We are living in the deep south now and the family doesn't care that much for black eyed peas so I made red beans and rice with andouille sausage (closest I could get to the traditional black eyed peas and rice).

But my mother was Hungarian and she always cooked cabbage rolls for the New Year. Yummy!! My brother still does this every year. I've made it in the past but Mom's traditional way takes almost an entire day to prepare. . . so we save it for really, really giant celebrations.

Crumb-bum. Now I'm hungry.

whhhhaaaaat? hungarian and not cooking lentils for new year's??? my MIL makes them every new year and tells me it is tradition and that I will be rich and beautiful all year if I eat them....maybe that's why it isnt working :floorlaugh:

FCA and her statements regarding Caylee's death not being an accident, but instead she suspected GA murdered her revealed in JA's book is top story on JVM. JA speaking now. I think it's a repeat, although not sure. JVM is still a tad annoying. JMO

LOL, I never ate a lentil until I was an adult. I'm sure your MIL is right and that would explain why I'm so "average," lol. And now I understand why the rest of the family was hiding in the closet eating lentils all those years. . . :floorlaugh:

How about:

"The Winner Takes it All," Abba.

"Everyone's a Winner," Hot Chocolate

"Winning," Santana.

"Nothing's Gonna Stop us Now," Starship.

"I Feel Good," James Brown.

And the hits just keep coming - hear OCA give her personal spin, in a backwards kinda way, to these all time favorites....

Don't know if it is a pie or layered pudding. Looks like there may be sweet potatoes layered in it. Taking a second look at that desert. It looks like it is layered with Nilla waffers not sweet potatoes. We need to ask the chef.

That is the south's famous banana pudding. Looks like our chefmom really is a chefmom!

:waitasec: What are lentils? Jeez - didn't realize so much difference from southerners to northerners as to food as during the trial and before - the spreads and drinks no-one ever mentioned the regional differences and wants :floorlaugh:

They're flattish shaped legumes, usually brown (sometimes pink but they're more expensive) cook quickly and have a rather earthy taste. About the size of a tiny watch battery.

(Can you tell I'm a good eater?) :great:

I love lentils with red sauce and lots of chopped carrots and lets not forget the garlic. So good for you.

My daughter eats them (lentils). I keep telling her she needs to cut down on them, otherwise she'll end up looking like a rabbit.

I have just returned from vacation and going through my mail - JUROR SUMMONS!!! I have been seated 3 times, and always surprised that I am due to what I've seen here as I fit the typical person that is kicked by the DT. (lol, last time I was seated, I sent a note to the judge)...........next thing we knew, they settled! lol - I asked a "legal question" that was relevant to the case........ I will be proud to go/serve, and hopefully, what I have known and learned through this site and before will bear me well. Hopefully, I won't get kicked for being ...........well.........you know what I mean..!

Those are the ones - a flattish legume, brown with an earthy taste, kind of like the paste glue we used in grade 2..:innocent:
