Those drug commercials are incredible when they talk about the side effects.

They say things like...."This drug has been reported to cause breathing problems, nerve disorders, heart issues, blindness, and even death in some cases. Please consult your doctor"

Uhhhhhh. Sorry, I think I will pass because I value my eyesight and life.

Its just crazy because some of the medicines are for some minor ailment you have like not being able to sleep and yet the side effects can kill you. LOL

And my doctor always says don't worry about the side effects because most people don't get them.

Uhhhhhh. Sorry Doc. If 1 out of 1,000,000 people get the side effect with my luck, I will be that 1. So no thanks.

And whats the deal with doctors always wanting to change your medicine.
I think they get bonuses for getting people on some of the new medicines because when something is working fine then why tell me to change.

Warning and something to be careful about:

My Doc always is trying to get me to change to something even when I tell him I am ok just using the medicine he has me on. So why risk new side effects and new issues when there is no need?

ANSWER: He had a pharmacy rep come in and tell him he can get a free vacation if he gets X number of people to get on the new medicine.

You are so right on this! I'm so thankful my Dr. does not use the pharmacy reps and has never tried changing my meds. I'm the one who tells her if I want try a new med. :) It's my body and I know how I feel :)

This is PERFECT!!! OMG...

The 2nd link just mentioned something I never even considered yet. I HAVE TO DO THIS!!!cause I cannot use my PC anywhere else right now.

Check this out:

"The other day I was in a Hotel that didn’t have a WiFi connection. I tried to log into my Windows 8 laptop, and couldn’t. That was quite annoying. To log in locally, you need to make a local account, here’s how to do it."

What this means is the way I have my laptop setup is that I currently cannot even bring it anywhere and use it anywhere else without some sort of Internet connection. And I don't want that. I want to be able to use it anywhere, anytime, anyplace.

THANK YOU SO MUCH. I HAVE TO DO THIS.

Really interesting info. about Stevia. Did your brother use it a lot, as in several times a day? I rarely use it in cooking and never more than a teaspoon or two even at that, and don't like the taste of it in tea or any kind of drink. But I do take Xanax occasionally, so it's good to know this.

He'd put it in his coffee (usually less than a cup a day), cereal, and in his smoothies (1 or 2 of those a day).
St. John's Wort will put you in a coma if you're taking Xanax..........seriously dangerous.
It's kind of strange because we were raised by an ultra health nut for a mom. More vitamins and supplements for breakfast than actual food sometimes! LOL! The cod liver oil was the worst. Anything that called for sugar had honey or molasses substituted.

coffee junkie, I especially liked your tips for today. I learned some new uses for peanut butter, and that cheesecake recipe has me thinking of other flavor a of jello that could also be used for different ashes. A cool summer treat

It is quite hot here again, and we expect storms later. I need to get out and get the grass cut before that. See ya later

My sister makes ice cream pies and has made the orange one. Soften vanilla ice cream mix with cool whip put in a graham cracker crust and freeze. You can use any flavor ice cream, Mint choclate chip, death by chocolate. The possibilites are endless. This will make two pies. She aslo make frozen pies with soften ice cream, cool whip and 6 ounce of juice. Mix and freeze.

We're hoping for rain. It'sm been over thrity days since it rained last. I've have stood out in the front yard hand watering at night and it takes almost two hours for just the front yard, but we have green grass. I'm thankful we have a well. Right now it's cooler than it was than midnight last night at 93 which is to be our high today. I hope we're over the 100 degree days. I see on the wffa radar that it's heading up your way.

Thank you for this!

Got the grass all cut in time. I wish the dryness of the grass would also affect the darned weeds what are taking over. I refuse to pay a lawn service or buy all those chemicals. Rain is just going to make them grow overnight... aargh

Jasper, thanks for all the tips. I just may be ready when I get to doing the update to 10.

St. John's Wort?! :scared: I've come to realize I can't take any of the natural supplements that are supposedly for depression, anxiety, or insomnia. I've tried them all and they all make me feel terrible, not just the next morning, but for a whole day and into the next night sometimes. And that one called Sam-E, gave me a stomach ache for three days. The 5-HTP supplement is really potent and made me feel like a total zombie, worse than anything else I've ever taken. I couldn't believe how strong it was and how it affected me. Even the lower 50 mg. dose which they recommend for appetite control, tried it, couldn't do it either. Why? Because for it to help with appetite control you have to take it two or three times a day, and due to it's cumulative effects I still ended up feeling like a zonked out zombie. And talk about some weird dreams, LOL.

Good afternoon all!

Thanks for those posts Hatfield and Spellbound! Too bad I don't get Reelz TV.... oh well... I've live through you guys! :D

Niner ... Sharapova has dropped out of this match. :( And Venus did a walkout but don't know why yet.

