SM as a potential focus of the investigation

It's getting a bit warm in here. Let's be very careful when addressing each other please.

has someone already posted the link to the friend of Terri speaking out again?

http://www.katu.com/news/local/96769584.html?tab=video

I have a bunch to say on it.
first.... she says she went to the gym because she needed to to keep herself healthy and focused.
OK. I know this isn't the same, but when my daughter was a baby she got cancer. I was terrified for her. About 3 days in I saw my sister who reminded me that I had not eaten. I couldn't even think about myself in that situation... I was so worried about my child. (who is now healthy. thank god)

I'm so sorry your family went through that. And happy to hear that it has all turned out for the good!

Another thing the friend said was that all the online talk was damaging. It is not damaging if there is no truth to the accusations. If she has no role in it, she should not have any fear that these comments could damage her innocence.

Respectfully, I disagree. False accusations are damaging and people falsely accused have won huge settlements or judgments. For example, think of Steven Hatfill (suspected in the 2001 anthrax attacks). Even though Steven Hatfill eventually won a $5.1 judgment from the government, he will never work in research again. His life has been permanently changed by the accusations and not for the better.

Another such person was Richard Jewell:

We are a social, gregarious species. Being accused of something so heinous as the murder of a child denies that individual the human comfort of acceptance.

Veering off track: I greatly appreciate WebSleuths' commitment to maintaining a "victim friendly" forum. Thanks mods!

Can we stop using words like hideous and venom to define posts of those with differing opinions? There are several people doing this. I am sure that everyone here cares about Kyron.

I'm sure they do. I'm not describing those people who are discussing this case as "hideous". I have no problem with differing opinions, I welcome the debate.

That said, I believe what happened to this child is hideous, no matter who turns out to be the guilty party.

He hasn't confirmed or denied anything in weeks. He is just sticking to his pattern, and while some may believe that his statement can be read to mean the cell phone ping story is true, it is absolutely as easy to read his statement to mean the cell phone ping store is NOT true!

That is the point. Instead of denying it - which if it wasn't true, there would be no reason not to - he gave an answer that could be construed as a denial, but actually isn't. It's a clever trick that a lot of people use when talking to the media.

The story about cell phone pings was published on a page of WW that is clearly labeled as a blog. It's in the addy!!

You'll notice that with the exception of the cover story... EVERY article has blog in the URL. It's just how they designed the site. The same content is in the paper.

See the first post on this page. It's a 35 year old Pulitzer Prize winning newspaper.

This is NOT a blog.

Bingo. (And... most of their awards are for investigative reporting.)

Notice that when Gates was asked about Terri's cell phone pings, he didn't deny it. He just said "I don't control what papers report." If it wasn't true, he would have said it wasn't. Instead he dodges the question.

No, he wouldn't have said so. Not after making it clear numerous times he wasn't going to discuss their investigation.

yes. I posted and then went to bed... I see what others take that statement to mean and can agree in those terms, that there is a chance this can be damaging to her.

However, with all that said. Her main focus now should be her son, not herself... IMO

James Pitkin that wrote the article for WW is a bonified reporter for WW. WW is a bonified paper. There are many reporters who report online for their newspaper and call it a blog. Some reporters do this so they have their own section. I think others do it to connect better with an online community, who knows. Bottom line is WW is a legit newsource.

I believe they said the last person to see Kyron...so unless she saw him with someone else, it amounts to the same thing.

Yeah that's what he said.

Per BeanE:

[ame="http://www.websleuths.com/forums/showpost.php?p=5313106&postcount=62"]Websleuths Crime Sleuthing Community - View Single Post - Kyron Horman Q&A ***No Discussion***[/ame]

-6:42 Terri is the last known person to have seen Kyron before he disappeared.

-2:20 We're hoping that because she was here at the time that Kyron disappeared and with him and I mean it's natural she'd be with him, she brought him to school

-1:40 She's associated with the case because she was, you know, the last person to see Kyron.

But notice he doesn't say when or where.

If it's been confirmed that the SM was given a second polygraph test, does that mean she failed the first one?

I didn't think she had anything to do with it when I first heard about the case, but the cell phone pings are making me wonder. I've read speculation that she was up to something she doesn't want people to know about and that's why the pings don't match where she says she was but that makes no sense to me. Whatever it could be can't be worse than people thinking she did something to her stepson IMO

I didn't say the paper was a blog. Just that article is on a page described by the paper as a blog.

The person who wrote this article, James Pitkin, is a journalist and staff writer. The "blog" is actually their news wire section. Willamette Week only publishes a paper copy weekly, but of course there are sometimes things they need/want to report on more frequently than that. Hence, the wire section. It is not a blog in the sense that it's just someone's personal outlet for their thoughts and opinions. It's an extension of their hard copy paper. They have it listed under "News."

BBM

There are four parents involved here. Why are the other three not being crucified as well? Why not post hideous accusations against grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins, siblings? None of them have done this... so why is it just TH being raked 'cross the coals?

Something that has confused me from the start....

Not to worry, now there's a thread starting in on the Bio Mom....it just took a little bit longer

(why yes, that was somewhat sarcastic tone....although true there is a thread where the Bio Mom's letter to her son, is being ripped apart. )

I believe they said the last person to see Kyron...so unless she saw him with someone else, it amounts to the same thing.

I see it a little differently. I just waved goodbye to my son----I was in my kitchen looking out of the window, and he was walking toward his place of business. There are other pedestrians out there, too, but I have no idea if they are noticing my son or not. If he were to disappear, I might be the last person to have seen him. But that doesn't mean I was with him.

This is only a clever trick if he is denying other things, while not denying this. But he isn't. He is merely not commenting either way about this or anything else.

Whether this newspaper is legit or not, the article confirms that none of their sources are identified with the investigation into Kyron's disappearance. Not one. So we have five unidentified persons who are not affiliated with the case as the source. That just doesn't jump high enough to clear the hurdle for me.

We need news. We have reached the point where we start to eat each other.....and it's never pretty.

In one of the videos posted today, an "expert" said it could be that LE has new evidence and wants to ask additional questions.

Thanks. My main problem with this article isn't that it may be a 'blog', but that they have sourced third (or fourth or fifth) hand information from people not connected to the case.

I saw that... but I'm not ready to tear into any of them. Not yet. I have a lot of questions and some suspicions, like I said elsewhere, I find myself swaying back and forth here.

Jaycee Dugard's stepfather was the last known person to have seen her. Just saying.

Thanks. You said this much better than I have.

I agree with teh closer, no news has left us eating each other. I know we all have our differing opinions but I respect the fact that for the most part, we are all trying to be respectful of one another while differing. I just wish we would get some news, any news. Picking apart the same limited facts is driving us to distraction here.
