What happens when a ‘social media murder’ suspect wants to go viral

"...Although shocking, it’s not unprecedented for alleged murderers to use social media to to display evidence of their own actions...

Suddenly, social media users used to chasing information were contending with the possibility that the suspect had come to them.

Does anyone else feel like we just collectively made a horrible disgusting leap into the future

That, it seems, has triggered concerns that this might not be the last time an alleged gunman takes to social media in an attempt to go viral.

We can only hope that this use of social media does not become common place for shooters

American exceptionalism and the ‘exceptionally American’ problem of mass shootings

"On Sunday, criminal justice professor Adam Lankford stood in front of a crowd of sociologists to explain how American culture contributes to the all-too-frequent American mass shootings. It’s not just that we have a lot of guns, he said — though he does believe that the high rates of firearm ownership are partially to blame. It’s the social strains of American life — the false promise of the American dream, which guarantees a level of success that can’t always be achieved through hard work and sheer willpower; the devotion to individualism and the desire for fame or notoriety.

Millions of Americans feel these strains and never commit a crime. But for a small handful, they breed the kind of resentment and fury that can explode into violence..."

Why The Shootings Will Continue

"...The right way to approach this issue is different than what we are doing. First, we need to realize that high profile events are high profile because they are unlikely. And trying to stop an unlikely event is very difficult if not impossible. Predicting a public mass shooting is a bit like predicting where lighting is going to strike the ground. There are some generic indicators but nothing that can act as an actual alarm bell..."

Another Week, Another Mass Shooting

"...Serious gun control efforts in the U.S. are doomed and always have been -- and not just because of the power of the NRA or because of the Second Amendment. Guns are so enmeshed in American history, so much a part of our cultural DNA, that there will never be truly meaningful gun control in the U.S. Advocates of gun control don't seem to understand that and don't seem to appreciate the continuing, cross-generational impact of our founding national story.

One main reason we rebelled against the British was their attempt to take away our guns..."

Police: Md. woman faces murder charges, intentionally overdosed 5-year-old son

"...According to police, Daniel's death was not the result of a car crash. Instead, police say that Shafeirad intentionally had her son overdose on diphenhydramine, a common ingredient in Benadryl, by forcing him to drink from a bottle.

Police also say the woman used gasoline to light the car on fire."

I'm a Diplomat - the Mediator.... Huh?

Well, my husband says that's absolutely right, I'm not too sure. Maybe he knows me better than I know myself, LOL.

I think it's good to be a Mediator- "INFP personalities are true idealists, always looking for the hint of good in even the worst of people and events, searching for ways to make things better..."

This is one serial killer I'm really not familiar with but would like to learn more. It sounds like it has the potential to be a very good film, especially with DiCaprio. My favorite one with him is Shutter Island, have you seen that one? :scared:

I read the book and have seen the movie Shutter Island- both excellent, IMO.

I have read about H.H. Holmes in my research on serial killers and remorse. No remorse from him -a truly evil man, IMO.
Lots of stuff about him:

Here's the Wiki for H. H. Holmes

"Herman Webster Mudgett (May 16, 1861 – May 7, 1896), better known under the name of Dr. Henry Howard Holmes or just H. H. Holmes, was one of the first documented serial killers in the modern sense of the term.[1][2] In Chicago at the time of the 1893 World's Columbian Exposition, Holmes opened a hotel which he had designed and built for himself specifically with murder in mind, and which was the location of many of his murders. While he confessed to 27 murders, of which nine were confirmed, his actual body count could be over 200.[3] He brought an unknown number of his victims to his World's Fair Hotel, located about 3 miles (4.8 km) west of the fair, which was held in Jackson Park..."

And some articles:

The Master of the Murder Castle
A classic of Chicago crime

"Viewed from the outside, the murder castle was simply a big ungainly building, one of the architectural monstrosities common in the nineties. But its interior, honeycombed with trap doors and secret passageways and walled-up rooms, was the fulfillment of every small boy’s dream of a haunted house..."

Typology of Serial Killers and some myths debunked

"Hedonistic Profit Serial Killers

H.H. Holmes

Hedonistic Profit serial killers, also known as “comfort killers,” kill with the specific motive of material gain. Most incarcerated female serial killers fall into this category and are referred to as “Black Widows.” Unlike many other types of serial killer, a Profit killer generally knows their victim very well. The murders are very well planned and the killer can easily wait long periods of time between kills so as to avoid the suspicion of law enforcement or family. The method of murder is generally poisoning with a chemical that is either unlikely to be found in the system or is hard to find for the general public. In this category there are killers who kill spouses for insurance money or inheritance, women who kill their children to cut on living expenses, and those who have “Munchausen by proxy,” a rare type of personality in which one intentionally harms another person to gain sympathy for the loved ones illness or death. One of America’s first known serial killers was a Profit killer named Herman Webster Mudgett, better known as H.H. Holmes. He killed many people in his “World’s Fair” hotel which was a building specifically designed for murder. Another Hedonistic Profit serial killer was Diana Lumbrera, who murdered her own six children in order to collect insurance money..."

A sixteen year-old boy came home with a new Chevrolet Avalanche and his parents began to yell and scream, "Where did you get that truck?!"
He calmly told them, "I bought it today." "With what money?" demanded his parents. They knew what a Chevrolet Avalanche cost.
"Well," said the boy, "this one cost me just fifteen dollars." So the parents began to yell even louder. "Who would sell a truck like that for fifteen dollars?" they said. "It was the lady up the street," said the boy. I don"t know her name - they just moved in. She saw me ride past on my bike and asked me if I wanted to buy a Chevrolet Avalanche for fifteen dollars."
"Oh my Goodness!," moaned the mother, "she must be a child abuser. Who knows what she will do next? John, you go right up there and see what"s going on."
So the boy"s father walked up the street to the house where the lady lived and found her out in the yard calmly planting petunias!
He introduced himself as the father of the boy to whom she had sold a new Chevrolet Avalanche for fifteen dollars and demanded to know why she did it.
"Well," she said, "this morning I got a phone call from my husband. "I thought he was on a business trip, but learned from a friend he had run off to Hawaii with his mistress and really doesn"t intend to come back." "He claimed he was stranded and needed cash, and asked me to sell his new Chevrolet Avalanche and send him the money. So I did."

Don't worry, I would drive you all...
and I think we can all feel safe as we already have a commander, an adventurer, an advocate, a mediator, a sentinel, and a campaigner on board - haha, this would be a funny movie - anyone would write the scenario?
You could, GigiG, couldn't you???

YorN:

Titers!!!!

Yes, this is EXACTLY how vets can tell the concentration of a vaccine in your pup's body. I learned a lot about that when I first started researching wolfdogs, specifically the rabies vacc. (The CDC discounts the use of titers to evaluate the level of protection!!!! OMG)
Cocker Spaniels showed non-protective levels at < 3 years after the vaccine.
Wolfdogs still had protective levels at 7 years after the vaccine, many at 10 years.
20 years ago, the Wolf Dog Alliance was all hot to trot about doing a study with a vet back East. I volunteered to have my WD, Meisha, to be used as part of the study. They were so disorganized, the first round of titers my vet did went absolutely nowhere after she sent it in. Chapped my hide cause I paid for the testing.
The irony is that a species of wolf in Ethiopia actually contracts rabies from domestic dogs, along with distemper. Figure that out.
Now it's common to give horses rabies shots.............why don't Dr.s just give people rabies vaccs then? It's all about "just in case". I can't find an accurate number of horse cases, the high end is 100 horses affected by rabies every year. If there was a epidemic of cases, I could see justification, but it seems that the horses affected were stalled horses. The most current number of horses in the US I could find was from 2007, over 9.5 million horses. Does the 100 horses contracting rabies justify a billion dollar industry generated from vaccinating every single horse?

IMO: It's overkill and all about $$$$$. It's pretty scary when your pet or livestock is given a vaccination and you have to watch them for 15 minutes in case they go into anaphylactic shock.

My horses are vaccinated for rabies because of the raccoon and possum rabid population. They get Potomac Horse Fever vaccine too along with the 4 in 1 and strangles as I have been there, done that. Your horses and dogs have the perfect living environment and probably don't need half the ones mine get, if any. Look how well the EHV1 vaccine worked with my mares resulting in the loss of two fillies. The Fort Dodge people are supposed to reimburse me for the necropsies, and I have yet to see a check. Some of this preventative stuff is ridiculous.
