I wish they would put the camera back on Mom.

I'm thinking the view changed because someone may be in there helping her.

I'm worried. Maybe the vet came? I saw the entire video of Kiko's birth. Damn!

This delivery has been very different from the first. I can't imagine they deliberately turned the camera away unless there is a problem. Praying this baby will be healthy. :prayer:

It's possible they don't want the camera on the calf when it falls. They may get all sorts of phone calls in a panic. JMO

This is quite distressing.

I hope they turn back as soon as the calf is born. :please:

I think they had to help the baby out - maybe a vet had to sedate Autumn?

I hope everything is OK, Walter sure is pacing around.

Will they update the site somehow?

I couldn't tell for sure if those were front or back feet. Baby should be born front feet first.

When a giraffe baby, called a calf, is born, it comes into the world front feet first, followed by the head, neck, and shoulders. Its entry is like a slow-motion swan dive! Because the umbilical cord is only about 3 feet (1 meter) long, it breaks midway through the birth, allowing the newborn to drop to the ground. The fall and the landing don't hurt the calf, but they do cause it to take a big breath. The calf can stand up and walk after about an hour and within a week, it starts to sample vegetation. Sometimes the mother leaves the calf alone for most of the day. The youngster sits quietly until she returns. -

I thought they were back feet - to me it looked like hind back end was trying to push through?

I am not sure?

I just hope everything is fine - and they will let us know as soon as they can!

Prayers for Autumn and her new baby - :praying:

Walter has an ear infection that doesn't appear to be getting better.

me too.

Supposedly , Walter hits his head against his body like that because he has had an ear infection , hard to treat in giraffes but he is getting care for it

  • #398
It must be hard to stand on a step ladder and give ear drops.

  • #399
I would think the vet was checking Autumn daily to make sure everything was going well.
