Cubbeegirl, been there, done that. Do what you have to do. Addiction makes everyone, except the addict, hit "pause" on their life. Why? Because we love that person. We miss that person, we can't see our lives without that person.
But the only thing of importance to them is their addiction. They don't feel the heartache we go through.
Have to raise my hand about methadone too. The 1st ex has been on it for about 6 years now, has Hep C and a liver like a sieve. My daughter has been on and off it also, many times.
My ex said 30 something years ago that he'd never go on methadone because it was more addictive than heroin. I guess when you get in your mid 50's, something's gotta give. He recently turned 60.
What's terrible is heroin is dirt cheap, and people who have been cut off there pain meds hit the streets, pain meds are expensive out there, so they give the old college try and end up addicted to heroin.
