Changes Surround 9/11 Anniversary Commemoration

"...The memorial plaza will be closed to the public for most of the day and only available to family members. It will reopen at 6 p.m., at which point thousands of New Yorkers are expected to mark the anniversary at the twin reflecting pools where the towers once stood...."

Sept. 11, 2014: Shanksville, Pa., 13 years after 9/11, and so much has changed

"It's been 13 long years since United Flight 93 nose-dived into a former strip mining field in a forgotten spot of Somerset County. So much has changed since then.

The forgotten field is now a solemn place of remembrance for the 40 heroes aboard the hijacked flight, believed headed for Washington,D.C., in what would have been the fourth terrorist's strike on Sept. 11, 2001...."

Thank you LinTx, MeeBee, cindymac, for all the info. I forgot totally about the cover page and the court stamp being on that page. Did find one handwritten document....it was a lot neater writing then this one. She may have been given a short time to have a pen and paper in her hand, to write this and submit it. I would assume that someone from her team had to meet with her to get this filed right away.

I just don't trust her one bit. Thanks again...

I do seem to recall that other handwritten things from JA seemed neater than this one. The part in the middle that says "Motion to Relinquish" is in capital letters while the rest is in small letters. It seems that middle part may have been written by a 2nd person too. And it seems she would have signed it with script. I wonder if someone else wrote this for her. And maybe even 2 people writing it.

I hope this isnt a dubious attempt to have something important in her records that she could always come back to on appeal and say that she never signed a critical document or something. The court records clerks need to watch over her like a hawk with this case and make sure all T's are dotted.

Good morning everyone. It's raining cats and dogs and rabbits here this morning! Flooding in town. Even saw a deer awhile ago, of course she wasn't floating yet. :)
Hope everyone's having a good day so far.

I will look....I am not a real good document detective....but you gave me some info.

The missing court stamp just hit me...it is so big ...

Thanks

The court docs show that her letter was submitted by her attorneys, Nurmi and Wilmott and it is official and date stamped. I think the media just wants to show that JA actually asked for this herself.

Hi! I was taking a beauty rest when I heard the news on HLN.. Maybe she found out she couldn't be
her own witness. I love the letter from Arpaio :happydance: Something caused it.

Letter from Arpaio? Can you direct me to it? Your post makes me curious. Thanks!

Sorry MeeBee, didn't mean to 'take over'...I thought you had left the thread and had my copy handy.

No I was just kidding. I'm just a mess right now and I posted the wrong letter...wow. My brain.

ETA: now I'm trying to delete it and it just made the letter bigger lol.

...Not everyone bought her DV “tale of woe” because of facts found in court transcripts and her “widely contradictory accounts” of the murder....

... When reading Clubine's blog, I noticed that Clubine wrote a very sympathetic article on JA, and in it she mentions ALV who she describes as “Alyce is an incredible woman who was one of the few people who believed my side of the story during my trial and continued to stand by me the entire 26 years I was incarcerated”....

I hope you don't mind me cherry picking a couple short bits from your detailed and interesting post. And this really isn't so much of a response to you specifically, just a general (and long winded, sorry) observation about aspects of the current state of our legal system, the direction it's heading, and the implications for society as a whole.

People (not just women) are horrifically abused sometimes. It happens. It needs to stop. More often than not, the abuser is male. When liars like JA succeed (in this case, miraculously) in convincing anybody that they were abused by a man, particularly when they convince people who write books, produce movies, and/or go on public speaking tours, it does irreparable damage to ongoing legitimate efforts to support victims (again, not just women) and prosecute abusers (again, typically male).

So now we find ourselves with a burgeoning Mens' Movement (not sure what else to call it), which (among other things) is working hard to spread the idea that accusations of abuse are usually lies, that our courts have an anti-male bias, that accusers are just angry or jealous or spiteful or attention-seeking or whatever else they might be -- and the one thing they are NOT is "abused." If there has been some sort of physical altercation, the victim caused it, is blowing it all way out of proportion, and is blaming the so-called "abuser" because, well, women are just vindictive like that, and anyway they're all hormonal and don't even know what they're talking about most of the time.

And if DV accusations are more often than not exaggerated, misrepresented, or completely false.... then surprise! The same arguments are made about accusations of rape. And just look at where that is getting us. Over the past 25 years or so, since the time I started college, I've had six friends (all women) tell me they were raped. I have no idea how many others there might be who just haven't told me. None of my friends reported it, because either: it was date rape and they didn't think anybody would believe them (without blaming them); because the rapist was their boss and they needed the job; or because they and the rapist were part of the same social circle, he was more popular, and she didn't want to cause trouble or lose friends by lying about being raped, which she figured is what everyone would think.

Do women ever lie about rape? Yes. Do they lie about abuse? Obviously. What should we as a society do about it? I have no idea. A good start would be to stop giving the "men's movement" groups excuses (oh heck, I guess I also have to say "legitimate reasons") to exist. Then give delusional (mostly) white (mostly) guy government/media types... I don't know, a stern talking-to? That gets us nowhere. What we absolutely need to stop doing is making people like Jodi "If My Lips Are Moving, I'm Lying" Arias into martyrs, media darlings, and (God help us) spokespeople.

How do we know for sure who's lying and who's telling the truth? Beats me. (No pun intended.)

I'll get off my soapbox now.

Perfect response to this request albeit a little late.

Oh, I think Sheriff Joe purposely took his time replying. An unsubtle way of demonstrating that he is in charge and that what the "inmate" wants is irrelevant.

I LOVE the last paragraph!!! :D

Just checking to see if there is a foal yet. My MIL has Bladder CA and is not doing well. It has metasticized to her liver and now spine. She does not have Internet or cable as she lives in a secluded area on the Sassafras River in Maryland. I am going to have to go down and stay with her as she lives alone. This is very very difficult to watch. She had no symptoms other than what was thought to be a UTI.

I feel so badly for my DH and his brother. My MIL has so many friends and was so active up until the chemo started in June. Since then, she has been on a roller coaster of feeling sick. She was admitted to the ICU for electrolyte imbalance inconsistent with life and pulled through. My DH is undeniably her favorite as he looks just like her and she thinks he is the perfect child. And there is nothing he can do to save his mom.

My heart goes out to all of you who have dealt with Cancer of a loved one. This is very hard to watch.

It is hard, I know. My father died from brain cancer 6 years ago. In less than a year after his ( shocking) diagnosis he went from being a very healthy, active, productive man to not being able to speak or walk, to not being able to function at all. He died less than 9 months after diagnosis.

Its horrible to watch and feel helpless. The only consolation to be found is spending as much time together as possible, even when that's difficult. Hugs to you all!!

MOO is that Sheriff Joe did not intend to respond to the letter at all. I think he decided to when JA was representing herself and went into court declaring cameras cause her too much damage. The desire to jab the great Arias was just too irresistible for Sheriff Joe.

Hugs and prayers to you and your family Zuri. I hope your MIL is not in too much pain. I know that you will be such a comfort to her.

Zuri I will pray for her and for you. I have lost friends to cancer. It is quite horrible and most times there are no symptoms until the pain begins at the end. This is so sad.
