Weather is finally starting to "stabilize" here in Iowa. Normal temps through the week then snow/sleet mix Friday night.

Ok my friends. I posted my first thread in the Pet Corner. I would appreciate any input you have! I need names for 2 foals and I want to use the last names that begin with B and C. All explained in the thread. I want to honor someone who has served our country by naming the foals after them. Please give me your input!

It is a balmy 27.3 degrees here in the Mid Atlantic at the moment. And it will be 60 by Saturday. What a roller coaster of weather. Somebody on here had posted the Farmer's Almanac predictions and. I think they are correct. We have seen more snow by January 2 than we have all winter in past years.

YoNo, the jokes had me chuckling. And thanks for the Frasier alert. It is a wonderful way to relax before bed. Hope you all are well.

Hey guys, hope everyone's doing well. So did everyone ring in the New Year with a big bang ? :fireworks2: :cheers: to all my friends here ! Wow, 2014 already, and still no sentence for the evil murderer, JA. Well, it will come and in the meantime she thankfully is in :jail: where she belongs. So, in the meantime while awaiting her sentence and when I have the time, I make a point of doing things that I know that the evil bad seed CMJA has lost her freedom to do. Which is, well, many, many things.
Just think guys, of all the things we can do, that the killer has no freedom to do, and hopefully never, ever will . :woohoo:

I wonder if when she was planning the murder of Travis, if it ever occurred to her, the things she would never get to do again, for the rest of her life. So many things that most of us take for granted, but still have the freedom to do because we choose not to murder someone in cold blood.

Just think:

She can't have a plate of good TexMex with a cold Margarita on the rocks,
or a big hot, juicy WhataBurger with a side of onion rings and a chocolate malt.... Shhhh, I'm kind of on a diet, can ya'll tell ? :floorlaugh:

That's not all though,

She can't go shopping.
She can't go to the mountains
She can't go to the beach
She can't take a trip to one of the 1000 places she wanted to see before she died. :skip:
And, most importantly, she can never have or raise a family of her own.

She's a jail bird, that's all she'll know, freedom lost, for the rest of her life.

It's beyond tragic that she deprived Travis of all of these things on this earth, yet, in heaven, who knows. But in turn, she deprived herself of all these things as well, though that price is still not enough to pay for the evil deed of taking his life in the manner in which she did. More payment to come later though, with each passing day, and week, and year she spends in prison.

I wonder if she still thinks it was worth it.

Oh, btw, one of my favorite past times of late has been watching old movies, something else the incarcerated Killer can't do, such as those on TCM, as well as the last couple nights we watched "The Shining" and "The Blair Witch Project" Woooooooo :ghost: :scared:

Also, still watching old Twilight Zone episodes. There are so many, I couldn't believe we have found several we had never even seen before. There is also one that I have been looking for and racking my brain to remember it but haven't found it on television in a long, long time. I did find it on YouTube though.
For some reason, this particular episode is rarely aired, less than any others I've seen, but definitely one of the best, imo. The title, An Occurence at Owl Creek Bridge. If you haven't seen this one, it's definitely worth watching. :seeya:

I'm with you about old movies on TCM- I love them. Old movies, to me, are so much more rewarding than some/most new movies that are being made. There was more of an air of mystery to life and love in the old movies. Now, everything, sort of, hangs out- especially the "love" part.
Women in the classic movies always looked glamorous- men so handsome. Now- the women wear such clinging, revealing apparel with everything hanging out ( and butts-:facepalm and the language- :scared: , IMO, makes them look not as attractive and there's no mystery. I think it's better to "wonder" sometimes, than to actually know, if you know what I mean. It's more romantic, IMO. Morals were important back then, too. There was always some sort of moral to the old movies :angel:. I know, I live in la-la land. :floorlaugh:

I'm watching Bette Davis (my all time favorite actress) and Henry Fonda right now on TCM- That Certain Woman. Lots of morals in this movie :floorlaugh:

Funny story, well to me. A GF and I drove to Texas many years ago to see boys, of course. We had never seen or been to a Whataburger. Once we get there, settled in, next day (hangovers or still flying) we all go to Whataburger for brunch. The names of the food were hilarious. She and I couldn't order for laughing so hard. Whataburger is a burger, whatamilk is milk, justacatch is a fish sandwich, and on it goes. We were laughing so hard the manager came out and asked if something was wrong. I'm with you YorN, I watch TCM more than anything now, recently some of Joan Crawford's early movies, I had no idea she actually did silent films. I'm always saying I was born in the wrong era. And if I'm not watching, will have it on in the back ground when I'm busy around the house because I love the sound of the old movies, there's just something magical and soothing about them. And the music, love that too.

Which reminds me, does anyone remember the old TV series Ozzie and Harriet? Well, I just learned something new when I was listening to XM 40's on 4, that is, that Ozzie was a band leader. I always just thought of him as Ozzie from the TV show Anyway, I thought that was so cool. :dance:

Okay, we need a learn Latvian video. I miss my Latvian friend, just found out he is in an assisted living place, don't know if I should pop in sometime, or if that would embarrass him. He has had several strokes over the last few years.

I see Whataburger has finally updated it's menu, lol. They were so cool b/c they stayed in the '50's for so many years, guess they had to catch up. I wanna' burger too. Finally found some chocolate covered cherries, saving them for the weekend. Just ate a Dollar Tree bag of pork rinds 'cause I saw something on t.v. while sleeping/not sleeping that they are good for you, which they are not, and I like them. Whatadinner!

How are those in the snow? Staying safe and warm? Has Daisy checked in lately?

I feel so sorry for her family, it must be so painful for them, so hard to come to terms, or just anything.

Old movies, I love, love, love! The glamour, the romance, the seduction of it all! Black and white, or, even the great movies in Technicolor. You just new a movie in Technicolor would be good. I looked up Technicolor and it is very fascinating, pains taking, and expensive!

I'm going to watch the Twilight Zone posted and try to find a very good old movie (free) on the internet this weekend.

Where is Tex with our recipes and tantalizing food? Pork rinds are not it, but could be if fried fresh, but I'm not doing that. :crazy:

Joan Crawford- never liked her, but she was good in Mildred Pierce.
Although I thought she was a good actress, there's just something about her that was "too hard"- maybe her face? her makeup- those eyebrows? the shoulder-pads :facepalm: something.

Did you ever look up some of the costume designers for the classic stars? Very interesting how they each knew what clothes looked best for the stars bodies. How glamorous.

It's the taste. It may be the way they process it. No chemicals. It taste like it's suppose to. Almost brings you back to your childhood when things did taste differently. LOL

I remember why I don't like Joan Crawford.
I read her daughter, Christina's book- Mommy Dearest when it first came out in the late '70's. I did think Christina shouldn't have written it because it really made her mother look like a uncaring mother and also, family matters are personal and shouldn't be aired for the whole world to see (you know- dirty linen). IMO. It was a scathing book.