I had to google walkout and it is someone who drops out for a reason such as health.

The women are now streamed on ESPN3.

The disco queen was wearing the white shiny version of the other dress ... it's very pretty like pearls.

Update - Marie's leg is still bothering her and Venus has a virus.

Okay - thanks for that update on Maria!! I don't do EPSN3!

Niner, I need the diagnoses list. He saw the med list, but without knowing specifically what condition they are being given for, the list serves as only a clue. I hope he feels better soon and can get the Doxycycline.

Getting it all together for you Zuri!! Huz gave me an update of his symptoms to go with the ones I sent already and his update on "how" he is feeling. I typed it up for you, but he wanted to check it first! And added what the medications he is taking for "what" they are for. Will probably send it soon!! :tyou: again for ALL your help!!

I agree with you 100% on the Big Pharma problem. And those commercials for their high dollar drugs, sickening. I was shocked and dismayed when they were allowed to have those commercials. Have you ever listened to the side effects they have some auctioneer type dude spout off in something akin to gibberish at the end? Ha, what a joke. But at the same time, what a shame, because so many people buy into their gimmick, they're just hearing what they want to hear, right? All I can say is what a racket!

Yep - all BIG Pharma!! got to get the $$$$$$$ off of us. Before our appointment (we make one together) to see our medical doctor, we made a list of all the drug commercials we saw as a joke for our doctor. He had a good laugh! I like the side effect: brain sensations! wonder what those feel like??!! :waitasec:

DID YOU KNOW

These uses for Peanut Butter...

Shave With It
Believe it or not, peanut butter makes a great shaving gel. Just apply it like you would apply the gel, and shave as normal. It works just as well and anyone that has bought a container of shaving gel will know, it is a hell of a lot cheaper. The end result is a very smooth shave and, as a bonus, the oils in the peanut butter are very good for your skin, so you don’t need to spend even more money on moisturizer for your legs or face. You might want to remember to use smooth peanut butter though – the chunky stuff doesn’t work quite as well.

If any of you ladies or hubby's try the shaving tip, let us know how that works out for ya!:waitasec:

Told Huz about this! He LOVES peanut butter, so he said he would try shaving it with it! Except one thing - his hair and mustache have NOT grown since his medical problems started. ?? wonder why?? I'll let you know how his shaving with peanut butter goes/feels!

Oh my gosh - it's already 3pm!!! WOW - where did the morning go??!! I hate it when the Huz is sick and I have to do all his chores!! :gaah: LOL!

Okay - off to see what else is happening around here!
Take care everyone!!

This must be the month for animals issues. :gaah: Hopefully September will bring an end to it!!!!!

I've always had my questions about heartworm. I've never had a dog with it, and never given any of my dogs preventatives for it.
What makes mosquitoes of the last 25-30 years capable of giving canines this? And it seems it's always short haired dogs.
And why are dogs living shorter lives than they did 40 years ago?
Why are there more problems with spinal compression or general vertebra displacement in our critters? It's weird, it seems to come up a lot, dogs and horses. And breaks in bones, like kitties, those critters have alway been so indestructible, with the exception of cars and a pack of coyotes.

So many questions.

Is it food, genetics, vaccinations, supplements, worming, spaying, neutering, gelding, creating a more coddled environment?

Just going back and catching up on some posts I missed. So Bernina, you don't give your dogs heart worm meds? I do even though I fear they may be bad for him, yet I'm afraid not to give them to him because if he got heart worms I would never forgive myself. It's one of those catch 22, between a rock and a hard place situations for me. :gaah: I did find a collar for flea/ticks and am going to stop giving him the other flea/tick medicines on the skin or oral, those really worry me. I mean if it's strong enough to kill fleas and ticks what does it do to his little doggy body ? :(

I think you may be onto something here, Bernina. Kind of like how they don't want to give us too many antibiotics because we become resistant to them and they don't work? My son had a black lab hat supposedly had heatworms. After the initial treatment he never gave him monthly pills, and the dog lived a healthy, hairy life for at least another ten years. Did he really have heatworms? We don't know.

I kmow when my kids were little our dogs rarely had any problems, lived a good 15 years or more, and fleas were easy to get rid of with baths, and occasionally a flea collar (I have heard too many bad things about the, so hesitate to try them now ..... does anyone use them, and if so, what brand?). Now, it seems everyone's dog has skin issues, or food into, erances, or allergies, or other maladies that are costly. I wonder sometimes if it is the food.... we used to give all our dogs basic Purina and nothing else. Now the vets want us to feed pricey prescription foods that I cannot afford. Have we bred all their tolerance out of them?

The only shots my dogs get are their rabies because that is required to get their licenses. I do use liquid flea/eggs med occasionally, but not every month. Overall, except for one instance of bladder stones in one dog, we have not had issues.
