24 Incredible Historical Moments In Photographs

History is truly incredible, the journeys of those that have been here before us are telling, fascinating, and inspiring. While paintings and writings have been used for years to recap events, there is nothing like a photo to tell a story.

As they say, a photo is worth 1,000 words, but some photos are worth so many more words. These historical photos transport you to another place and time, granting a uniquely clear peek into the past.

let her have her 15 mins of fame and move on!! enough is enough IMO

ABC is carrying an exclusive interview today with Rowan County Clerk Kim Davis on Good Morning America.

Kim Davis: I've been called Hitler, hypocrite

Meanwhile, judge examines whether she sabotaged marriage licenses

CNN)
Kim Davis, the Kentucky county clerk who's refused to issue marriage licenses to same-sex couples, says she's been called Hitler, a homophobe and a hypocrite.

"I have been called things and names that I didn't even say when I was in the world," she told ABC in an exclusive interview set to air Tuesday. "Those names don't hurt me."

And in an excerpt from the interview, Davis tearfully said those names don't define her.

"What probably hurts me the worst," she said, "is when someone tells me that my God does not love me or that my God is not happy with me, that I am a hypocrite of a Christian."

Earlier this month, Davis became a political lightning rod, lionized by supporters and slammed by critics, after a federal judge found her in contempt of court and sent her to jail for refusing to perform her duty as county clerk and issue marriage licenses to same-sex couples in Rowan County, Kentucky.

Davis has said her job, which is to issue the licenses, would violate her conscience and go against her religion.

The judge released her from jail on September 8, saying he was satisfied her deputies had fulfilled her office's obligations to issue the licenses. But his order also said Davis cannot interfere with her deputies issuing marriage licenses to all legally eligible couples.

Since Davis returned to work, questions have loomed over whether licenses issued by the office are valid, with critics accusing her of trying to skirt the court's order by changing the documents.

In a federal court filing last week, a deputy clerk in the office said Davis had removed her name, the name of the county or any reference to a clerk or deputy clerk from the licenses. Those changes, the court filing said, make the deputy clerk worry he's issuing invalid licenses. Lawyers representing same-sex couples for the American Civil Liberty Union also argue the changes "call into question the validity of the marriage licenses issued" and "create an unconstitutional two-tier system of marriage licenses issued in Kentucky."

Mat Staver, an attorney for Davis, has said she hasn't interfered with the deputy clerk's issuance of licenses or circumvented the court's order.

No FIL came here, I believe, if I'm remembering correctly - like 1920s, early. He migrated to the San Jose area. His mother's father came over in 1910 from Switzerland. And his father's father is from Germany, but I couldn't even find his first name, only his wife's. I believe it was Susza who tried to find more for me on him, but alas, nothing! :(

Haven't found any skeltons in mine yet, or at least no one wrote it down! LOL!

edited to add: off to cruize around WS! See you all before I log off for the night! :pcguru: :seeya:

Thank you, Niner, for the infos you pm-ed me. I went on the website of the city of Baden-Baden and found a form to fill out for those who need a birth cert. I filled it out as far as I could but they ask for the complete birth date - and we only have Sophias birth year. They also seem to want a prove that the person who fills out the request belongs to the family. Hmm, difficult for me ;)
Anyway, it'll be easier for me to call them and explain. I'll do my best to speak their dialect so that they treat me like one of their's. As soon as I will have talked to them I'll let you know.

BBM - I'm really confused about your emphasis on "again". It sounds as if I hadn't done something I had promised to do but I do not remember having received any info concerning your research about Sophia/her parents ever before . Or am I on an advanced stade of Alzheimer? ;)

Actually I'm not living in Germany any more but in Geneva. I was born and grew up there (about 60 km from Baden-Baden). I go back there to be with my parents about once a month and we spend the week-end together. If ever it would be necessary I would try to go there already on a friday afternoon, drive up to Baden-Baden and talk to the person in charge of the city administration center. There MUST be a way to get the infos you wish to have.
