Im in. LOL

I love garage sales. There was some huge annual garage sale road trip "thingy" I saw on one of the reality type shows like "Pickers". Where every year they have this 1 state where the garage sales extend into many towns in the state. I cant remember which state it was but people come from miles around each year to tour the area and hit all the garage sales. Some rent UHAULS for the stuff they buy.

I would have to bring my flat bed trailer and make it a vacation and plan it for the time to hit that area. I would love to do that some year.

Me too! :)

I remember watching something on the HGTV channel about some huge yard sale. I use to go to yard dales every Saturday when my younger son
was small and I bought most of his toys that way- saved tone of $.

Look at some of these:

"...Every year individuals clean out their closets and stake out their front yards along the Hwy 127 corridor stretching over 690 miles from Addison, Michigan to Gadsden, Alabama..."

hi-there-smiley.gif
Hey everyone!

Now we need this for a road trip. We'd go up and get YesorNo up in New York slide on down and get Gigi and Zuri, then over to get Spellbound, Nore, coffee and you. I love road trips. Dh tells my sisters and I to tell him where to go and he drives. Of course we'd have to stop at every garage sale, pawn shop and antique shops, but we'd have a wonderful time and good company.

and than onto the West Coast to pick me up!!!

I HATE going UNDER bridges - especially here in California with earthquakes and all!! :gaah: Usually if I'm in traffic going very slow, I will NOT stop under any overpass!! too bad if you are behind me and I have like 5 to 10 feet of no cars in front of me! :D

bed-bug1-smiley.gif
Yikes! I saw one of those bugs on my balcony back porch yesterday!! The kitties were playing with it...

Zuri - Hope you are feeling better!!

In between those dates or after the 21st, my Huz will get his pacemaker!! Still waiting for the nurse to call and schedule this operation. He can stay awake, if he wants, for this procedure... NOT me!! Put me OUT!!! :scared:

Have to say, I'm a homebody too!

'Disturbed' Va. gunman angered by Charleston shootings (with clip)

"...In a long missive to ABC News, a man claiming to be Bryce Williams, Flanagan's on-air name, said he decided to go on Wednesday's shooting spree following the killings in June of nine black worshipers by a white gunman in Charleston, S.C.

Flanagan said he bought a gun two days after the Charleston church rampage.

He called the church shooting a "tipping point ... but my anger has been building steadily ... I’ve been a human powder keg for a while ... just waiting to go BOOM!!!!”..."

Lord, please don't let me get a canker sore the rest of my life.

NO pickles for me, please!! ewwwww

When I was pregnant with Anna, dh bought me the big movie size jars of pickles. I ate one everyday. I remember when I was four or five my mother telling me that I was going to turn into a pickle because I'd sneak them out of the jar int he fridge everyday.

I also use pickle juice in my potato salad instead of vinegar. I cut up onions ,red and green bell peppers, celery and pickles and add it to the boiled with skins on potatoes with a dressing? of mustard, mayonnaise, pickle juice, salt, pepper, basil, rosemary and paprika. My mother would add boiled eggs also.

Well............been wading through my stallion's registration into the Arabian Horse Association.
I didn't follow through with his registration 21 years ago, lol! The whole thing was "Why register him when he might throw yucky babies?" So I waited til he threw his first filly........and just let it slide.
Gah!
I did put in the stallion report, name request, markings, etc., in 1993 and thank goodness that AHA kept the documents!!!
So it's been a fun morning of faxing, emailing, calling, giving my credit card number, and getting all the fun details of what I have to do to get this party started.
AHA initiated DNA testing for verified parentage, but Zubaz was born earlier than the start date, so he has to do full blood typing (which the AHA lab only does twice a year, the next time is in November). Zuri gets to have the DNA verification, 25-50 pulled mane hairs shipped to a lab (ahhhh.....forensics!!!).
It all started this morning with renewing my membership which had lapsed for the last 20 years, and that wasn't that simple because I had a divorce and legal name change, the membership was a "family" one.
Squared away!
Next: Reinstate the old paper work on Zubaz. They were able to find it pretty quick, and it was the 2nd time the ol' credit card got a workout.
Write out a letter of reinstatement, copy and fax it to the Registry............and I'm waiting on a return call from the gal helping me so I can get the registration fee paid............so they can send me the blood typing kit.
I never transferred Kissy into my name, so going to get that in the mail so they can print out a new registration.
Then it's filling out 2 stallion reports for Zubaz to cover Zuri and Kissy's baby that's due in a few months. (Ok, kids, I'm over the fretful baby due date fiasco of last year!!!!) You'll all be WS "aunties" again. I have her last heat date (grrrr........her and Zubaz were REALLY sneaky) and the "month" she'll be due. (Horses have that 30 day variance on gestation, some long, some short). If she goes 340 days, Nov. 11, so countdown starts then........:scared:but then she might go 370 days, who knows?

And lastly, getting Zuri registered. Fee plus DNA hair.

This is why you DON'T procrastinate!!!!! :floorlaugh: And with this association, procrastination costs more $$$.

I got a fire under my butt after spending time with Zubaz yesterday, he's really aged this summer and with the boney tumor growth, who knows how long he'll be with me. Still full of piss and vinegar, but I'm not taking any chances. He's spent the last few days running the property with Zuri, she loves her daddy!:loveyou:

And to think, that huge yard sale starts in Michigan

Bernina, all that paperwork is worse than signing a mortgage! You have been a busy lady. Congrats on the upcoming birth ..... give us a heads up in early November .... my brain will not remember that far ahead.

Niner .... have a wonderful time on your trips. I hope all goes well for your hubby. A pacemaker should help him feel so much better, too.

Hi all, hope everyone's having a good day

I have to tell you about a dream I had last night because I can't seem to get it out of my head. It was so lucid and so real that when I woke up my heart was racing and I stayed awake the rest of the night.

In it, we were vacationing in the Rocky Mountains at some kind of ranch. My husband for some unknown reason let our dog off leash, something we never do outdoors unless it's within the confines of our fenced yard. Our dog of course took off to explore so I went after him, then had a frightening premonition that there was a Mountain Lion right there. I found my furbaby and quickly grabbed him up, then turned around and behind me there was a huge ML crouched down watching us from just a few feet away. At first I thought he was so beautiful and didn't appear menacing at all, instead he seemed rather docile and surprised that I had seen him.

That didn't last long though and I saw predator in his eyes, then he starting coming for us. I took off running to the cabin knowing all the time I wasn't supposed to run, but I knew I had to get my dog to safety or the ML would get him. Of course, as bad dreams go, the ML was right on my heels, I was frantically running yet in slow motion, there was a flight of stairs to climb, and there were vines growing all around the door so I couldn't get it open. I'm not sure how but we finally, barely made it inside the cabin :fainted: leaving the ML outside pacing.

I then proceeded to read my husband the riot act - didn't he know that Mountain lions can carry off small children the size of missing little Deorr Kunz and are known to carry off dogs too?! What was he thinking?! Then I gave my son a lecture about always being aware, that people go missing in the wilderness forever. My son is grown now, but in my dream he was a boy again, lol.

Then I dreamed I sat down at the computer and posted here about what happened. :giggle:

Anyway, maybe I can get this blasted dream out of my head now. :) :seeya:

Oh my, neesakei, that was a horrible dream. I rarely have that kind, but the few I have are so real and lasting that I can definitely understand your uneasiness today. Hope you can relax and feel better now.

I actually have a lot of weird, lucid dreams in which I fly; better than running though, LOL ... I do wonder sometimes why I have such strange dreams. Anyway, this one was my own fault as I've been reading up on mountain lions, and there's been quite a bit of discussion about them on the Deorr Kunz missing thread, AND I've been reading the Missing 411 books about all the missing persons in the national parks. :scared: Guess I shouldn't be surprised, I finally shook off the weird feeling, it helped to write it down. Now I'm just sleepy.

We have a bridge that is called two mile bridge over lake Tawakoni, the bridges over the causeways in Galveston and South Padre Island, but the hardest was going over Lake Pontchartrain in Lousiana. One of the two bridges is 23 miles long.

I remember when that bridge fell up there in Minnesota, IIRC it was in 2007.

I have never been to Louisiana, but as a foodie, have always wanted to go, just to eat.

I had no idea the Lake Pontchartrain Causeway is the world's longest bridge over a body of water (?). It's pretty low though, so I think it would be okay (not scary), kind of like the bridges linking the Florida Keys. But pictures of it are mind-blowing -- it seems to go on forever!

I have crossed the Chesapeake Bay Bridge many times, and although it gives me a little bit of anxiety, I guess I'm just used to it, plus it's worth it to get to the beach resorts. Still, I know many people who are paralyzed by fear and simply can't do it.

The worst bridge for me is the Richmond-San Rafael Bridge in the SF bay area. (I'm sure LinusK is familiar with it.) I have no problem with the Oakland Bay Bridge or the Golden Gate (except that it's sooo expensive!), but for some reason, the Richmond-San Rafael really scares me. And there is the fact that as you approach the San Rafael side, San Quentin Prison is on your left. It's actually a very pretty sight from the bridge, but then you realize what evil lies within.

Niner's old avatar had a picture of the bridge in Auburn which is soooo far above the land below it! It looks like it's in the Andes. I think that one would freak me out!

I had a great uncle on my father side that was killed on a bridge while driving an 18 wheeler, so maybe that is where I get some fear of bridges. It was in the mid fifties. I vaguely remember a newspaper article I hate long two lane bridges with no where to go. I hate the High Five and other overpasses and interchanges in the metroplex. And I hate driving next to the concrete barriers.

I've been over the Chesapeake Bay bridge and IIRC it was in the midst of construction, then in the tunnel? I hate tunnels too.

This must be the month for animals issues. :gaah: Hopefully September will bring an end to it!!!!!

I've always had my questions about heartworm. I've never had a dog with it, and never given any of my dogs preventatives for it.
What makes mosquitoes of the last 25-30 years capable of giving canines this? And it seems it's always short haired dogs.
And why are dogs living shorter lives than they did 40 years ago?
Why are there more problems with spinal compression or general vertebra displacement in our critters? It's weird, it seems to come up a lot, dogs and horses. And breaks in bones, like kitties, those critters have alway been so indestructible, with the exception of cars and a pack of coyotes.

So many questions.

Is it food, genetics, vaccinations, supplements, worming, spaying, neutering, gelding, creating a more coddled environment?

BBM All things affect our animals. The Queen only gets her rabies shot every 3 years and nothing else because of my experience with my dog Buddy. He was a
sick dog and the vets always did a titers (sp)blood test when his shots came due and most times he had enough anti-bodies where he didn't need the shots (even the rabies shot).

Genetic Welfare Problems of Companion Animals

"...For 10,000 years the selective breeding of dogs has been focused on aspects of performance, behaviour or appearance. This approach characterises the breeding of many other species of companion animals as well. Unfortunately, this has resulted in many genetic diseases. It is now time for priority to be given to breeding for the animals' welfare. To drive this change, prospective pet owners, and breeders need information on the welfare consequences of these diseases. This website includes information not just about the physical effects of genetic diseases but also assessments of their effects on the animal’s quality of life, for example through causing pain or discomfort, to inform prospective pet owners' choice of their new pet...."

http://www.ufaw.org.uk/geneticwelfareproblems.php
---------------------------------------------------

Theses are the 3 things that The Queen may develop in the future:

Hyperadrenocorticism
Mitral Valve Disease
Pancreatitis and Hyperlipidaemia
------------------------------------------------------------------------

Inherited disorders in cats

"...Cats suffer from inherited disorders like other animals, but they tend to be more common among pedigree cats because the selective breeding and in-breeding (breeding together very closely related cats) used to develop particular characteristics of the breed may also increase the risk of inherited disorders. Indeed in some cases, the breed itself is based on an inherited disorder which, potentially can be harmful to health..."

http://icatcare.org/advice/cat-breeds/inherited-disorders-cats
-------------------------------------------

Genetics:

Why do dogs have so many genetic disorders?

"The list of canine genetic diseases seems to get longer every day, and you have to wonder if this is "normal". Of course, all animals have inherited disorders, but is the dog typical of other animals?..

In general, domestication is associated with the accumulation of genetic diseases, and especially so in animals that are bred in high numbers with significant selection (e.g., cattle, in which different breeds have been selected for beef or milk production). But by far, the most genetic damage has been done to the dog. Dogs have twice as many genetic diseases as cats, and almost three times the number in horses. So yes, it would seem that dogs have more than their fair share of genetic diseases..."

