Yeah, I read that story, too. WTH? How does that make any sense? Children -- by definition -- are loved by their MOTHERS. That's a given. Even if you think the rest of the world doesn't love them, YOU DO -- that's your job!!!
But, okay, you're right. There's obviously some mental illness going on here. I am sad for those two little boys, and I hope this woman gets the help she needs. Still, how can so many innocent children keep falling through the cracks???
All I know is that some of the antidepressants and anti anxiety meds can REALLY mess up your head.
I was put on Remeron and the 1st day I took it, it was like a BAD acid trip. Everything was MELTING, and it was NOT a cool thing, very, very bad. Threw out the bottle. Prozac worked for 6 weeks and then tanked the next 6, doc doubled the dose (from 20mg-40), up then down, increased by 20 mg more, up, down, increase by 20, up, down, and straight to the nut hut for 3 1/2 weeks (was on Prozac for a year). Cymbalta was just existing, no motivation, totally disinterested, very depressed, felt like I was "toxic", I called it rat poison. Doc kept increasing that too. Got off it cold turkey after a year, doc had me on twice the therapeutic level.
Some meds can bring on psychosis. Everybody's metabolism is different.
I really believe that most people who kill their children have got to have a mental disorder. Granted, there are few that are just evil, whether to spite a significant other or just relieve themselves of a burden, but if you've been on the "crazy train"..............your mind can go to some really terrible places, horrific things seem necessary, and can be incredibly influenced by religious ideology/good vs. evil.
I watched my ex go through that, many, many times. It is the most frightening, helpless situations I've ever been through. He always was suicidal, not homicidal, but anything could have flipped the switch.
This mom will not see any light at the end of the tunnel, whether it's incompetency, guilty but insane......she'll be in prison or institutionalized for the rest of her life. It's Arizona.
People who are sane play the intruder/carjacker/kidnapper card. People who are mentally challenged come right out and tell you they did it and why....because in their head it was rational.
JMO and experience.
The Holmes theatre shooting case delved into his mental issues too. It was an interesting case to follow because most people agreed he had mental issues. He tried to use the insanity defense and he was found guilty because the LEGAL definition of that defense was ruled not to apply to him even though he did have some mental issues.
It showed how complex mental issues are. I think the courts got it right in his case. He had mental issues but they were not to the level where he did not know right from wrong when he planned his murderous activities. He had chances to stop himself and yet he proceeded.
So its an interesting case. Because his mental issues started him down the path to commit the crimes to begin with and yet he knew enough that it was wrong to do it. And did it anyway.
It is too bad that modern day medicines have not solved mental issues for people. They are very complex and there are all types and levels of disorders. We have come a long way but still so much further to go.
I'm with you there.
And what about cases where the suspect refuses to take their meds? How accountable can we hold them?
I wonder if medical professionals have thought about a no fuss, no muss type of drug transmission similar to Norplants, where a patient could get a continual dose over a period of 5-7 years. But, the biggest reason people go off their meds is the side effects, "fogginess", not being "real", if that makes sense, being put in a zombie type state. It's pretty common for people who are bipolar and/or schizophrenic in the more severe range. They are more apt to self medicate.
It's a really tough area.
Then there's the public's perception of "Mental Illness". We're not all bat chit crazy because our illness has been classified as "Mental", lol!

Below is a link I found to some of the atrocities that doctors themselves did to patients at Creedmore. Its no wonder the kids on my bus came up with the stories they told. Some of it must have been based on true stories they also had heard about.

OMG.
LSD, speed........for children?
Giving schizophrenics, of all things, LSD?!?!?!?!?!
WTH.
I was heavily into "mind altering drugs" between 16 and 17. I KNEW what they could do. I KNEW what state of mind I had to be in or NOT be in. I KNEW who I should be around, or NOT be around, where I'd feel "safe" as opposed to "scared.
But it was under the controlled conditions I chose.
Putting kids in a dark room with a stranger, not explaining what they're going to possibly experience, that would make a normal person experience psychosis. Schizophrenic people are already ON an altered plain of reality. LDS, mescaline, and the like, make one susceptible to any type of suggestion. I would consider those the most effective drugs for breaking a person down and brain washing them.
That Dr. went far, far beyond "child abuse". I can't even come up with a word that describes my revulsion.
