But...Nurmi being present for the interviews was a Nurmi request, not a JA motion. Had JA requested it and it been denied it might be a little more worrisome.

IDK...I'm only guessing since AZ does things in its own way and in its own time.

So the woman that purchased Travis' home will be forced to have multiple strangers enter and view her entire house? I feel sorry for her and her family too.

I hope....that she is able to afford her own lawyer to be there when the investigator shows up. I hope also that ID and all paper work is shown to home owner and it is a legal license. Possibly that the JM will have a rep there?

I don't trust this person to stay in one area or not tamper with information or items. Much like a Florida case that had happen to it.

JMO

I wonder if anyone from defense is allowed to be there, or is it just JM and witness?

Yes, this time the judge has recourse. But what all about the foot stomping episodes yet to come? JSS may have to acclimate herself to ruling on the spot (today was a good start!) rather than scheduling a future hearing date for each and every tantrum. JMO.

I feel your pain. ;). But, notice that JSS is not budging on timeframe. No more delays. That's as firm as she's ever been in this marathon travesty.

I bet that at this point JSS is allowing the butcher ample opportunity to demonstrate she's incapable of representing herself. Remember, JSS can yank away that pro se any ole time. Sooner rather then later if today is any indication.

I'm thinking JA will realize she is in over her head and give control back to her attorneys. If that happens, then this is 1 issue that Nurmi can bring up and say that because the judge denied his request to make sure the schedule supported him being at the interviews, that he could not be present and therefore, he now has to schedule those same interviews all over again. Because he was not there.

Just more possible delays and more possible confusion that could have been avoided if this ruling was agreed to.

This is 1 request I would have agreed to if I was the judge. We keep hearing about wanting to avoid any possible appeal issues and I think this would be a valid request to help prevent issues down the line.

This judge sometimes floors me.
JMO she lets JA get away with things that I think could have been legally prevented, and then something like this which I see as a valid request that perhaps should have been allowed to avoid any future potential problems.

Oh well. I hope the judge knows best. LOL

One other thing. I take this as a huge RED FLAG that JA has had discussions with her lawyers that she is ready to give them control at the first opportunity as soon as things start to go wrong for her.

I don't see that red flag. I see Nurmi trying to do the right thing by attending. He's gotta know the huge potential for disaster here.

Seems to me someone had to object to Nurmi's request (either the defendant herself or JM) for the judge to rule against it.

I think you misinterpreted. The RED FLAG part had nothing to do with Nurmis actual request and I agree he is doing the right thing which is why I wish the judge would have agreed to what I think is a valid request.

The RED FLAG part is a SIGN to me that JA and her lawywers have already talked about her turning over control to them. I think it will happen as soon as she realizes she cant handle it and things start to go wrong. Nurmis request shows this to me as a sign or red flag they had discussions already.

Maybe if Jodi announces today that she no longer wants to act as her own attorney then Nurmi could ask to have the witness interviews rescheduled. But as long as she's going pro se, it's all on her. I'm not a lawyer, so I don't really know. I just can't see things be scheduled in case some hypothetical happens.

I understood what you were saying...just disagree that Nurmu's request indicated apriori conversations about her dropping self rep.

I really think she's delusional, that she sees herself as entirely capable of taking on JM. I'm sure Nurmi and Wills have tried to discuss contingencies about transfer back to counsel with her. Doesn't mean she listened.

I apologize Hope4more that I may have been the one who misinterpreted your post. If you dont think Nurmi and JA already talked about her turning over control and that is why his request was submitted.

I know my posts can be confusing...LOL

See, I think the reason he asked to be present is I think both JA and Nurmi have already talked that she will relinquish over to him as soon as she sees the 1st sign that she is not doing well.

Gotcha. Thanks.

When I re-read everything, I realized it was me who misinterpreted things. LOL

This case will be the death of me yet. LOL Maybe my family can file a civil suit against JA for my death. LOL

Well, Hatfield, your family can find a lot of witnesses on WS who will back up the assertion that this case is enough to kill anybody! Except Jodi, apparently.

Thanks to everyone who posted all the updates from today. It is greatly appreciated.

Its all good. Maybe we can all file a class action civil suit against her for pain and suffering. ;)

You make sense!

The law does not always do that.

I wonder if Nurmi had a right to be there without JA requesting it instead of him. She is in charge of this phase, not Nurmi. He may be in charge at some point and yes there could be more delays because of this issue but I think delays could happen just as easily if JSS grants Nurmi's requests without JA's input.

But JSS could have just asked JA if she objected, I suppose. She didn't. I have to say, though, what appears to be a more decisive, less wishy-washy JSS is refreshing.

ETA: HATFIELD, I assume you realize I was responding to your post on the previous page. I meant to quote your post but somehow....didn't.

Didn't JSS rule at the time she granted JA's request to represent herself that if she changed her mind at any point there would be no delays for the purpose of allowing counsel to get up to speed?

If she follows through on that there should not be any redo of an interview...they might get a reschedule if it has not already happened but maybe not even that.

From CBS5:

Convicted murderer Jodi Arias, recently granted the opportunity to represent herself in the penalty phase of her trial, will appear before a Maricopa County Superior Court judge and attorneys from both sides on Sept. 15 to discuss how her trial will move forward.

Ebola patient escapes Liberia quarantine, chased in market

"The man in the red shirt has Ebola and has just escaped quarantine in Monrovia. He's searching for food and armed with a stick, trying to avoid medical staff who are in pursuit. The man has just escaped Monrovia's Elwa hospital, which is overcrowded and struggling to provide Ebola patients with food and water. Locals are both sympathetic and frustrated."

World 'losing battle' to contain Ebola

"International medical agency Medecins sans Frontieres said Tuesday the world was "losing the battle" to contain Ebola as the United Nations warned of severe food shortages in the hardest-hit countries.

MSF told a UN briefing in New York that world leaders were failing to address the epidemic and called for an urgent global biological disaster response to get aid and personnel to west Africa.

"Six months into the worst Ebola epidemic in history, the world is losing the battle to contain it. Leaders are failing to come to grips with this transnational threat," said MSF international president Joanne Liu.

"The (World Health Organization) announcement on August 8 that the epidemic constituted a 'public health emergency of international concern' has not led to decisive action, and states have essentially joined a global coalition of

inaction."..."

If JA continues to ignore or be ignorant of the rules/laws, then I think JSS will have no choice other than to replace her with (previous) counsel. And yes, JSS warned there would be no do-overs or delays. As far as his right to be there, the only person I see in Code of Criminal Procedures that is allowed to attend state depositions of her witnesses is the defendant, and that might only be in certain circumstances - might be why JSS said they would take place either at the jail or the courthouse. But if I missed her right to have her attorney there, she would be because she's it.