----------------------------------------------------

The Purebred Paradox
Is the quest for the "perfect" dog driving a genetic health crisis?

"...Though the dogs who compete at Westminster are beautiful and most are likely healthy, the rise of such spectacles—and judging measures that in some cases emphasize appearance over welfare—has been blamed for a host of genetic health problems facing scores of breeds today...

Left to their own devices, dogs will be dogs—and will eventually intermingle enough to level out extreme differences within the species. Natural selection ensues and hybrid vigor results: Witness the similar color and size of mutts in Mexico and other countries where they’re allowed to roam. To protect particular characteristics, though, breed enthusiasts have long guarded a highly controlled process, regulating genetic lines and creating registries that stipulate which animals can be bred to produce more of the same type.

But therein lies the problem: The more limited the number of mates, the greater the chance a dog will be bred with a relative who shares similar genes. Genetic diseases are caused by recessive genes, so a good gene from one parent will trump a bad gene from the other. But if both parents have a bad gene—such as one that predisposes them to hip dysplasia or blindness—the likelihood of a sick puppy increases..."

Side Effects and Adverse Reactions

"Vaccinations are one of the most important weapons in the fight against infectious diseases in animals. Many diseases have been virtually eliminated through disease control programs that have incorporated vaccination as one of the control measures. However, vaccines are not without their limitations and there are vaccine failures. In fact, in some cases the reactions or side effects can be worse than the disease they are being used to prevent. How Much Money are You Wasting on Pet Vaccines?

"...Catherine O'Driscoll, from the charity, said: “We are not anti-vaccination. What we are saying is that currently our pets are receiving far too many. The latest scientific research shows that after the first course of injections as a puppy most dogs are immune against these diseases for at least seven years, if not for life.”..

A typical recommendation for a lifetime schedule of pet immunizations is at 6, 8, 10, 12, 14 and 16 weeks of age, with a booster at 12 months, and every year thereafter.
Believe it or not, these recommendations weren’t developed based on any scientific research at all – they were simply “recommendations” in the purest sense of the word.
These entirely unscientific recommendations were introduced by the USDA and vaccine manufacturers over 20 years ago, and many veterinarians continue to follow them today despite mounting concerns about the health risks associated with over-vaccinating..."

Years ago one of my cats developed a cancer tumor in the neck area and I do think it was from the shots she received when she was a kitten, IMO.

Vaccinosis: Health Hazard of Routine Vaccination

"Most pet owners aren't aware of the dangers in animal vaccinations that have been discovered in recent years. The major veterinary associations now agree that vaccinations can trigger all sorts of maladies, from allergies to cancer - but most pet caretakers (and many veterinarians, it seems) haven't gotten the word. "With vaccines that are repeated year after year, the frequency and severity of these side-effects in our pets has increased dramatically. Most of the problems involve the immune system. After all, the immune system is what vaccines are designed to stimulate. But they do so in a very unnatural way that can overwhelm and confuse the immune system." - Dr. Donna Starita Mehan, DVM....

Dr. Pat Bradley, DVM - "In a general and frightening context, I see the overall wellness and longevity of animals deteriorating. The bodies of most animals have a tremendous capacity to detoxify poisons, but they do have a limit. I think we often exceed that limit and overwhelm the body's immune system function with toxins from vaccines. The most common problems I see that are directly related to vaccines on a day to day basis are ear or skin conditions, such as chronic discharges and itching. I also see behavior problems such as fearfulness or aggression. Often guardians will report that these begin shortly after vaccination and are exacerbated with every vaccine.".."

The Truth About Pet Vaccines You Won’t Hear from Your Vet

"omestic dogs and cats today are suffering from an unprecedented and very disturbing epidemic of chronic degenerative disease much of it caused by the very pet vaccines that are supposed to preserve their health.

These animals are routinely presenting with a variety of symptoms and diagnoses that are eerily similar to those being experienced by their owners.
One of the major factors adversely affecting the health of our pets has to do with the quality (or rather lack thereof) of the pet food we feed them.
Besides poor quality food that is not in keeping with the natural diet our furry friends require, chronic and very serious health issues are also emerging due to the shocking overuse of pet vaccines..."
