I framed this photo for my son for his birthday--took it when I visited him in AK last summer!

I had to take many to get it, but this was at Auke Bay Harbor, just outside of Juneau. Loads of eagles woke us in the morning. My son lived on the shore of the harbor and hadn't paid close attention to the bird noises until I pointed them out. He still lives in the area but not right on the water. $$$$

Many times in movies, producers dub in a convenient red-tailed hawk noise for an eagle--that Peee-eew! noise. Eagles actually don't sound quite that regal. They sound comical. The eagle is holding a piece of fish. This was in August, and the salmon were still coming to the shores/rivers.

Still reeling from a 4.7 earthquake right up the road from me in Sedona. No injuries or damage that I can tell but that was a wild ride! I thought my brother had fallen out of bed ! lol

just a thought this AM (hope this is not too much to think about on a Monday morning.)

Why and how did you become interested in trials/crime?

The first time I was really aware of trials was the OJ trial. It consumned me at the time (all 8 months or so of it). I remember watching it while I did my housekeeping, cooking, taking care of my son, etc. How did that man get away with murder? :(

The years went by and I forgot about murderers - then came Caylee Anthony. I watched that trial just like the OJ trial, but this time, I lurked on WS, also. Everyone knows the outcome of that trial and the disappointment that another murderer has been freed. :(

But with the missy:jail: trial, I decided to join WS and come out of lurkdom to join others in my interest in trials. I found this seemly normal- looking person that murdered Travis Alexander an enigma and I wanted to find out more. I missed the first 2 weeks of the trial and I didn't know anything about missy:jail: at the time.

My interest is mainly in the psychology of murderers and why they murder, and also justice for their victims and families. I'm also interested in the mindset of the murderers' supporters. At this time, I'm researching "remorse" in murderers. My philosophy professor said that some people are born without a conscious and I have always felt she was wrong, but now I think I may have been wrong. So far my research on remorse - wild goose chase, but still I search. :sheesh:

I have never been a victim of murder, rape, etc., nor do I personally know anyone who has been victimized.

What about you?

Hey everyone, Good morning Why is it so easy to get used to having a houseful of family and friends and then so hard to get used to the quiet when everyone leaves? We had kids, Grandkids, Great Grandkids, and friends of G-kids who had no family here, this year we set up "the kids" table, first time for that LOL. We had a very happy peaceful time, 5 days. And now I'm all alone and there's no court today :( Aw what to do what to do. I hope you all had a great Thanksgiving :-)

Aw, you're not alone grammie....you have your Websleuth family. :) ((HUG)) Me and the hubby are off to the doctor today; he brought home the flu and graciously shared it with me. Bleech.

My interest in high profile court cases followed the same trajectory, YESorNO. The Simpson case was bad enough, but the Anthony case just about sent me over the edge. To get away with murdering a helpless child...and then to profit from it! Beyond disgusting. During that trial is when I found Websleuths. I swore I would never become emotionally invested in another case...and then along came Arias. Ninjas! Photos! What a freak. Plus I love this community. I learn something new every day from Websleuthers! It's like going back to college; only this time I'm actually attending class. ;)

Hoping I get to start setting out a few holiday decorations today. That usually sets me in a much more festive mode.

Yes/No, it would probably take me pages to say specifically how I got interested in following crime cases. It probably started way back as a young teen who loved Perry Mason books, then graduated to true crime. It was always the "what makes them do this?", psychological interest, how-the-brain-works curiosity. Betty Broderick was my first real case to follow. When Internet usage became available to me, I followed the forum Court-TV (rarely posted). I have been hooked ever since.

I first became interested in trials with this current killer JA. My interest was different than most people's as following crimes, mine was completely personal.
I got hooked fast and I am so glad that I did.

Hope everyone has a nice day. I have to get to work.!!

Hi YorN, everyone. Hope all had a good Thanksgiving :) . Both of mine were good, cooked a lot, ate way too much. Time for me to get back on a diet now. :sheesh: I wish I had it in me to fast , thinking of trying drinking only protein shakes during the day even though the thought of it makes me cringe, especially while my mouth is watering looking at that plate of yummy goodies you have, YorN.

