I think I'm addicted to lace cookie or Florentines, as some call them.

I was shopping at BJ's before the holiday's and had to stop dead in my tracks.

There they were!!! LACE COOKIES!!!! I couldn't believe my eyes.

Cookies I haven't seen since I bought them at the bakeries of NYC- over 40 years ago. So I bought a container for the holidays.

They are crunchy and delicious- they have a nutty, caramel flavor, with chocolate in the middle- YUM!

I was in BJ's yesterday and I bought some more- 2 more plastic container's (I'm eating one right now )

I just had to find out the origin of these cookies. I always thought the cookies were Italian, but I was wrong:

The Truth About Florentines

You just have to eat a lace cookie- you'll get addicted too! :floorlaugh:

Addicted is correct. That is the gift that I make for my neighbors every year! As many are not Christians (are from India etc) I usually spend Thanksgiving weekend making them and taking them to all my close neighbors and the card reads "Thanks for being such a great neighbor" vs Christmas gifts. And they ARE! I came to Florida for just 3 days at Christmas...and still here as grand nephew went into PICU burn unit and still in medical coma. Meanwhile, stuff at home needed to be done. My neighbors came out in force and my faucets were dripping during the 8 degrees weather, the mail picked up, other helpful neighbor stuff done too iykwim.

Anyhooooooooo, google "oatmeal lace cookies" for the recipe. The are the BEST! Warning though, you use about 1/2 teaspoon per cookie and do them on aluminum foil, so it takes a longgggggggggggggg time to rotate them all through the oven.

ETA: Mine are different from YesOrNo as mine don't have chocolate in them. Already the recipe is mostly oatmeal (be SURE to use the ONE MINUTE kind, not regular kind) and sugar and butter lol. Adding chocolate... the calories! :shame:

Hi Bernina,
whats happening on retrial thread? I haven't kept up since Friday. You have such a kind heart. Yeah, this thread doesn't have the debating so much. But I don't know what the issues are over there.

Just a lot of rehashing, random bursts of bagging on Judge Stephens (There's a method to her madness and I'm not going to fault her!) and the Arizona Judicial system (them's fighting words!). The usual but with new forum participants.
We've been there, done that the first time around, so it gets kind of frustrating reading the "what if/how come" in the investigation when that part is over.....cept the crazy computer fiasco.

For CMJA's "delicate state", she sure didn't have a problem discussing pressing issues on that 3 way call a few months back about her appellate fund. All cylinders are firing when she's handling her non-profit.

There must be a huge population of Hispanic women in Perryville that don't know Spanish or haven't taken advantage of the courses available (I think Rio Salado still offers them) and you know all the hearing impaired are incarcerated there. *Major SARCASM*

Juan must have something on "John Smith". Evidently his "nickname" must be known in the IT circles there in San Jose or Nationwide.

Holy cow! Yesterday was my 2 year "stop smoking" anniversary...........how soon I forget! Guess it has become a "non-issues", YAY!

What happened to your grand nephew?!?!?!?!

Pogen's made a Florentine cookie (my dad sold them in his stores). They were pretty good with milk, raw milk of course <----it was delivered every week, the stuff where the cream ended up at the top if you didn't shake it up!

Happy Birthday to a strong, intelligent and compassionate Sleuther extraordinaire! I hope you have a fantastic day today- at the Lake!

Bernini- congratulations on kicking the habit of smoking- that is a huge deal- something you should be very proud of. I have people in my life that I love who have never been able to do it!

It will be interesting to see what transpires tomorrow. It will be very telling.

Happy Sunday everyone- stay warm! We are getting much needed rain here in California- thank god!

Last night, the poster "Rosemary Pierce" and her son Kyle were on my mind. If you all remember, her 12 year old son was diagnosed with osteosarcoma in his humerus and he was having chemo at the Children's Hospital in Jackson, MS. If any of you know her, would you please tell her we are thinking of her and her son.

KCL got engaged and she is majorly in love with her soulmate, John David Higham. So happy for her.

Hi Bernina,

That thread is fine if you want to really delve into the trial in minutia and technicalities; some people like that and that's why they come to WS. Some people like to debate and sleuth things. When there are many people posting, sometimes the conversations can get a little heated and conversation/words can get "misunderstood", so conflicts happen. It's a normal thing, so there are no "issues" there, just a lot more people, with different opinions/ideas, IMO.

I do not like "debate" and/or competition- never have, so I tend to stay here where I'm comfortable and I know most of the posters, but that's just me.

There are many more people there posting than here. We usually have the same people posting everyday and, I think, we know each other very well because we have been together for so long, so our feeling don't normally get hurt when someone says/writes something. We know each other's mind or way of posting, so we don't get bent out of shape or have any attitudes. Occasionally, we have "new" people stopping by, just to read and some do post things- that's great- I hope they will want to stay and join us.

This thread is more laid back. It has more than just trial info. We try to keep it lite and fun- we mix other things in besides the trial. I think this thread is refreshing, especially after a hard day at "court".

:winkkiss:

Happy happy birthday at the lake! Hope and pray for speedy recovery for your nephew

You make them! I'm impressed.
Oatmeal? I'll have to look the recipe up.

Calories? Who cares. :shame:

What happened to your grand-nephew?

I had raw milk once when we first moved here from NYC.
I didn't like it. It tastes very different from milk that we buy in the store.

I like to smoke- it's my only vice (except WS, of course ) and I don't intend to stop.

Great post and very true! My communication style can be odd, it has taken me a long time to understand this about myself. I am pretty tough but I can get my feelings hurt too- especially when I am misunderstood. I had a good cry the other day because of it. Something I realized was that I read at a lot of different places and that is not necessarily a beneficial thing. I have always loved coming to read here for the humor, trivia and camaraderie but especially the intelligent and balanced thought processes. You are a very wise and learned bunch and I appreciate that.

Yes or No my neighbor, a coal miners daughter from Pennsylvania makes those Florentine cookies as well as nut rolls that were her mothers recipe. She is like a grandmother to all of the kids on our street. We always LOVE when she shares her baked good with us. I am a great cook but not a baker!

Dish has free previews this weekend of all "special" channels. :)
I'm watching The Godfather ( for the millionth time ) on Cinemax and when they showed the scene where Michael is in the restaurant, before he shoots Sollozzo and
Mc Culskey, I started to cry. Sollozzo speaks in the Calabrese dialect of Italian and that's what my parents spoke as they came from Calabria, Italy. It reminds me of my parents.
I haven't heard that dialect in so long (except when I watch The Godfather) since my parents died 20+ years ago and I miss them. I understand everything Sollozzo is saying.
(There's another scene in The Godfather part 11 where the "landlord" is speaking to Don Vito and he is also speaking in my parents dialect.)

There are so many different dialects in Italy- some I don't really understand- maybe a word/sentence here or there.

Here's more info than I'm sure you really want to know about the Calabrese dialect, but you know me:

I quit by switching to vaping.......and now I rarely vape, dropped the nic tremendously. I'm talking Camel "Humps" since about 17 years of age, and the last 10 years of "Drum" roll your own. BF still smokes but he does it outside or in HIS truck.
It's really weird how smoking doesn't bug you til you quit........and then it's all :gaah:. Smells like rotten moose butt <-----I imagine, lol!

I gave the e-cig a try and it made me cough. I don't know why. My daughter has no problem with it. Did it make you cough or did I do something wrong?

It depends on the ohms the vape is set at, you can set them to get a throat hit or a smooth hit. It also could've been a burned out wic. Try again but with a new one

It made me cough too when I tried them.

:bowdown:The "Queen" can do anything she please!!!! :bigstick: Far be it for me to suggest taking away any happy vice!!!
:whiteflag:Please no mandatory essays or "I must not...." 2000 times! :floorlaugh:

I actually "quit" during the first week of the CMJA trial, now THAT was amazing! Sitting in front of the computer, watching live streaming, without a smoke.
OMG, has this court case been going on for 2 years?!?!?! :banghead:

My daughter has been trying to get me to get one. She has been using one for the past six months. The initial cost was around 70 dollars. To maintain it weekly she says it's under 10 bucks. She fills it up with the flavors. I will try it again when I see her and ask her about the smooth hit as it did hit my throat when I tried hers. Cough
