hahaha, cilantro is such a weird herb. People either love it or hate it. I happen to like it, but you are not alone in your distaste:

"Different people may perceive the taste of coriander [cilantro] leaves differently. Those who enjoy it say it has a refreshing, lemony or lime-like flavor, while those who dislike it have a strong aversion to its taste and smell, likening it to that of soap and bugs."

Apparently, people who dislike it have a genetic predisposition:

"Those who dislike the taste are sensitive to the offending unsaturated aldehydes, while simultaneously may also be unable to detect the aromatic chemicals that others find pleasant."

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Coriander

Not that any of this info is going to make you like cilantro any better, but hope this helps you understand why!

Who knows (or wants to admit) that they know what BUGS taste like!?

Well I do and they're mighty fine if they are in a good ole Hershey bar  Oh wait, I take that back. I've only eaten their legs, isn't that right coffeejunkie?
In fact, we all have eaten bugs! We just don't know it.

Ugh. I may have finally found the aversion to food diet that will work.

Haha, I LOVE dishes with cilantro - in summer time ceviche is one of my favorites - and I don't mind eating bugs without knowing it rather than being eaten by them.

Parents Charged with 'Neglect' After 11-Year-Old Plays in Yard for 90 Minutes

"Two Florida parents were hit with felony neglect charges after their 11-year-old son was reportedly playing alone in the backyard for an hour and a half.

This article reminds me of when I first moved to this area.
My neighbor's children stayed on their front porch until their parents came home from work (maybe 2 hours) and one of
the neighbors reported them to Social Services. When I found out, I volunteered to watch them. I thought it
was very un-neighborly to report them as the children (3) were all over 10 years old (they were very well-behaved children).
I don't understand why the reporting neighbor didn't speak to the children's parents first to see if they could help. :sheesh:

This is very scary, IMO. :scared:

Sorry this reply is so late. It's a busy time of month for me....

She is 25" long and weighs 17 +/- pounds! And she was the runt, lol.

Here's a little story I wrote about her with a cool app I found last night (the app is free)

What a beautiful cat you have and wonderful, funny story you wrote. ( )
Thanks for posting your story.

Your cat is a calico cat with such beautiful colors. Our neighbors have a calico cat, but is very small, and he has thumbs!
I researched cats with thumbs and found this info:
------------------------------------

Polydactyl Cats: The Felines With Extra Toes

"...American writer Ernest Hemingway was a lover of polydactyl cats. He was given his first polydactyl cat, a white six-toed feline named Snowball, by a ship's captain; today, nearly 50 of Snowball's descendants still live at the Hemingway Home in Key West. Polydactyl cats are known by many names, including “Hemingway cats,” a reference to Snowball and her famous owner. They are also referred to as “mitten cats,” “big-foot cats” and “six-toed cats” — or even “cats with thumbs.”..."

Good morning all!

Feeling a lot better today! My older bro has been posting all kinds of 1950s pictures on his Facebook. Some pictures I don't even have!!??!! I do now! LOL! Brings back SO many good memories of my family! :)

Niner-
My thoughts and prayers are with you during this sad time. May your good memories bring you Peace. Your Brother was loved by many.

Pat
Sorry about your loss. It is hard to lose any family member but siblings can really hurt. (((Niner)))

Thank you PAJS and zoey! :grouphug:

Have to admit my almost total ignorance about Latvia. Your posts piqued my curiosity which led me to look it up on Wikipedia. Fascinating stuff! One of the things I LOVED was this:

"Latvian Song and Dance Festival is an important event in Latvian culture and social life. It has been held since 1873, normally every five years. Approximately 30,000 performers altogether participate in the event.[167]
Although usually folksongs and classical choir songs are sung, with emphasis on a cappella singing, recently modern popular songs have been incorporated into the repertoire, as well."

I watched a video of it and it was amazing:

So thanks for the history lesson and introduction to all things Latvian!

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Latvia

GigiG - not too many people know where Latvia is - especially when I was growing up; but of course at that time they were under Soviet rule... :(
We have a Song Festival happening in San Jose, California this coming September! My bro from Latvia and sister/husband in Sweden are all coming here for that! And now we are planning our own memorial for little bro than too. It should be fun!

Actually, Susza, (speaking only for myself), I found your thoughts to be very eloquent and well-spoken; almost poetic. Maybe you have a better grasp of the language than we do... :)

Actually, English is my third language... I think I do pretty good! or is that pretty well? LOL! My Huz always corrects me if I use a word wrong... :gaah:  first was Latvian of course, and than Swedish (where I was born) as we had a Swedish nanny; than we came here.

Off to get my massage today - I sure need it!! I can relax and enjoy it! :D

Bernina ~ Thanks for sharing the Arizona weather with us for the week. It made my day! I so hope that our little "Goddess" was able to buy those 2 sweatshirts she desperately needed from the PRISON commissary. Looks like she's really gonna need them this week

WS won't let me reply with your post :gaah: Plus, I am not able to thank anyone without 2 refreshes, and some of YoN posts are coming up blank with x's on the pic's

As of this morning, there is an excessive heat watch in 281129's little corner of hell, 111 degrees they predict for today, topping out at 112 in the middle of the week.
At 8:43 am, it's currently 96 degrees in Goodyear, Az, but no doubt you can add a degree or two for Perryville with it's lack of trees, asphalt roads, concrete nad metal roofed bbuildings, and general desolation.
281129 just might need 3 sweatshirts and thermals, it's still kind of chilly for your general run of the mill Spawn of Satan.

281129 is sooooooo full of caca, her eyes are brown. Pffttt, sweatshirts, right! :floorlaugh:

On another note, completely unrelated to any topic of conversation here, I went out to dinner tonight at a restaurant that offered a New England Clam Bake ($35/prix fixe). I chose this restaurant specifically for that reason. Hard to find a good clam bake around here.

Also, it's a rather new restaurant in the DC area, and I like to patronize "human-owned" as opposed to chain restaurants.

The food was well-prepared, but I found it odd that my seafood was flavored with tarragon (?)

The chef came by our table and I expressed my "ambivalence" about the addition of tarragon. He told me that New Englanders like to add tarragon to their seafood. My daughter, who was dining with me, later told me I shouldn't have said anything... (Even though I thought I was being exceedingly polite, apparently, I embarrassed her).

So my question to any New Englanders out there is: 1) Is this true about tarragon? and 2), was I rude to point out that it seemed inauthentic to me? (I did not say that I didn't like it... but truth be told, I didn't like it. (Tarragon is a very strong-tasting herb, which to me, overpowers the delicate flavors of seafood.)

ETA

I have lived in DC all my life, but come from a long line of New Englanders (Maine, New Hampshire & Massachusetts). I vacation at our family place on the coast of Maine every chance I get (not often enough!) But I've never had a clam bake or lobster served with anything more than lemon, butter and a bit of parsley...

Anyone?
I am not from New England, but have gone to several clam bakes in Cape Cod. I have never had tarragon in the clam bake. Maybe Old Bay or chorizo, but no tarragon. If tarragon is used, it is usually the leaves accompanied by other spices while baking, but not served with the food. Very strange.

I don't think you were rude at all. The chef was looking for feedback, and you politely gave it to him. He may need to adjust his recipe. :)