Regarding your question "Why and how did you become interested in trials / crime ? " ... Though I've always been intrigued by that sort of thing, I think my interest in sociopathy came to full fruition with my Abnormal Psych class back in the late 80's . Then I got to thinking back on actual crimes / trials that I have followed .

1994 - 1995 - O.J. Simpson murder trial - This was my first trial, though I only watched bits and pieces.

June 1996 - Devon and Damon Routier murder - Darlie Routier stabbed her two little boys and cut her own throat and claimed it was done by an intruder. This caught my interest because it's less than a 100 miles from where I live, and because I could never wrap my mind around how a mother could do that to her own children, :(, though there are some who still believe it could have been an intruder, I don't buy it. Researching this case later, in 2007, is what drew me to WS. :)

December 1996 - Jon Benet Ramsey, child beauty pageant queen, found murdered in her basement - the trial was not televised, so what caught my attention was this poor little girl being dressed up and made up like a hussy, ( sorry if this offends anyone but that's how I see it ) , which obviously made her the perfect target for a sex predator . I couldn't believe how any child's mother could treat them that way and can't believe these "pageants" are even allowed. It is child abuse, IMO . That aside, I'm still not sure it wasn't an accident covered up by the parents. That's sick too, even if it was done by JB's brother, IMO.... but then that whole family was sick which I won't go into.

2005 -Natalee Holloway disappearance in Aruba - obviously a victim of the psycho / sociopath Joran Van DerSloot . At least he's paying his dues now. This is another case of "can't wrap my mind around" how a mother would let her 18 y/o daughter go on a trip to Aruba with a bunch of other 18 y/o's with only a couple of adult chaperones. :gaah:

2011 - Casey Anthony murder trial - this was my first trial to become completely immersed in, watched the whole thing. My DH thought I was crazy, lol.

August 2011 - Robyn Gardner disappearance in Aruba - Aruba again, and again another psycho / sociopath, Gary Giordano, was responsible, at least IMO. It was this case that brought me back to WS after being away a few years. :)

Then this, the JA trial. Though I had only heard bits and pieces about Travis' murder, I didn't pay that much attention or get really involved until the actual trial. This was my first trial to follow here on WS. :)

Thanks for the thought provoking topic, YorN. :seeya:

I had not read this before, and found it interesting.

http://www.teamrenew.com/teamrenew-founders

I may be in a very small "camp" here, but I'm not too impressed with the Hughes', or how they have "handled" their part in this tragedy.
The words "tacky" and "opportunists" comes to the forefront.

But that's what I would expect from someone involved in MLM.

Just my opinion, y'all!

I felt that around 11:00 last night!!!! We're just West of Sedona, can see the Red Rocks from our place. Horses and dogs went all nutty! It was like a washing machine that was majorly unbalanced...........just weird!

Why and how did you become interested in trials/crime?

Hi everyone!

We had a very nice and quiet Thanksgiving!!

To answer YESorNO question - I too have read all Perry Mason books and watched it on TV; of course OJ trial - I had fallen and disclocated my shoulder, so was home from work and watched that trial on TV. My first mystery I should say was JonBenet Ramsey. Unfortunately, that didn't have a trial and is STILL a mystery (Patsy did it!!) LOL! I joined a Yahoo chat room for that case, but than switched to Tricia's other forum Forums of Justice and then found WS!!! :happydance: What a GREAT bunch of peeps!!!

I too followed the Anthony trial - what an injustice to little Caylee... but do love Florida's Sunshine Laws; we got a LOT of documents to look at! Also Natalie Holloway - good to see Joran in jail in Peru. Also Robin Gardner, Bob Bashara, and so many others that my mind is blank!

katycoolady - 4.7 is NOTHING!! I've been in at least 2 biggies - the one in 1971 - 6.7 in the San Fernando Valley (Sylmar quake) and than the Loma Prieta 1989 7.1 in the Bay Area - now THOSE were scarey!!! :hills:

We had a nice rain over the weekend and MORE coming tomorrow and Wednesday! We sure need it here!

:seeya:
