Thanks, everyone, for your concerns - they are very much appreciated.

Nothing much to report, but I was admitted last Wednesday, released late Saturday and wasn't able to drive until Sunday due to the anesthetic. I had a few (not sure if that's just two or possibly more as I didn't want to ask) biopsies taken for testing of which I won't know the results for another 2-3 weeks. Needless to say, I was poked and prodded, had many tests and my stomach area is still very tender and sore. I must say, my dignity is all but gone!!!

Gigi, I hope your son-in-law's dad will recover from this. I too had my entire skull busted up years ago. It looked just like a busted windshield - it's the only way I can describe it. It did, however, take many years to heal. I don't know why it took so long to heal, but I still have to undergo a cat scan and an EEG every two years now, whereas, they used to be yearly up until a few years ago. This all started in 1987. Oh, and my personality changed drastically - completely different person now than I was before the accident. And Gigi, I thought I was the only one who had never sued anyone!

Thanks for the Think Like a Doctor article - my leg hair disappeared about two years ago and I hate going to doctors, so guess maybe I should mention this the next time I do go!

I signed them a month ago? 220,000 signatures if I remember were collected. If the horses ARE moved, there's a good possibility they will be moved up in my area. The headwaters of the Verde river is the only place near Prescott where the is water running year round. It's 3 miles away as the crow flies from me. It's checker boarded with BLM, Forest, State Land Trust, and open range. They'd do really well there, far away from highways, remote, and other than random fisherman who have to walk or 4 wheel drive to the river, it's pretty quiet.
The Verde River actually converges with the Salt River as it heads down towards Phoenix.

It's kinda of frustrating about what the forest service is claiming. Granted, a few of the horses look domestic, but many have the classic phenotype of mustangs found in Nevada and Utah. The mustang mare that Evey has on my property is a classic example. She was caught out of Nevada, has the classic head, stout body, short legs, and has that "paddle" type gait that came from the Spanish horses.
You can look into her eyes and there's that glint of a survivor under the hardest conditions. She's an incredibly "easy keeper", might as well be living off air! And SMART. Incredibly smart.

What's really strange is Star has always HATED dogs to the point of stomping them, even Evey's dog, a lab mix. She was pretty concerned about that moving her here, and I even put extra fencing up so the my dogs couldn't get in with her............weird thing is, they get along. Yesterday, Evey was washing Star, and Poquita was "helping" dry off her back legs......so after 14 years, Star has find some new buds of the woof persuasion that she really likes being around.

There's so much we don't know about the brain! About ten years ago, my ex-husband was complaining about headaches, vision and hearing problems, among other things (can't remember all of them). It was enough to raise concerns in my mind about him having a brain tumor. He went to the doctor and sure enough, there was a small, non-malignant tumor behind one of his ears.

He elected to have surgery, but I don't think any of us were prepared for the outcome. It took him a long time to learn to walk steadily and not look like a drunk (equilibrium). He has also lost most of his hearing in that ear.

BUT, the biggest thing was the change in his personality! Where he was previously outgoing and polite, he became really outspoken and sometimes rude. Be they good or bad, his emotions are barely held in check. He also developed memory issues, so he'll repeat things over and over again. Agh!

But, as I tell our kids, even though he's not the same dad, he's still your dad. We love him anyway.

ETA: I also lost my longtime (10+ years) boyfriend to complications from a TBI (a few years ago), so I am familiar with the repercussions. But can you imagine what our wounded vets and their families go through? They're so young. It breaks my heart.

There have been shenanigans for years with the Forest Service and the Bureau of Land Management. I don't trust them, nor their stated objectives.

Just want to make people aware that there are MULTIPLE petitions (I think the one you specifically referred to was the one on Change.org). I firmly believe that when it comes to a cause you believe in, signing each and every one gives more weight to the issue, and makes politicos more aware of public opinion. Posting on Facebook sites helps as well.

It will take some educating as the wolf range moves into this area in the next 10 years............"Little Red Riding Hood" should have a disclaimer at the beginning of the book. The number of true wolf attacks in the US is incredibly insignificant, and ranchers are too lazy to utilize the groups who offer repellents and no kill options. Honestly, when it comes to cattle, they're all pretty dumb when you stick them out on the range. If cattlemen really want to raise "meat", they should re-introduce the buffalo, they don't walk away from their newborn calves and they certainly are a herd to reckon with when wolves get hungry and go after the young.

Your post reminded me of how difficult it is for most people to discern the difference between buffalo and bison. After all, bison shows up on restaurant menus fairly regularly.

Also, regarding wolves, from wikipedia:

To me, it's the equivalent of xenophobia, except for substituting animals. People shouldn't hate what they know not of; they should seek to educate themselves to better understand the reality of things, which might help them appreciate cultural differences.

But, be they "others" in terms of "not from my tribe" kind of people, or animals that they fear for largely wrong-minded reasons, I wish they would all get a grip. Live and let live. JMO.

Oh my goodness! reading about your husband gave me a flashback to an article I read in The New York Times Magazine a year ago.

This guy's symptoms were very perplexing to medical professionals. A partial list of their guesses regarding possible causes were: environmental poisoning, renal cancer, Lyme disease, Lambert-Eaton Syndrome, and Pernicious anemia.

In the end, it wasn't just a B-12 deficiency, but an underlying copper deficiency as well. He also had celiac disease, which damaged his ability to absorb nutrients.

Don't know if any of this applies to your husband, but it does give some insight into why it took so long to get a proper diagnosis.

Wishing him a speedy recovery now that the problem has been identified!

Beyond Facebook

I am trying to make friends outside of Facebook, while applying the same principles.

Therefore every day, I go to the street and tell a passer-by what I have eaten, how I feel, what I have done the night before and what I will do after.

I give them pictures of my wife, my daughter, my dog and me gardening and spending time in my pool.

I also listen to their conversations and tell them I love them.

And it works: I already have 3 people following me:

2 police officers and a psychiatrist.

An old Geezer

An old Geezer, who had been a retired farmer for a long time, became very bored and decided to open a medical clinic. He put a sign up outside that said: Dr. Geezers's

clinic. "Get your treatment for $500, if not cured get back $1,000."

Doctor "Young," who was positive that this old geezer didn't know beans about medicine, thought this would be a great opportunity to get $1,000. So he went to Dr. Geezers's clinic.

This is what transpired.

Dr. Young: --- "Dr. Geezer, I have lost all taste in my mouth. Can you please help me?”

Dr. Geezer: --- "Nurse, please bring medicine from box 22 and put 3 drops in Dr. Young's mouth."

Dr. Young: --- “Aaagh! -- This is Gasoline!"

Dr. Geezer: "Congratulations! You've got your taste back. That will be $500."


Dr. Young gets annoyed and goes back after a couple of days figuring to recover his money.

Dr Young: "I have lost my memory, I cannot remember anything."

Dr. Geezer: "Nurse, please bring medicine from box 22 and put 3 drops in the patient's mouth."

Doctor Young: "Oh no you don't, -- that is Gasoline!"

Dr. Geezer: "Congratulations! You've got your memory back. That will be $500."


Dr. Young (after having lost $1000) leaves angrily and comes back after several more days.


Dr. Young: "My eyesight has become weak --- I can hardly see!

Dr. Geezer: "Well, I don't have any medicine for that so -- " Here's your $1000 back."

Dr. Young: "But this is only $500..."

Dr. Geezer: "Congratulations! You got your vision back! That will be $500."

Moral of story -- Just because you're "Young" doesn't mean that you can outsmart an old "Geezer !
