Oh! the things kids say...our great granddaughter, her Momma, and my DH went to a professional baseball (Frontier League)game yesterday. When they got home, Lizzy's Momma asked her did she have fun. She was so busy telling me all about it she ignored her. Her Momma asked again and Lizzy nodded her head YES. Few minutes later her Mom asked again, well...Lizzy as serious as any 4 yr old can get, put her hands on her hips and said, "MOTHER"! You asked me that 8 times already!! :)

I used to have a very sweet Dalmation whose favorite treat was carrots (go figure!).

Apparently, they're as good for dogs as they are for humans.

http://www.mnn.com/family/pets/stories/11-human-foods-dogs-can-eat-and-5-they-shouldnt

Just wanted to add to my own post...

I adopted this wonderful Dalmation from a guy who had just gotten a divorce and couldn't keep her in his new apartment community.

He told me how much she liked carrots, so after I picked her up, I made sure to buy some on my way home. I took her into the house to let her sniff her way around her new environment, then went back to my car to get her accoutrements (and the carrots). On my way back inside, a neighbor walking past called out to me asking if I knew there was a Dalmation on my roof!?! I looked up and sure enough, there she was on the roof of my porch looking like she was about to jump! I'm sure it was a separation anxiety kind of thing -- this stranger (me) takes her away from her master and brings her to a weird new place only to abandon her!?!

I felt so bad for her. I ran back into the house and coaxed her to come back through the window which she had jumped out of, using the carrots as bait. Whew!

After that, the transition was very smooth. She was our wonderful, faithful dog and an integral part of our family for about eight years.

One day, I noticed she was listless and it dawned on me that she had been that way for a while. I took her to the vet and he called later to tell me that she had cancer. The diagnosis was dire, but he did offer to do some kind of surgery which was not only expensive, but also had a very low chance of curing her. He told me to sleep on it and call him in the morning.

What a terrible predicament! I hated having to tell my children that I made the decision to have her put down, yet the surgery seemed to offer so little hope.

True to her nature, our wonderful Dalmation took the decision out of my hands. She passed on overnight, leaving both her dignity and mine intact. I still miss her.

Looks like we are in for some nasty weather tomorrow through Tuesday morning...

#‎tristatewx‬ ‪#‎INwx‬ ‪#‎KYwx‬ ‪#‎ILwx‬ SPC Day 2 Outlook places a MODERATE Risk of Severe Thunderstorms from about Evansville to the NE which covers much of Central Indiana and South Central Indiana, an ENHANCED Risk covers the rest of the Tri-State. There is a great concern for widespread wind damage with next wave that will make it's way down the persistent trough that has been in place a few days now. I usually hesitate to mention it, but the pattern supports what we call a 'derecho' this is a long lived MCS that barrel E or SE along a strong thermal boundary often spreading damaging winds over a large area. It typically does massive damage to infrastructure and can knock out power over a large area for days. Derechoes are particularly hard to forecast because of the influence of a strong ridge and mesoscale effects such southward drag of the main complex due to cold air pooling (rain cooled air) which is the main driver... It's hard to say exactly where it will go,, and models are not going to catch on until its pretty much happening... Usually the height line they follow is the 588 decameter ridge axis. Right now that is completely over the Tri-State, note the absence of cloud cover this afternoon. It's completely in control at the moment. If this happens tomorrow everything will miss to the North and East. If the ridge regresses back to the SW of us ( as many models are forecasting...) then we will be game for at least the eastern half of the Tri-State. This picture should start to come together late tonight. I will do a full update then...

Other concerns... Flooding. The rainfall in these storms will be nothing short of epic, more than likely 2+"/hr rates. Given the soggy soil already in place it won't take much to create hazardous flooding problems, this is a side the
potential wind, and tornadoes that are also possible....
Threats are in this order: Wind ---> Flooding ---> Tornadoes

Timing, also difficult because a mature derecho will speed up forward speed as the jet is anchored toward the surface, but late Monday afternoon through the evening hours will likely be prime time, especially north.

I am reading "the life-changing magic of tidying up" by Marie Kindo. It is on the New York Times bestseller list and about the "Japanese art of decluttering and organizing. I have been very inspired by y'all. :)

By coincidence, this book was given to me by a friend today. I think she gave it away because it didn't "spark her joy"!

Gigi, what a nice ending for your lovely Dalmatian. That would have been such a terrible decision to have to make, and she did it for you. Bless her forever.

Coffee..... I sure hope your weather does not take such a nasty turn! Be ready and stay safe. Let us know how it goes for your area.

I am so excited to be meeting our WS pal, Bravo, tomorrow. We are meeting at a sweet coffee shop here about mid-day. I so hope she likes the place, but even more.... I hope we like each other in person as much as we do online! We will.... I am positive! Wonder if I might go up to a stranger and give her a hug..... :giggle: That would definitely give Bravo a laugh!

Hugs for everyone!

Have a lovely Monday, my friends.

Oh my sweet Dmacky, I have cried over a few of my lost furbabes in much the same way as you are now. It really is sad when we have to let go and forge ahead without that little shadow. :therethere: I wish I could make you feel better, but I sure do care.
--
I am frustrated with auto correct making my words other than what they were! My eyes don't always catch the "correction". :stormingmad:

:crying:

:therethere:

We can't take away your pain, but we can walk with you in it.

When you become a guardian of an animal, it comes with the understanding that they don't live as long as we do- although this understanding doesn't make it any easier when the time comes that they must leave us, IMO. So- do we stop having animals in our lives so we are spared the pain or do we enjoy their love of us, for however long, in spite of the pain to come when they are gone? I opted for the later in my life and I wouldn't wish that I never had my little lovelies throughout my life, even with the pain, and I take great comfort in that acknowledgement.

Take heart, my dear Dmacky :heartbeat:, and cry here when you need to. We will listen and cry with you-we've all been there sometime in our lives when we have lost our pets.

Awww................ :heartbeat:
Thank you my friends for the kind words and beautiful song... :crying:

More Uses for Vinegar

1. Freshen up the fridge. Clean the shelves and walls with a solution of half water and half vinegar.

2. Brighten coffee cups and teacups. Gently scrub stains with equal parts vinegar and salt (or baking soda).

3. Eliminate odors. Swab plastic containers with a cloth dampened with vinegar.

4. Kill bathroom germs. Spray full-strength vinegar around the sink and tub. Wipe clean with a damp cloth.

5. Save a garment. To remove light scorch marks on fabrics, rub gently with vinegar. Wipe with a clean cloth. This technique also works on antiperspirant stains.

6. Tidy up a toilet. Pour a cup or more of diluted white distilled vinegar into the bowl. Let sit several hours or overnight. Scrub well with a toilet brush and flush.

7. Lose the carpet stain. Make a paste of 2 tablespoons white distilled vinegar and ¼ cup salt or baking soda. Rub into the stain and let dry. Vacuum the residue the next day. (Always test an out-of-sight part of the carpet first.)

8. Renew paint brushes. To remove old paint, place brushes in a pot with vinegar. Soak for an hour, then turn on the stove and bring the vinegar to a simmer. Drain and rinse clean.

9. Wipe off a dirty faucet. To get rid of lime buildup, make a paste of 1 teaspoon vinegar and 2 tablespoons salt. Apply to sink fixtures and rub with a cloth.

10. Stop static cling. Add ½ cup of white distilled vinegar to your wash cycle. The acid reduces static and keeps dryer lint from sticking to your clothes.

11. Make old socks look new. Get the stains out of old socks and sweaty gym clothes by soaking them in a vinegar solution. Add 1 cup of white distilled vinegar to a large pot of water, bring to a boil and drop in the stained clothes. Let them soak overnight, and in the morning stained clothes are fresh and bright.

12. Restore handbags and shoes. Wipe white distilled vinegar on scuffed leather bags and shoes. It will restore their shine and help hide the marks.

13. Banish weeds. Pour white distilled vinegar on the weeds growing in the cracks of your walkway and driveway. Saturate the plant so the vinegar reaches the roots.

14. Liven droopy flowers. Don’t throw out cut flowers once they start to wilt. Instead, add two tablespoons of white vinegar and one teaspoon of sugar to a quart of water. Pour the solution into your vase, and the flowers will perk up.

15. Put an end to itching. Dab a cotton ball soaked in white vinegar on mosquito bites and insect stings. It will stop them from itching and help disinfect the area so they heal faster.

16. Whiten your teeth. Brush your teeth once a week with white distilled vinegar. Dip your toothbrush into the vinegar and brush thoroughly. It will help prevent bad breath, too.

17. Make nail polish last longer. Before you apply your favorite polish, wipe your nails with a cotton ball soaked in white distilled vinegar. The clean surface will help your manicure last.

18. Keep car windows frost-free. Prevent windows from frosting over in a storm by coating them with a solution of three parts white distilled vinegar to one part water. The acidity hinders ice, so you won’t have to wake up early to scrape off your car.

19. Let your dog shine. Spray your dog with one cup white distilled vinegar mixed with one quart water. The solution is a cheap alternative to expensive pet-care products, plus the vinegar will help repel pests like fleas and ticks.

20. Battle litter-box odor. Cat litter can leave behind an unwelcome smell. Eliminate it by pouring a half-inch of white distilled vinegar into the empty litter box. Let stand for 20 minutes, then rinse with cold water.

21. Kill bacteria in meat. Marinating in vinegar knocks out bacteria and tenderizes the meat. Create a marinade by adding ¼ cup balsamic vinegar for every 2 pounds of meat to your own blend of herbs and spices. Let the meat sit anywhere from 20 minutes to 24 hours, depending on how strong you want the flavor, then cook it in the morning without rinsing.

22. Prevent cracked eggs. Prevent eggs from cracking as they hard-boil by adding two tablespoons of white vinegar to the water. The eggs will stay intact, and the shells will peel off more easily when you’re ready to eat them.

23. Steam away a microwave mess. Fill a small bowl with equal parts hot water and vinegar, and place it in the microwave on high for 5 minutes. As the steam fills the microwave, it loosens the mess, making clean up a breeze.

24. Repair DVDs. If you have a worn DVD that skips or freezes, wipe it down with white distilled vinegar applied to a soft cloth. Make sure the DVD is completely dry before reinserting it into the player.

25. Get those last drops. If you can’t get that final bit of mayonnaise or salad dressing out of the jar, dribble in a few drops of vinegar. Put the cap on tightly and shake. The remaining condiments will slide out.

26. Rinse fruits and vegetables. Add 2 tablespoons white distilled vinegar to one pint water. Use the mixture to wash fresh fruits and vegetables, then rinse thoroughly. The solution kills more pesticide residue than does pure water.

27. Brighter Easter eggs. Before your kids dye Easter eggs, mix 1 teaspoon of vinegar with ½ cup of hot water, then add food coloring. The vinegar keeps the dye bright and prevents the color from streaking.

28. Loosen a rusted screw. Pour vinegar onto the screw, and it will easily unstick.

29. Remove gum. To remove gum from fabric or hair, heat a small bowl of vinegar in the microwave. Pour the warm vinegar over the gum, saturating the area. The gum will dissolve.

30. Keep cheese from molding. Wrap cheese in a vinegar-soaked cloth, then place in an airtight container and refrigerate.

31. Renew a loofah. Soak your loofah in equal parts vinegar and water for 24 hours to dissolve soap residue, then rinse in cold water.

32. Remove wax. If you get melted candle wax on your wood furniture or floors, gently wipe it away with a cloth soaked in a solution of equal parts white vinegar and water.

33. Take a relaxing bath. Add ½ cup of vinegar to warm bath water for a cheap spa session at home. The vinegar removes dead skin, leaving you feeling soft and smooth.

34. Brighten your hair. Remove hair product buildup by rinsing a tablespoon of vinegar through your hair once a month.

35. Freshen fabrics. Fill a spray bottle with white vinegar and spritz your home to neutralize odors in fabrics, carpets, shoes or any sprayable surface.

36. Erase crayon. If your kids get crayon marks on the walls or floor, dip a toothbrush in white vinegar and gently scrub. The vinegar breaks down the wax, making for an inexpensive, nontoxic way to clean up after children.

37. Sticky stickers. Don’t scratch at the residue left by stickers or price tags. Instead, apply vinegar to the gunk, let it sit for a few minutes, then wipe the glue away.

38. Clean the dishwasher and coffee pot. Reduce soap buildup and food residue by pouring a cup of vinegar into your empty dishwasher or coffee pot once a month and letting it run a full cycle.

39. Sanitize pet accidents. You can remove the stain?and smell?of your pet’s accident by mixing ¼ cup vinegar with a quart of water and blotting the mixture onto the mess with a washcloth. Continue dabbing until the spot is gone.

40. Prep for summer grilling. To remove charcoal buildup from your grill, spray white distilled vinegar on balled up aluminum foil and scrub the grate thoroughly.

41. Restore showerhead pressure. If your showerhead gets clogged with mineral deposits, soak it for 15 minutes in a mixture of ½ cup vinegar and 1 quart water.

42. Clean your scissors. When your scissor blades get sticky, wipe them down with a cloth dipped in full-strength white vinegar. Unlike soap and water, vinegar won’t ruin the blades or rust the metal.

43. Unclog drains. For a natural, nontoxic way to clean clogged pipes, pour one cup of baking soda, followed by one cup of white vinegar, down the drain. Let the products bubble and foam, then flush the pipes with a pot of boiling water.

44. Eliminate dandruff. If your scalp is feeling dry or flaky, vinegar can be a simple at-home remedy. Once a week, pour one cup of apple cider vinegar over your scalp, and let it sit for 15 minutes. Rinse thoroughly with cool water.

DRY SKIN

Dry skin is a common problem that is seen in almost everyone specially during winters when humidity is less. The areas most affected are the cheeks, area under the eye, thighs, lower arms, chest, and sides of abdomen. The skin becomes tight and itchy. In severe cases there is scaliness and cracks on the skin. There are many causes that leads to dry skin like environmental factors (less humidity, cold, sun exposure, use of excess make-up, harsh soaps and pollution), Nutrient deficiencies like deficiency of vitamin E, A and B, Skin problems like dermatitis, eczema, and psoriasis and the last cause is less supply of oil by the oil glands to the skin. Many cosmetic products are available in the market to make your skin soft and reduce dryness. But then it is always better to opt for home remedies. I'm watching the weather very close. Latest update is they are expecting it by late afternoon. Winds 75 miles +, dangerous ground lighting, hail...this is a very dangerous storm and I hope and pray the worst of it misses us. I saw on the radar where it is up north and causing a lot of problems. Stay safe, my friend :)

Glad you found some new tips for vinegar uses, I did too.
