Thank you very much for these interesting infos about vaping, Bernina (post 469).
I'll read more in this forum-link you've sent me.

January 10 is a day you're certainly very proud of. Congratulations!!

May I ask you which e-cig you used? Do you continue vaping?

Thanks to all of you who share(d) their smoke quitting experience with me!

I used the disposable ones. At first then. Dh bought something. Over Internet. There is a thread about this in the members only. (I'd share the link but don't know how :))

My daughter has been doing e cig for over a year. She went from 12 nicotine level to 3. She buys all different flavors that smell great. It may be safer, but I notice a lot of teens are vaping now.

I saw a poll, in the New York Times, and the local Az MSM, about how the use of cigarettes has drastically gone down for middle school and high school students, but vaping has had a sudden rise, not to the level of what previous cigarette use was, but it has gone up. I'd like to know whether these kids are vaping non-nicotine e-cigs. These polls usually just post numbers, and not the particulars. And then there's the question as to who is actually funding the poll/survey. Before Big Tobacco got into e-cigs just in the last few years, they were funding most of the negative studies. Vaping has taken a huge chunk of their revenue away

http://www.nytimes.com/2015/04/17/h...sharply-among-teenagers-report-says.html?_r=0

But the numbers had a bright side. The decline in cigarette use among teenagers accelerated substantially from 2013 to 2014, dropping by 25 percent, the fastest pace in years.

The National Youth Tobacco Survey (NYTS) is a school-based, self-administered questionnaire given annually to middle and high-school students in both public and private schools. NYTS, which surveyed 22,000 students in 2014, is a nationally representative survey.

However, medical researchers have begun to show interest in one of the most reviled components of cigarettes --nicotine. And they're interested in this potent, powerfully addictive substance for its health benefits.

While no nicotine-derived drugs are available yet, many are in the development or testing phases. The variety of conditions being studied reflects the excitement felt in the scientific community for the potential of nicotine: anxiety, depression, Alzheimer's, Tourette Syndrome, ADHD, Parkinson's disease, diabetes and schizophrenia. Many of these conditions are psychological in nature. Researchers point out that it's probably no coincidence that 50 percent of smokers have mental health problems and that depressed people are twice as likely as non-depressed people to be smokers. Dr. Ed Levin, a prominent nicotine researcher at Duke University, calls it a form of self-medicating [Source: Wired]. (It's also frequently more difficult for depressed people to quit smoking.)

An independent study funded by CASAA (Consumer Advocates of Smoke-free Alternatives Assoc.):

http://blog.casaa.org/2013/08/new-study-confirms-that-chemicals-in.html

By reviewing over 9,000 observations about the chemistry of the vapor and the liquid in e-cigarettes, Dr. Burstyn was able to determine that the levels of contaminants e-cigarette users are exposed to are insignificant, far below levels that would pose any health risk. Additionally, there is no health risk to bystanders. Proposals to ban e-cigarettes in places where smoking is banned have been based on concern there is a potential risk to bystanders, but the study shows there is no concern.

CASAA Scientific Director, Carl V. Phillips, summarized the importance of the study, saying “It has always been clear that e-cigarettes were much lower risk than smoking, but there was uncertainty about whether continuing to inhale a mix of chemicals posed a measurable risk. Even those of us who have long encouraged smokers to switch are a bit surprised that even the worst-case-scenario risks are so low. This study assures us that e-cigarettes are as low risk as other smoke-free tobacco and nicotine products, like smokeless tobacco and NRT. All of these products are about 99% less harmful than smoking, and so smokers who switch to them gain basically the same health benefits as if they quit tobacco and nicotine entirely.”

I did a lot of research before I switched to vaping because what was the point of switching if I was just contributing to the possibility of developing the same diseases that smoking contributed to or caused. Vaping has been around since 2000 and it really frustrates me that the early vapers haven't been studied.......but maybe it's because they don't even use nic anymore? Who knows.

In the first 6 weeks of vaping, I had a bunch of crud coming out of my lungs, my morning smokers hack disappeared, my caffeine consumption went down, and I actually lost weight (which I didn't need to do). Your taste buds start coming back...like, wow! I also didn't "suck" on an e-cig like I would a cig: You smoke a cig til it's gone, and e-cig you might take 1 or 2 draws and then you put it down. It was relatively easy to go from 24 mg nic down to 11 mg nic. I sometimes go 8 hours w/o vaping because I just don't think about it. I believe it's a healthier choice for me.

You hear the argument that nicotine is addictive, so is caffeine and sugar. You hear that nicotine is poison, but just about any substance can be deadly if taken in large amounts, water or milk as examples.

Almost all States have laws that prohibit the sale of e-cigs to minors, but just like cigarettes and alcohol, teenagers will find a way.

Morning all!

Just checking in...

To bad - U.S.A. lost to the Russians... :( but the U.S.A. will play the Czech Republic for the Bronze medal; Russians play Canada for the Gold today... GO CANADA!!! :canada:

This is funny - my Huz was out in the back yard watching the train chain gang cleaning up the tree branches that they had cut down a couple of days ago - hauling the branches onto a train barge. All of sudden a gray fox comes thru under our fence and runs right into the Huz and looks up at him with a  look on his face (the fox's face); takes a quick left around the Huz and runs thru our front gate up the hill. My Huz thinks its a path this fox has taken before, as the fox knew where to slip under our fence near a creek that runs thru our back yard.

Anyway - suppose to have more thunder showers says the news channel, but the Huz is getting mad when they don't come over us... he likes to go outside when the thunder and lightning are out there... me  LOL!

I too like to smoke... haven't had the urge to quit...

Hope all is well with everyone! coffeejunkie so glad to hear that Ryan woke up - even if you had to leave...

off to read other threads!

:seeya:

I started with a Panda disposable e-cig, they're on the web. After I joined the Ecig Forum, about a month later, that's when the learning curve started. (I used the name "NiNi".) After about 9 months of trial and error with many different devices and e-juices, I ended up with a "mod" (the housing that holds the battery) called the Pro-Vari, and a "tank" or "topper" designed by Kayfun (there's several companies that produce that style and all are pretty good) that involves making your own "coils" and "wicks", no biggie, I can do it in my sleep practically! I still vape but it's not the "do or die" drama I had with cigs.

I ended up buying toppers through China: http://focalecig.com/ Dirt cheap and quality that rivals the original producers. Rule of thumb, always clean any topper you buy regardless of where it was produced. Always buy your ejuice from recommended domestic sources, they have strict quality control and lab conditions.

There are thousands of YouTube videos out there to help guide you through every aspect if you're a visual person.
There is the ecig thread here on WS's, I was on there when it first started. I'm posting here because this is our sidebar "family", lol! Our posts run the gambit of just about everything!

Nurmi is cracking me up--can't help it--for two reasons: 1.) His timing at sentencing, and 2.) His recent tweet.

We have storms moving across now. I'm going to sit on the front porch and enjoy it.

Was in Baltimore yesterday for the 140th Preakness. Saw on the news today that it was a record crowd. I find that hard to believe, attendance didn't seem that strong; but good on them if it's true.

Not to take anything away from American Pharaoh who proved that he is truly a great horse, but the real story was the weather! Torrential rains came in just before the race; instant mud puddles, poor visibility, high winds, thunder and ominous black skies added to the already dramatic event. What a chaotic mess! So grateful no horses or people were injured.

In the field of just 8 horses, I picked Bodhisattva (as a nod to Steely Dan). Of course he came in dead last :/

Still, it was great to visit "Charm City" and see that after all the turmoil in the past few weeks it still lives up to its name. Fun place and friendly people. Stay strong, Baltimore!

I agree about the draws

I quit smoking many years ago, first with nicotine gum (which I didn't like), and since then, with nicotine lozenges. I have to say they are quite effective, as I have never since had the urge to smoke. However, they do nothing (for me at least) to allay the addiction to nicotine. In fact, I think they're more addictive than cigarettes! But they satisfy my cravings, and as I don't drink coffee, they help me get going in the morning.

A nice Sunday May, 17, 2015. We have a60% chance of rain tonight. The storms last night were magnificence. Anna and I sat out till four.

Good Morning Sidebar Friends!
:loveyou:
Happy quiet Monday.
I'll be over on the Holmes trial thread today. Need to recharge my body-batteries after heavy duty yard work over the weekend. So, won't feel guilty spending most of the day in my recliner.

Really, really looking forward to Tuesday's preliminary hearing for Chase Merritt, under arrest for the CA murder of the entire McStay family.

Which posts you looking for, Nore? Here (they should be showing up.... try refreshing the page?). Or the whole site? No problem on my end. I have no clue why you should be having so many problems with WS, but it has to be aggravating!

Morning all!

Looking for new posts.

Can you see me now??? Looks like you are really having problems Nore seeing any recent posts... I don't know - I believe it's your computer!!

Not much to report here - oh - we might be getting a kitten today - have to go up the hill later and see if we want one of them!!

See ya! :seeya:

Good thing we weren't on the case to sleuth you out, Dmacky! :websleuther: tale to be remembered, for sure. :takeoff:

Niner, new kitties are so adorable! Come back and let us know all about it! :cat:
