Forgive me if I have missed something (or quite a lot lol) but, what is to say that these 4 SA guys hadn't dreamed up this plan beforehand, i.e. the taxi driver gaining the confidence of a rich tourist(s), selling him/them an expensive bespoke private tour like a helicopter ride or a package of such tours, taking them round the city, arranging at some point for cash for the helicopter/tours to be with them in the vehicle on an evening, when they also have all the expensive jewellery on etc. - where the sole intention is together to rob them at some point and make out the taxi driver is also a victim. Here they would be maximising the value of their haul... but they would have to wait for the 'right' tourist(s) - ones who like to deal in cash to get a bargain etc.

Say (hypothetically) that said robbery goes wrong and poor Anni is killed, which none of the 4 intended. Had this not happened then the robbery would just be one in a long list of serious township crimes that the police have insufficient resources to investigate, so the chances of detection would probably not be great. Now its murder, of a tourist no less, so SA would pull all (or most) of the stops out and the 4 would know they are in trouble. They then would all have time before arrest to use the evidence with potential to be the most incriminating, i.e. all the phone calls, to their advantage i.e. in securing plea bargains by implicating Dewani to significantly reduce potential life sentences.

As we saw with OP's trial, the investigation of this matter seems to have been found wanting. It remains to be seen if there is any evidence yet to present to prove the actual content of any of the texts to and from Dewani exists, which could seal the deal, but I doubt it. The one thing I find difficult in this matter is, it may be possible that someone is stupid enough to take (what is to poor SA's) a lot of money in cash with them to meet up with a virtual stranger who is arranging helicopter tours or whatever, even in SA.... but is there anyone in the world dumb enough to arrange a hit on his wife with a taxi driver that he just met in a country that he has never been to before?

Oh, and if anyone wants to know how cheap life really is in SA, watch the Reggie Yates series on BB3 in the UK, especially 'Knife Crime ER'.

Van Zyl says Dewani had a panic attack this morning when photographers surrounded the vehicle he was in.

Complaint that photographers caused Dewani to have a panic attack this morning, by banging their lenses against his window. Traverso appeals to the media to treat the accused and case with dignity.
"We all want to see justice done."

If it was meant to be a kidnapping that would let Dewani off the hook because what could he gain from that? Nothing. So what are we saying about his behaviour, before and after Anni was killed?

There's a lot of circumstantial stuff e.g. hiring an unlicensed taxi at the airport; frequent phone contact with Qwabi, what seems to be a sham wedding due to his sexual proclivities etc. I always thought it strange that he was seemingly concerned, after the killing, that Tongo should get his money. If a taxi driver had driven me into an area known to be dangerous, unwittingly or not, I wouldn't be worried about his money, I'd be raging angry with him and hold him at least partly responsible.

We haven't heard much yet that sounds strong enough to convict him. JM)

Why didn't Dewani book the helicopter joy flight at the front desk? One of the things that bothers me, hopefully he will give an explanation that makes sense, because paying cash doesn't makes sense. Dewani is pretty tight with money, would he risk carrying so much cash? Idk.

Tongo: I contacted Qwabe and he knew how much would be paid. It was R15000. For him to deny that, I can't answer

Tongo: The information started with Monde. I also finalised that with him.

VZ: Mr. Tongo, to return to the money exchange, I'm not quite sure what your testimony is now.

Hmm, dunno... some, if they thought him innocent of any crime and thus a victim, might feel sorry for the fact he had lost his car, his livelihood, has 5 kids to feed. We weren't there of course but it is not known the kind of rapport those two had and what actually happened on the night.

According to Tongo's earlier information the plan was always to dump SD out of the car and Tongo too.

He wanted to give him the money because otherwise something might happen to SD too --perhaps that's what he was thinking ??

VZ: Did you discuss a place to exchange money, with the accused, on the Friday afternoon at the hotel as you said in your statement or the Friday evening, as you testified.

Leigh-Anne Jansen ‏@LA_JANSEN 6m6 minutes ago

Tongo: We spoke about it the Friday. As for the time, I can't remember. That's why we exchanged the money on Saturday.

I definitely agree with this, who would risk doing an activity that carries some risks with a pilot that the unlicensed taxi driver knows. Especially when there is a professional service through the reputable hotel, I don't think so.

Tongo: I said from the beginning, I tried to save his number. Since it was a lot of numbers, not like numbers in SA.

Maybe because he is tight! why would a millionaire go hunting round for deals on currency exchange that would maybe save him £25. I am not sure he's good with personal risks - look at his sexual lifestyle, going with prostitutes and rent boys and endulging in who knows what with people off the internet is behaviour that most of us wouldn't risk.
