SIDEBAR #6- Arias/Alexander forum

AZLaywer was down in the Chat Room yesterday talking about this. She pointed out that the procedure in the event of a hung jury was not part of the jury instructions, so she thought it was entirely reasonable that the foreperson really didn't know what would happen if they were hung.

Thanks and wow. I don't understand why DP juries wouldn't be given that info. Makes me wonder all the more how many jurors knew. Knowing might have made a difference in either direction. The 8 going for life rather than have the family go through this again. The 3 more willing to go for death rather than be hung. A greater majority insisting on continuing deliberations, putting pressure on 18. How would any of that been bad?

The ultimate irony imo is that the horrific nature of the crime is apparently mitigating, at least to Mr. Foreman who wonders why such a "normal" 27 yo law abiding young woman could possibly commit such a brutal murder. He contends her "life trajectory" abruptly changed when she met TA. I'd like to know why anyone, given the particular facts in this case, could possibly think another 12 jurors would unamimously give JA the death penalty, because I'm convinced there's no chance no matter what JM does next time.

AND...that was JW's EXACT words when she spoke to the jury.

He fancies himself a savant, as does the CM. He believes HE will get the truth about what happened that day if he talks to the CM. Like he's the "Jodi Whisperer". He's gonna "fix" her...spread her words of wisdom and defend her....translation is: million $ book, and a speaking tour. He's emotionally invested in her BS, OR pretending to be, for his new "breakout career".
When I hear him, I hear the CM and her self serving gum flapping.

BBM:

You are right. This IS VERY alarming. I felt alarmed from his very first interview. He had another agenda (IMO) for getting on this jury. Can we EVER get true justice under this system? I am very concerned. I am starting to like the idea of "professional juries", as other posters have mentioned here. I have had this thought since the CA debacle. It scares me. Maybe all the publicity, televising, interviews etc. should be re-visited. I am happy for the conviction/extreme cruelty ... but feel somewhat deflated and disappointed for the family that THIS jury could not complete. That foreman causes grave concerns for me.

I think this jury provided an avenue for true justice in this case - LWOP in Perryville Prison. Kudos for that, jurors! Seeing pics this week of Scott Peterson in shorts and t-shirt shooting hoops with fellow lifers in CA was sickening, but AZ is a very different place.

I can understand why some jurors might want life without parole, but what I can't understand is WHY the foreman told the other jurors they had to respect each other's opinions and not to sway one another. On the juries I have been on, that is exactly what we did; discussed it, offering new information, challenging someone's not-so-well-thought-out opinion, until we got it right.

I also do not understand his need to grab the limelight, trash Travis Alexander, and be sympathetic to the murderer.

Kinda looks to me like he never took time to watch 12 Angry Men.

I never realized the job of a jury was to listen to testimony, then start "deliberations" by each stating their position, vote to see if they are 100% in agreement, and if it's not quit and go home.

Yes, one wonders where he got that definition of deliberation, for sure. Hopefully, some of the others will speak soon and we'll get a clearer picture of what went on.

Yes... my post wasn't about whether they did their job or not, just whether or not they might have known about what would happen if they were hung.

I understood your post, I was just saying he had no business even wondering about what would happen if they hung. His sole job as a juror and foreman was to REACH a VERDICT!

I'm not yelling at you.... I'm yelling at those 12 jurors!
Lol like they can hear me...

It makes sense to me that perhaps the Jurors were not aware if their vote was split it would cause a mistrial. In my opinion it's best Jurors are not aware. It may influence their decision. Seems the DP issue is a hot debate. We have seen it here on the boards and our own personal discussions. This final verdict or lack of certainly illustrates that. IMO

i would think, if nothing else, mr. foreman would watch the ease with which she lies and realize she ain't RIGHT! the lies roll off her tongue so smoothly, so convincingly. how could a NORMAL person lie like that? and she lied to HIM. she lied to ALL of them. and her lies were intricate and detailed.

she didn't just develop that talent after she met TA, for pete sake!

Glad I went out of town yesterday and couldn't participate in the discussion. I am truly thankful this jury at least found her guilty of 1st degree murder. After listening to the foreman I'm surprised we got that. I don't want to see Arias get the limelight for another month. I hope the family decides to put lwop on the table. Get the spotlight off this killer. She is thriving on all the attention. Off to enjoy the day in Memphis.

I can't think of wonderful place for "nicer" person.......

One very telling comment among others was that Bill Z said there were two Jodis one before June 4 and one after.....WHAAAAAAT?

He conveniently forgot all about the pre-planning of the murder, guns, gas, cell phone?? The stalking? The snooping in emails?

Like I said before....he trashed the prosecution and Travis and gave all the Nurmi/Wilmot/Alyce talking points.

And I have to wonder did he ponder why not one single friend came forward to testify how normal JA was before June 4th? Did he NOT wonder why DB -OR MM were not there to plead for her life? Sister? Brother? Grandmother? What evidence did he hear that JA was any different prior to June 4th?

Yes I agree. I think the foreman would have made an enormous effort to convince the others to vote for life had he known that there would be a mistrial and a new trial. Another shot at death. He thought he could get life for Jodi simply by not reaching a unanimous verdict.

BBM. . .^^^^^This Exactly!!

Made up his mind early, no intention to deliberate. I could just picture him in the jury room as he tells of his mitigating factors to other jurors, "she was abused, no criminal history, she is young, normal young woman, normal to lie (1000xnth power:eek:) when comitting a crime", etc.

I have a few choice words for Mr. Foreman, @#$#%#$^#$%^&.

I bet Bill Z had so much empathy for "Jodi" that he would have argued for manslaughter, but knew he had to go with the majority to avoid a mistrial.

BUT why does he think he has to continue to defend Jodi. I don't get it.

I am hoping and praying some man who runs a MEN'S victim of abuse facility or group will come forward for the State.

All of ALV's man bashing and "men aren't victims of abuse" attitude....is such BS, as we've all said.

I've witnessed abuse by wives/girlfriends of several male friends. Even my current neighbor.
It's true, most men WON'T admit ANY sort of abuse. Men are often subject to being called far worse EVERY single day of their lives. Most of my male friends will NOT admit it, even though I point it out to them.

When they all get together, men call it being "pu**y whipped" and make the :whipper: noise.
They're called worthless, a lousey 🤬🤬🤬, a "pri*k", a "C" word" which I HATE, a good for nothing bum, stupid idiot, a mooch, I make more $ than you, what kind of man are you, you're NOT a man, make fun of sexual "prowess"....ya get the picture.
The defense found "🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬", "3HW", Travis didn't say "please", and we pretty much can count them on one hand, and, IMO, nowhere NEAR abusive.

I've seen dishes, vases, hammers, pictures, pots, pans, a knife whizzing by my head.

Last week, my neighbor was running down the street at 3 am, throwing a bunch of something glass at her husband calling him a effin' 🤬🤬🤬 worthless pu**y.
This past week, she threw a hammer at him, he had to duck and move away...."you want the hammer, here's your hammer!!" He was trying to put together a fence for their garden and she KNEW how to do it better than him. Sweet young guy, NEVER hear HIS voice, just her whiney voice and screaming. Never see any of his friends come over. Saw his father ONCE, her mother lives down the street, and grandmother is next door. He runs around for ALL of them...grass cut, windows, roof in the rain.

At any rate, you can look at his demeanor and see it in his eyes. He's been humiliated in front of the WHOLE neighborhood. She laughed about the 3 am stunt..."guess you heard I was pissed off at John....(laughing)...he's just such an idiot."
I PRAY some self confident man who works with MALE victims of abuse will step forward. If we have to go thru ALV again, IMO, a male who represents domestic abuse on husbands/boyfriends/life partners would certainly help the jury see the REAL course of events.

Do you live on my culdesac ? I have a woman that does the same thing... Usually in the middle of the night, oftentimes dropping or throwing things from the upstairs window, I am frequently awoken by her screaming and the sound of crashing. I call the police... I feel sorry for the guy, tried talking to him once when I knew she wasn't home. He defended her.,.
