Tongo says he told Dewani the men had a problem with transport and that is why they were delayed.

Tongo says the hitmen said they would wait for him and the couple in Gugulethu.

Court is a little less full today - fewer people in the public gallery, media representatives & Hindocha family members.

(I can see why, this is going round it circles and seems like there isn't a case. Gawd, I hope it's over today, :D )

Tongo says reference in his affidavit to Dewani threatening to kill him is incorrect. (What?!)

Tongo says things that were said in his affidavit at the time, happened when he was in a "critical condition".

Traverso reprimands Tongo. Don't pass comments. Answer the questions-after he tells VZ "thanks for saying I'm clever"

EWN Reporter ‏@ewnreporter 2m2 minutes ago

VZ:did you tell Col Barkhuisen that the accused threatened by saying he would kill you if job wasn't done?

Tongo says he never said that.

Leigh-Anne Jansen ‏@LA_JANSEN 2m2 minutes ago

In a statement to Col. Barkhuizen, Tongo said SD threatened to kill him if the job is not done. Tongo, now says, he didn't say that.

VZ: what is right, what you have testified in chief or what you said in your statement?

(this trial seems to be grinding to a halt....)

Van Zyl: are you saying there was a flurry of communication between you and accused.. Up to arriving in the Strand?

Tongo: We were communicating on way to Strand. That's why it surprises me that it doesn't appear.

Van Zyl: it surprises me as well

It surpises me too! Ha-ha...

VZ: you either told accused you would phone and find out what happened, or as you testified that you had already spoken to them.

kevinjohnbrandt ‏@kevinjohnbrandt@ANN7tv 46s46 seconds ago

Tongo: sir, as I said, there was a lot of things discussed between me and the accused on that night.

Tongo: I tried to convey everything I received from young men to accused & vice versa. It's impossible to say who said what.

VZ: there's another problem here, you said he softly inquired what happened and you explained, right?

Tongo: correct.

Leigh-Anne Jansen ‏@LA_JANSEN 2m2 minutes ago

VZ: There's another problem here. You said you & the accused walked ahead of the lady & he whispered "what happened?" but your statement

says "Dewani turned around to me and asked me what's happening." It's different. Why?

Tongo: I'm going to repeat that some of the things I said here, I only recalled afterwards.

CCTV footage shows Tongo and Dewani walking ahead of Anni.

Tongo: I can see there is a difference but things happened in the manner I am saying now.

Tongo: Some of the things in my statement are correct as are the things I said in court.

Traverso: Where were you when this statement was written?

Tongo: In custody.

Traverso: Where?

Leigh-Anne Jansen ‏@LA_JANSEN 2m2 minutes ago

Tongo: Bellville South.

Traverso: Who was present? You, your attorney, Col. Barkhuizen?

Tongo: Correct

Leigh-Anne Jansen ‏@LA_JANSEN 3m3 minutes ago

Traverso: How did it happen? Did they write and then ask you or did you just give the story?

Tongo: They would ask questions and I answered.

Traverso: When you finished, was it read to you?

Tongo: It was given to me. I just had a look, My Lady.

Traverso: But you signed it.

Tongo: Correct

Judge Traverso has asked Tongo about his statement to police in Nov, 2010 - where it was taken, who was there etc.

I have almost come to the conclusion that this was a set up job by Tombo. He was the king pin. I know lots of you won't agree but bear with me. Tongo picked up a wealthy looking couple from the airport and offered his services as a "tour guide". Maybe said he could get them a cheap helicopter ride for cash. Diwani stupidly agrees. Possibly he is not aware how dangerous SA can be. Thought Tombo was being helpful. All the while Tombo was calculating how he could part Dewani and his money. Organises a carjacking via/with cronies of his (we already know there are hit teams available for $1000 or was it Rands). Calculates that if Dewani is set free he can invent a story about a murder request and blame it on SD (SD being set free - absolutely necessary for the plot to look reasonably possibly true). I wonder what else poor Anni might have endured had someone not stupidly shot her when they did. Is that why they wanted her alone in the car? Rape the woman, take the money, jewels etc and then bump her off. Maybe she could identify the thugs. Maybe she was screaming. Tongo tries hard to keep himself out of the real messy business and blames the others for almost everything.

I don't doubt the marriage was not exactly what Anni wanted but I see no reason why SD would have her murdered. Modern, educated Hindus do divorce.

Before you jump on me (:) ) please remember I am viewing this exactly as a juror would. I absolutely have no background to the case and can only judge from what I have heard tweeted in court. I do hope SD does take the stand. Maybe I might change my mind but I have a feeling this case is not going to run its course. The witnesses are becoming a joke. Yes, there has been 4 years between times but all the better to think up extra facts that were not in the witness statements. IMO this is what Tombo is doing and he is being taken to task by the Judge and the DT and now no record of the calls he said he made that were so important to nail SD. I think Tombo has lost the plot. Too many lies; no way any judge will believe him. Even the PT seems not to be intervening in the farce. One wonders what the PT can be thinking.

I am hiding behind a large barricade, waiting for the bricks :).

Those of you who know me from the OP trial will also know I am no walkover. I am definitely not like the members we had that felt they needed to support OP at all cost. SD means absolutely nothing to me.

I love the way the Judge is involved. In OP's case Masipa was worse than useless at times. She never questioned anything, no matter how stupid is sounded.

No jumping from me! Tongo's weird and seemingly unreliable evidence has led us along a different path to the one I was expecting the trial would take. Makes me even more curious what the disclosure was that SD made to the German master. I wonder if we'll ever get anything near the truth of what really happened.
