just a thought this AM (hope this is not too much to think about on a Monday morning. :thinking
Why and how did you become interested in trials/crime?
The first time I was really aware of trials was the OJ trial. It consumned me at the time (all 8 months or so of it). I remember watching it while I did my housekeeping, cooking, taking care of my son, etc. How did that man get away with murder?
The years went by and I forgot about murderers - then came Caylee Anthony. I watched that trial just like the OJ trial, but this time, I lurked on WS, also. Everyone knows the outcome of that trial and the disappointment that another murderer has been freed.
But with the missy:jail: trial, I decided to join WS and come out of lurkdom to join others in my interest in trials. I found this seemly normal- looking person that murdered Travis Alexander an enigma and I wanted to find out more. I missed the first 2 weeks of the trial and I didn't know anything about missy:jail: at the time.
My interest is mainly in the psychology of murderers and why they murder, and also justice for their victims and families. I'm also interested in the mindset of the murderers' supporters. At this time, I'm researching "remorse" in murderers. My philosophy professor said that some people are born without a conscious and I have always felt she was wrong, but now I think I may have been wrong. So far my research on remorse - wild goose chase, but still I search. :sheesh:
I have never been a victim of murder, rape, etc., nor do I personally know anyone who has been victimized.
What about you?
Hi YorN, everyone. Hope all had a good Thanksgiving

. Both of mine were good, cooked a lot, ate way too much. Time for me to get back on a diet now. :sheesh: I wish I had it in me to fast , thinking of trying drinking only protein shakes during the day even though the thought of it makes me cringe, especially while my mouth is watering looking at that plate of yummy goodies you have, YorN.
Regarding your question
"Why and how did you become interested in trials / crime ? " ... Though I've always been intrigued by that sort of thing, I think my interest in sociopathy came to full fruition with my Abnormal Psych class back in the late 80's . Then I got to thinking back on actual crimes / trials that I have followed .
1994 - 1995 - O.J. Simpson murder trial - This was my first trial, though I only watched bits and pieces.
June 1996 - Devon and Damon Routier murder - Darlie Routier stabbed her two little boys and cut her own throat and claimed it was done by an intruder. This caught my interest because it's less than a 100 miles from where I live, and because I could never wrap my mind around how a mother could do that to her own children,

, though there are some who still believe it could have been an intruder, I don't buy it. Researching this case later, in 2007, is what drew me to WS.
December 1996 - Jon Benet Ramsey, child beauty pageant queen, found murdered in her basement - the trial was not televised, so what caught my attention was this poor little girl being dressed up and made up like a hussy, ( sorry if this offends anyone but that's how I see it ) , which obviously made her the perfect target for a sex predator . I couldn't believe how any child's mother could treat them that way and can't believe these "pageants" are even allowed. It is child abuse, IMO . That aside, I'm still not sure it wasn't an accident covered up by the parents. That's sick too, even if it was done by JB's brother, IMO.... but then that whole family was sick which I won't go into.
2005 -Natalee Holloway disappearance in Aruba - obviously a victim of the
psycho / sociopath Joran Van DerSloot . At least he's paying his dues now. This is another case of "can't wrap my mind around" how a mother would let her 18 y/o daughter go on a trip to Aruba with a bunch of other 18 y/o's with only a couple of adult chaperones. :gaah:
2011 -
Casey Anthony murder trial - this was my first trial to become completely immersed in, watched the whole thing. My DH thought I was crazy, lol.
August 2011 - Robyn Gardner disappearance in Aruba - Aruba again, and again another
psycho / sociopath, Gary Giordano, was responsible, at least IMO. It was this case that brought me back to WS after being away a few years.
Then this, the JA trial. Though I had only heard bits and pieces about Travis' murder, I didn't pay that much attention or get really involved until the actual trial. This was my first trial to follow here on WS.
Thanks for the thought provoking topic, YorN. :seeya:
