Millions Of People Are In Love With This Elderly Man Waiting At The Airport

The cutest thing you’ll see all day.

How I Became a Helicopter Daughter

"...There is one important difference, though, between being a helicopter mom and a helicopter daughter: Overcaring for a child is bad for the child, but overcaring for an elderly parent is not bad for the parent. Being overly vigilant may not extend a parent’s life, but it can improve it..."

Introduction to our newest family member SQUEAKER 14 weeks old weighing in at 2lbs 7 oz. We were interviewed last week. Drove Indy met the breeder, had all our references checked they and called this morning and met us half way. He comes from a full line of grand champion Yorkies. We are in totally in love with him!! Now he does has a full long name but, we like Squeaker, Squeak for short. He's already puppy pad trained and has peed each time on his pad. He's eating well, drinking water and full of energy that little tail never stops wagging. He's a keeper for sure :)

:congrats: on finding your adorable Squeaker!

LOL@ ACROSS the river! I hope she comes over to the friend and family side of the River to get us too Spell...as most of us hate bridges!

I'm glad she does have a good sense of humor, because I am ALWAYS the one who will somehow find humor.
I think from my rotten childhood, humor was always my escape. I even got best personality and wittiest in my senior year of HS. BUT you know what they say about girls or guys with a "good personality" though....UGLY
Do you all remember back when our friends were trying to fix us up with somebody? They'd say "OHH...he's got a good personality"! And we're like, "BUT WHAT DOES HE LOOK LIKE"??? lol

Zuri Please come to my house ASAP.
I got out all the junk in the kitchen and living room closets and drawers to go through and get rid of CLUTTER. Right after that, my sciatic nerve got all out of whack and now I can't sit down or hardly stand without severe pain! My counters and kitchen and LR floors are covered with JUNK and EMPTY boxes! I can't even bear to look for my kitchen table, I know it's there somewhere. That plan backfired big time. And that happened 3 weeks ago! Every time I walk into my kitchen, where the computer happens to be... I look around and want to go right back to my bedroom and get back in bed on my heating pad!!! :bed:

I am a little tiny bit better this morning, so I'll take that and be grateful!
You made me smile as I am in the same boat that is rapidly sinking. Ice is your friend and the Biofreeze or anything with Camphor. Do you have a brace that can help stabilize your SI joints? And don't forget the pillow under your knees. It sounds as though the Aleve and Motrin aren't working too well, so it may be time for a visit to your MD or chiropractor? I will be there as soon as I can find my front door.

Just briefly catching up. For all my attempts at cleaning, I have viral pneumonia that has taken out my whole right lung and my lower left base. I can't breathe at all. I think it was from all the mold, dirt, dust, dog hair, and all the incredible crud that has been hidden in areas I haven't ventured. Our furnace blew two years ago and left serious layers of dirt that no one in my home has thought to wipe up. We are not ghetto, but we sure look it.

So I am now on breathing treatments every four hours and my pulse ox has gone from 73% to 92 % on 4 liters of oxygen. The Z pack was started today and my Prednisone was increased to 120 mg a day. This is déjà vu from my Swine Flu 6 years ago that kept me hospitalized for over 2 weeks. My DH actually stayed home today to oversee my care as I didn't want to go to the hospital if I can manage it here. Plus he cleaned a lot. :) I just can't breathe, talk, eat or go down the stairs and there is so much work to be done. Oh well. Dmacky and I will just have to endure a couple of rough spots. Fortunately this is not Swine Flu and hopefully things will be better in a week. Gah! I hate delays when I am on a roll. Dang dirt and mold.

On the up side, before all this went down, I was able to bag up quite a bit for the Purple Heart Veterans to come and pick up. I am going to use vinegar, Epsom salts, cream of tarter, hydrogen peroxide, dawn and deodorant on every surface possible as long as CJ keeps feeding me tips. My son's items are packed and ready to be shipped tomorrow by my DH to FL.

I am really looking forward to having you all over once this is all put together. 2016? LOL. I will send the party bus for you all! Xoxo

Well, I'll try this again.

The DFW metroplex cab's have had meters for years. Why did it take DC that long to change?

Ann Rule wrote "The End Of A Dream" about Scott Spurlock that was from Reston Va., and that it was to of been a planned progressive free thinking community. His father a pastor and his mother we're very open to drugs and sex, and lived a life of nudity and brought the kids up around nudist. He was known as the Hollywood Bandit when he robbed several banks in Seattle in the nineties. I thought of him when one of the Boston bombers hid in a camper and was shot. Scott did holed up in a camper in a backyard after a dye pack exploded after a robbery and the police tracked him to it, and the police unloaded upon it. It's a good read. Where is Reston in relation to north south east and west of DC?

We did rent a suv for our 2006 trip to visit friends up in Baltimore and down in Richmond. DH has no trouble driving in traffic and tends to end up in undesirable sections of cities. Of course this is the man that drove my brand new valentine into Mexico legally, and drove back on a railroad trestle/bridge into the US illegally.

Dallas Area Rapid Transit hadn't reached us yet at that time, so the metro pricing from the machine was confusing. The young people were rude. Throwing themselves into seats and never standing up for the elderly, infirmed or pregnant women. Other than that it was on time. The hardest part was getting off the metro after a long day of walking and the escalator at Pentagon City was out, and you had to climb the steps up to street level to catch the hotel shuttle.

I know what you mean about living in a place all your life and never seeing the sights. I've never been to the JFK Memorial or the Sixth Floor at the Book Depository. There are some unpleasant memories of that part of my life. My father didn't make easy on us because of his views and actions. He was on the front page news after Adlia Stevenson speech the month before JFK was killed. I had to get off the bus and walk pass my fellow student the next morning. I don't think I raised my head at all in school from that point on. I always finished my work, and would read to take me to other places.

DC was clean, but there were many sidewalk hawkers selling t shirts and geegaw and were quite aggressive. It was a city I always wanted to visit, but again when I did there is a memory of my father being arrested during a march in front of the White house in the sixties.

Kids coming out of college making big bucks. I made $1.60 an hour at my first job. I think I brought home forty bucks a week. Milk and bread were under a dollar. Our first apartment was $165.00 a month, but it was a two bedroom with two full baths, living room, dining room and kitchen with dishwasher.. For some reason dh and I have always had more room than we really needed. We've had people move from up north and they are surprised about how much house/apartment they get down here. How much do you have to make to pay those high prices up there?

We did venture into Old Town Alexandria and had lunch at a place known for the largest cupcake?

Trivia factoid about Gerogetown for those that don't know - The Exorcist was filmed in several placed in Gerogetown. The Key Bridge; Georgetown University; Dahlgren Chapel; the 75 steps at Prospect and 36th streets that lead down to M Street in Georgetown; the house near the top of the steps on Prospect Street; a bridge over the C&O Canal. The cardinal's office in the film is actually the office of the president of Georgetown University. I had a friend that lived in an apartment close by the steps.

BBM

You've raised so many topics, so I'll try to through in order:

• As to the taxis not being metered until a few years ago? Surprise! It was largely political and resisted up until the last minute when fines were threatened. The biggest issue was that cabbies didn't want to pick up/drop off in SE. Well, SE is quite crime-ridden, so who could blame them. There also was the fact that the old system was so hard to figure out, tourists (and even locals), couldn't make sense of the fare system, so you were at their mercy. So for example, that could take you on a fairly straightforward ride, but veer off into another sector for a block or so (would you know?), thereby charging more money.

• I totally remember the Scott Spurlock story and reading Ann Rule's book about him! How bizarre was that!? Reston, VA was one of the first "planned communities" in the DC area. It's in Fairfax County, which is fairly affluent and has good schools, although with traffic, I consider it to be almost another country. To get there, you'd pretty much have to go out 66-W, which can be backed up at 6am on a Sunday morning. No kidding. Or, you can get there via the Dulles toll road. Either way, no thanks!

• As to your husband as a driver, you must be a saint! I hate driving and appreciate when someone else takes the wheel, but OMG! Very funny, though!

• The DC metro? I can't stand it and totally agree with your assessment. Rude people in a hurry with a total disregard to others around them. I don't know how visitors manage. Good luck finding someone to help you out, since very few people are locals; almost everyone here is from somewhere else. And, they're only here to make money and advance their careers. Not exactly altruistic people.

• Would love more elaboration regarding your dad and the Kennedy assassination, if you'd be comfortable sharing. What did he do to make it into the newspapers?

• I had to laugh that I neglected to mention the street hawkers, though it's really not funny. They are a nuisance, but I have largely become inured to them, so they're barely a blip on my radar. We also (sadly) have an extensive population of homeless people, most of whom suffer from pretty obvious signs of mental illness. There are a few I look out for and offer $$ to when I have some to spare.

• Last thing: Yeah, the cost of living is incredibly high here, so even $65,000 straight out of school barely gets you a one bedroom, probably less than 800 SF, which would probably cost about $2100/mo, though if you're lucky, that might include some utilities. But again, those who get jobs here are very ambitious and aggressive young people. Yeah, those same people who won't give up their seats on the metro. :(

Hi Nore! I hope you are having better luck at posting! Miss you!

Tomorrow will be decision day regarding hospitalization. I spent 33 years working in various hospitals and my standards Re really high as far as health care. Last time I had to teach the nurse how to give Lovenox properly and the difference between a viral culture and and a bacterial culture. I am too old and ornery to do it again.oh yeah, and I am one of those patients that calls the nurse's station when my call bell goes unanswered for 10 minutes and I actually need help ;)

All that dust/dirt is sure to get into your nose/lungs. I always sneeze and my nose runs if I'm tackling too much dust.
Just take care and wear a mask, like the dentist assistants do.
Hope you feel better soon.
Glad your DH is helping. :)

I agree, Zuri, he is an absolutely beautiful creature. The Friesian horses I'm used to, though, look much more like the Budweiser draught horses (Clydesdales). They're quite stocky and have much more of the lovely "fringe" on their lower legs. They also seem to have very calm demeanors, unlike most horses around here, which are off-the-track thoroughbreds. Equally beautiful, but a lot higher maintenance.

Just did a quick google search on Friesians and read that:

"There are two distinct conformation types — the "baroque" type, which has the more robust build of the classical Friesian, and the modern, "sport horse" type, which is finer-boned. Both types are common, though the modern type is currently more popular in the show ring than is the baroque Friesian. However, conformation type is considered less important than correct movement."

I also love these horses because my family on my father's side is from Friesland. My father was a first generation American, so not too far removed. A natural affinity, I guess. :)

When the Fifth Golden Girl Was a Man Named Coco
The pioneering sitcom about four women and their shoulder pads premiered 30 years ago today. It went on to make television better for everyone.

"...The most common thing that’s said about The Golden Girls’s legacy, though, is how progressive the series was—not just for its time, but for this one. The show, Tracey Ross put it, “stands out for being one of the last sitcoms where progressive values were part of the show’s DNA.” It made a point of representing (some of) the Americans who had traditionally been under- and un-represented in mainstream entertainment..."

Please give yourself permission to let things go until you feel better. And even then, take it slow and easy. Also, consider paying someone to do the tedious things and those chores which might cause a relapse.

We love you and need you to take care of yourself and get well. :)

Dangit Zuri!!!!!! You need to wear a mask......or just chill the heck out, lol!

It's close to the 6 week countdown for ol' Kissy to foal (340 days, will she go more? Hmmmmm....), and this morning I noticed she has started to bag up. This time, no baby daddy in the pen, Kissy needs a year long rest, if not several years, I don't need any more babies, and these "stealth encounters" under the moon are NOT going to happen again!

Star, the mustang will be leaving at the end of the month *sniff*. Evey got a fantastic job running a training and boarding facility out in Williamson Valley. She has a 2 bedroom house all to herself, free rent, free board for Star (including the foaling stall and turn out for April's baby date) and her pup and kitty get to go too! Plus, she gets a pretty nice salary. I envy her! The 2 partners that own the place show Arabs and a smaller breed, didn't catch the name, mostly dressage and English, and then there's the borders which Evey says show up several times a week to ride and exercise. It's not a "dump your horse for the winter" kind of place, these borders are year round owners. She has access to security cameras in all the stalls in 2 big barns, the turnouts, pastures, and arena: she the security person 24/7 too.
They have a guy who comes in and does the stalls twice a day, feed is done 3 times a day, manure is put in a dumpster and hauled away, arena dragged twice @ day, it's just a really a well put together place.

We're going to try to arrange to have Kissy moved there after the foal is weaned, and get a solid month of training in her. It's gotten pretty crazy because it was either the weather or Evey's soon to be previous job that messed things up for us. And "Miss Hippo" is hella lazy right now, might as well stick a bowl of bon bons next to her. She is SPOILED!!!! The last few weeks, I put her in the round pen, she goes around 3 times and stops, stares at me like "Seriously?" and demands a treat....gahhhhhh! Same thing if I tack her out, get on her, after the 3rd round, she becomes a MULE, statue time except to look at my leg!

Just take care of yourself Zuri!!!! Everyone seems to be having difficulties right now, and I hope EVERYONE gets relief soon!:loveyou:

The reward for information leading to an arrest and conviction in a string of Phoenix highway shootings now stands at $50,000.

Arizona Department of Public Safety Director Frank Milstead announced at a news conference Monday that the Silent Witness reward has been raised from $20,000.

He says the additional money is coming from the DPS, the Arizona Highway Patrol, the Fraternal Order of Police, the Maricopa County Attorney's Office, the U.S. Marshals Service and other agencies.

Oh thank you my darling GGG. If my house was in any shape to have someone come in and clean it, I would. Right now it is a a hazardous waste site and someone could fall! And yes, I have my N95 masks and gloves and it still got me. It doesn't seem to bother anyone else, but then my lungs, immune system etc are way compromised. I will be sure to pull through. I have 25 cleaning products I have to use up.
