Niner - I've heard the prices for the Open today have drastically dropped from thousands of dollars to practically giving them away. The world wanted to watch Serena. I wonder how many will even go to see the 2 Italians? I'll watch but not too excited.

I just heard about that on tv , too. They said there might be much less spectators...

Hmm, I think Penetta & Vinci are really great sportsladies and it's a big achievement for them playing the final today. For me it was wonderful to see Vinci's joy and happiness yesterday. I love tennis, smart play stragedies and fairness. VIP or not VIP is of no importance for me. Is a good player really a good player if she/he is a bad looser???
I'm afraid the world of sports obviously and unfortunately is a copie of the dominating values in our actual society...

I was thinking after reading some of the posts and the "peaceful quiet" was "shock", like a "shock wave". Took me a while to find the right word, still doesn't totally describe it.
It affected everything. Like the core of the earth was put on pause.
Hope that makes better sense........still searching my head..........just something I've never experienced.

When we go to our cabin in east Texas we never see planes. We are not in any flight paths and would be surprised to see any. It's nice to not have any noise. At night I'm always amazed at how many stars we can see. When we're packing up to come back home. Thirty minutes to the interstate, and then almost bumper to bumper traffic the last ninety minutes the closer you get back to Dallas, and the noise. And people. At times I hate being around people. The're rude and have rude children, no matter where you go. When we first built the cabin, the people in the towns around us were polite and friendly and we loved the small town feel.

When we were building the cabin we were also redoing my kitchen and had left a saw we need behind, so we take off for the cabin in evening rush hour traffic and get there around eight thirty grab the saw and call back home to see if anyone wants anything from the all night donut store in town (it was opened at nights for the truckers that carried milk from the farms from all over) because they had the best donuts, eclairs, and bearclaws the size of bearclaws as big as coffee's bear feet, and my niece asked for a DQ hamburger (almost every small town in Texas has a Dairy Queen), and I told her she could get one in town. When we left out of the back gate there was a deer crossing the road and we slowed down and it walked on by. An amazing sight.

We had a baby buck that showed up one day and stayed for around the summer. It loved one of my nephews and would follow him every where, even trying to get on the boat, and if he laid down out in the grass it would lay next to him.

I think Susza has a fine sense of humor to be sticking around here. You were fine, Dmacky. When the bus stops, Susza might make us wait across the river for her, but we will save her seat until she comes across. :giggle:

Well, I was thinking about building a hanging bridge especially for your arrival. When I was living in Bariloche/Patagonia, I accompanied my neighbour - an architect specialized in building hanging bridges - to the huge property of Silvester Stallone where he had to do some reparation work on the bridges he had built there. I thought about asking this buddy to help me BUT... as several of you "gets the creeps" (???) by the sole idea of crossing a bridge I decided to adopt the Tarzan-method: you'll swing over the bridge and get a yummie yummie brunch.
We would then kayak down the river until we arrive at my handsome neighbour's ranch... he is famous for (not only) his delicious apple pie with vanilla sauce but he also has a select wine cellar. He will generously allow us to take his horses so that we could have a peaceful horse ride back home and enjoy an endless thai dinner.
For those of you who prefer a more contemplative way of travelling, special kayak and horse trolleys/caddies are being built so that you can just sit down and enjoy the paradise landscape passing by...

Anyone left interested to pass by my cabin to pick me up for THE bus trip???? :)[/QUOTE]

Yes ...... on our side of the river. We'll honk and you can swing right over that bridge to us. Yes, the creeps is correct. We had someone from England during the trial and she used the word "presenting" and I asked her what it meant, because Jonbent Ramsey played a game called presenting for modeling and if it was the same. She said it was like the models on game shows that would point out the prizes.

Good morning, just barely!

Niner ... the tennis channel shows reruns nightly of the matches, so set your recorder so you can watch it later. Actually it's a repeat on ESPN right now - 7PM your time.

I have to say I wasn't impressed with Serena's interview after she lost. A sore loser indeed. Hold your head up high, Serena, and be thankful of your talents and the public for supporting and enjoying watching you play for all these years.

Well, you finally came around?! She is very nasty to fans, as I've said before, as my BIL and Sister have seen her interactions with the fans - not good!

I hate hate hate shoes. I've gone barefoot all my life and have worn shoes only under protest. I have five pairs of shoes in the car and three of them are houseshoes. On our trip we don't have to wear shoes. Or bras.

I like the no bras!! Same here, as soon as I'm home from somewhere - off with the bra! and I'm  at coffeejunkie's joke on the bra sizes! I always wondered.... :waitasec: LOL!

OJ Simpson appeal rejected by Nevada Supreme Court
There will be no new trial for OJ Simpson, currently serving 9 to 33 years in prison for a botched hotel room heist.

LAS VEGAS (AP) - A lawyer for O.J. Simpson said Friday they'll decide their next step after the Nevada Supreme Court rejected the imprisoned former football star's latest appeal of his 2008 kidnapping and armed robbery conviction.

Attorney Patricia Palm said she needed to talk with Simpson at Lovelock Correctional Center about the Thursday ruling by a three-member panel of the state high court, and whether he wants to appeal to federal court.

:happydance: At least he's serving SOME time in jail :jail: for the murderer....

You're right - no "right" word to explain that day and the experience/emotions left on us! To the 2,977 people who died that day.

Oh I have to say - this picture reminds of the night of the "Meet & Greet" at the Song Festival - I was saving a table for our friends, and the table across from us sat all these, I'd say "teens" and once they all sat down, ALL of them started texting on their phones!! LOL! Don't know if they were texting the person next to them, but it was a weird sight!

Susza

I must tell you that my very dear friend of 40 years in from Germany. She fell in love with a low life US service man during the war and he brought her and her young son to the US. She had another child and the low life left her high and dry. She barley spoke English and no job skills and 2 small children to raise. That women cleaned houses for years, learned the English language , became a US citizen and was one of the first group of women who was hired in the US to work in coal mines! She is a gem!! To this day she has her German accent and when we go out together people still cannot understand her. LOL They usually look at me and I tell them what she said :)

I feel like I know your country, your customs, she has told me so many stories and show me so many pictures. She still goes back 'home' every 5 years and her sister lives in NY.

She is a true blond, light skinned German Women! I love her :) I will ask her about the Holtzemfromfloppen bra hehe

Can she cook! Great German food :) The desserts are out of this world!!!!

You wait until you get home? Mine is off as soon as I get in the car. I can have it off in fifteen seconds. We don't have any trains to whistle in the distance. And when you're out there it's dark. And I mean dark. The only "light" is from the moon. I love to see the supermoons come up at night. It's right over the lake and fills the sky. I hope this is small. I don't know how to make them thumbnails.

That is absolutely beautiful! If I didn't know it was in Texas, I would think it was in New England or upstate NY.

Some random thoughts:

If you don't wear shoes, I'm assuming the weather is warm enough to go barefoot year-round? How wonderful! I am green with envy about both the cabin AND the weather you have.

As for the bra thing, I know that it really limits my social life, since once it's off I'm not putting it back on unless and until I NEED to go somewhere. Turn down a lot of opportunities to do things just due to that.

I have to say, I live the perfect distance from train tracks. They're not so close that they're a distraction. Just far enough away to be a comforting, distant sound in the middle of the night. I love them!

and that's a BIG YES to the cabin!! We can all go and soak in the hot tub, maybe see a bear or two :)

Our cabin is in the piney woods of Texas. Just think how Washington DC is in the summer year round. Our cabin is ahead in that photo, you can almost see the gazbo in the trees.

In Texas weather in the winter you may have freezing rain and snow and the next day it's in the seventies which is shorts and flip fops. You don't put your summer clothes up, but you do your winter ones in the summer. We had a snow storm move in one morning and had about two feet of snow, and it was gone by afternoon. You could hardly see any snow left. We had friends move down here from Wisconsin and they took pictures of themselves in bathing suits by the pool in February to send back home. It was eighty degrees.

Once I get home I change to my caftans, "housedresses", and bathrobes. I only wear shoes outside when the squirrels are testing the green pecans (we have nine pecan trees), and throwing then down in sharp shards that hurt like the dickens. They're mean little suckers. They will pelt you with them when you go outside, of course dh and his bb gun hasn't helped.

Although I prefer warm weather, summers in DC are really oppressive. So hot and humid, although this year wasn't too bad. Is the humidity bad down there?

Still, I'm growing so weary of cold winters, especially snow. I've lived here all my life, and could swear that winters used to be a lot milder. Maybe I'm thinking of when I was growing up and was disappointed that they didn't cancel school every time it snowed. They do now, but I think it might have more to do with the heavy traffic congestion.

I really will have to make my way down to Texas at some point. Don't have much interest in the Dallas area (if that's where that scary highway video you shared was from), but have always been intrigued by Austin, San Antonio, and the Corpus Christi/Gulf coast area. Am I being fooled by what I see online, or are those places as cool as they seem?

TIA

GigiG, you haven't given us a sightseeing trip around DC. I was there in 2005 and 2006 and we stayed at a hotel out in Alexandria, but I can't remember the name. I know we took a hotel shuttle to and from the airport and to Pentagon City? Mall to catch the Metro to go to DC. We went to the Natural Gallery of Art Museum? and across the street to a pub/restaurant that had bottles of senators and congress members. Or was that a different museum? I remember it had the Toulouse-Lautrec's exhibit in our 2005 trip. The visit to the Holocaust Museum was heart wrenching.

And we took the White House tour in 2006 right after it was reopened, and missed seeing the Spy Museum by one day. So GigiG show and tell us about your city and our nations capital. And please explain to us the way and reason why some taxi's can't go to certain places.

for some crazy reason WB is not posting the quotes right for me...or maybe it is me that's not doing it right!

Ok found the thumb drive that had the pics of the remodel of the inside cabin in 2012 that were sent to us. I make the pics smaller and grouped them into one pic for space.
