you wanted to hear what someone said, you had to grab a handful of sentences and take them in by the fire!

The dogs had to put jumper cables on the rabbits - just to get them running!

Playboy magazine stopped publishing because no women would take their clothes off.

We pulled everything out of the freezer and huddled inside it to warm up!

The Husky Association was making emergency service calls to get the dog teams started! When we parked the sled, we either had to plug in the dogs - or keep them running in place!

New England Home

My husband and I purchased an old home in Northern New York State from

two elderly sisters. Winter was fast approaching and the years first snow

came early and I was concerned about the house's lack of insulation. "If they

could live here all those years, so can we!" my husband confidently declared.

One November night the temperature plunged to below zero, and we woke

up to find interior walls covered with frost. My husband called the sisters to

ask how they had kept the house warm. After a rather brief conversation, he

hung up. "For the past 30 years," he muttered, "they've gone to Florida for

the winter."
---------------------------------------

Cold Winter

The Indians asked their Chief in Autumn if the Winter was going to be cold or

not. Not really knowing an answer, the chief replies that the Winter was going

to be cold with lots of snow and that the members of the village were to

collect wood to be prepared. Being a good leader, he then went to the next

phone booth and called the National Weather Service and asked, "Is this

winter to be cold?" The man on the phone responded, "This Winter is going to

be quite cold indeed." So the Chief went back to speed up his people to

collect even more wood to be prepared. A week later he called the National

Weather Service again, "Is it going to be a very cold winter?" "Yes", the man

replied, "it's going to be a very cold Winter." So the Chief goes back to his

people and orders them to go and find every scrap of wood they can find.

Two weeks later he calls the National Weather Service again: "Are you

absolutely sure that the Winter is going to be very cold?" "Absolutely," the

man replies, "the Indians are collecting wood like crazy!"

Thanks for the firework show. :seeya:
Bet you're getting excited about moving to Riga this year.

Yes I am!! :skip: But the Huz, not so much, YET!! :floorlaugh:

Someone asked (sorry, don't recall) about the trial to re-start - there is a hearing tomorrow, Friday, Jan. 3rd - about something!! LOL! Hope someone can update on 'what' happens!!

While I was watching the Twilight Zone today, I happened to flip the channel to BBC and The Tudors was on. (The Twilight Zone was showing the episode of the ventriloquist's dummy and I don't like the looks of the dummy- he scares me. ).
I just love anything about King Henry VIII and allllllll his wives. :scared:
Anyone else watch this when it was on years ago? I never watched it when it first aired, but when BBC aired it a couple of years ago, I fell in love with the program.
I don't know what the attraction he had to some of his wives. Most looked kind of dowdy - but then again, look at him :floorlaugh:
Many it was just the painters?

Take a look for yourself:

I LOVE THIS SHOW!!!
I watched some of the BBC marathon also.
I did not watch it when it actually aired, but a couple years ago saw it Showtime OnDemand and actually wasted about 4 straight days watching a marathon of all the seasons.

I even tried to get the theme song as my ringtone but my carrier does not have it (I may just make my own). I want to get the BluRays, but they cost a couple hundred for the bundle, so it is one of those purchases that will wait until I have some toss away money. Plus the price will go down with time, as the BluRays are pretty new still (Tudors were just released on BluRay recently).
I was so excited when I saw that Natalie Dormer was going to be on Game of Thrones, how good was she as Anne Boleyn?

OK I need to stop, I could gush over this show for pages and pages....

Belated Happy 2014 everyone!

BBM She made an excellent Anne Boleyn ( but now I don't like her- :floorlaugh:- stupid, I know, but I can't seem to not see her as Anne Boleyn :floorlaugh:).

She's good in Game Of Thrones (as another soon-to-be queen - marrying the awful Jeffrey- is that his name?). Unfortunately, I have discontinued all my "special" channels and won't be able to watch GOT anymore.

It is unbearable here Ricki. Current temp of 31 but with the windchill it feels like 20.

BRRRRRRR.

Stay warm!!

The snow has arrived here and the streets are now getting covered. We are due to get 3-5" according to the weather map. When did they start naming winter storms? OMG the weather channel says arctic air coming next week. I bet we get more snow than forecast. Happened last time they predicted 3-5". We ended up with more like 8". Hope you all stay warm!

You ain't kidding!
Our low tonight is 1 degree, with wind chills making it worse. We have had about 10 inches of snow in less than 24 hours and it is still going.

To top it all off I just looked at our forecast, Monday 6 is the high and -5 is the low!! The next day high of 2 and low of 2...what the heyho?!?!

Not been cold like this is lower Michigan in many years, I have gotten too old to deal with this carp.

It's 17...feels like 10. That's what the weather says. Tomorrow much worse.
15 to -7 and windy. Snow hasn't picked up yet. I don't like this. Why do I live here?

You stay warm too.

Ricki, is this your house? Beautiful mantel, just beautifully decorated.

Not my house, but hubby can build that mantel. He has for my daughter and a few customers.

Still snowing- about 1 1/2 feet, so far and 8 degrees.

Hope the pipes don't freeze. :scared:

I need my hot water to take my showers or I'll smell like the King Henry VIII gang

And- the most horrible thing is- I only have 2 packs of cigarettes :scared: (will last about 4 days). :scared: :scared: :scared:
I'll be a raving maniac then. :floorlaugh:

And why do I live here, Ricki? We need to move somewhere where there is no snow- maybe Belize. :floorlaugh:

Wherever it is warm, safe and quiet, oh yeah, and cheap.
