VZ: You were taken to the Cape Grace & were in the presence of Mr. Dewani on more than one occasion?

Tongo: Correct

VZ: He asked you if you were alright?

Tongo: Correct

VZ: You say you pointed out to him that there were cameras.

Tongo: Correct.

VZ: Then he walked out of sight.

Tongo: Correct.

VZ: What did he do?

Tongo: If I can remember well, it seems he went out.

Traverso: Out where?

Tongo: There's a door that goes to the reception.

VZ: He left the terrace area?

Tongo: correct

VZ: Then he comes back, in camera view.

Tongo: Because that's where I was sitting

VZ: It looked like he told the cleaner to leave. What was discussed between the two of you?

Tongo: The accused wanted to know if they found the body & was continuously asking if I'm alright. He asked if the young men really did that. That's some things I can remember.

VZ: What did you say?

Tongo: I said I don't have any knowledge but said I hope they did the job.

VZ: Did Mr. Dewani have a phone with him?

Tongo: It seems he did.

VZ: Did you not think of taking the phone to call Monde to find out?

Tongo: I can't remember that.

VZ: Is it true that one can see through those glass doors?

Tongo: Correct

VZ: The contents of this conversation was important. What did you tell the police?

Tongo: I don't know if this is the only thing that's important. Everything is important.

Van Zyl goes back to Tongo's statement. ((At this stage, it seems, the bulk of Tongo's statement was a "mistake")

Tongo mentions nothing about this conversation (on the terrace) in his statement.

VZ: Why didn't you tell the police?

Tongo: It comes back to what I revealed that there are some things that are resurfacing. There are some things that I do remember now & did not reveal those things, then.

(Tongo is damaging this case on purpose imo, I wish I knew why?)

Tongo: If I could rewrite a statement now, it would be slightly different to original statement, can remember things.

VZ: I put it to you, if you'd had such a discussion with accused that night, you would have mentioned it to police.

If I understand your statement correctly.....after the "hijacking, you should be ok and Mr Dewani should be ok ?

News24 ‏@News24 1m1 minute ago

VZ: At hotel, why didn't you ask Dewani about money? Contract had been fulfilled.

Tongo: Didn't ask because he said he'd call.

Tongo says at the hotel, on the Sunday, he found out for the first time that the deceased was Dewani's wife.

Van Zyl is pressing Tongo to answer why he did not ask Dewani for his money on the Sunday after the job had been done.

I wonder if Tongo doesn't trust the authorities will stick to his previous immunity. That or as it's been said he's worried about repercussions from Monde who might have an investment in SD being found NG and the whole thing being abandoned and forgotten. He's so evasive and 'cocky' with it.

Tongo: accused kept asking me if everything went according to plan.

News24 ‏@News24 2m2 minutes ago

VZ reads Tongo statement, Dewani asked on phone if he fine, wanted to pay outstanding money, dropped phone. That correct?

Tongo: Yes.

kevinjohnbrandt ‏@kevinjohnbrandt 2m2 minutes ago

VZ, so it was mr Dewani who wanted to pay you the outstanding money....but only paid you R1000 ?

News24 ‏@News24 2m2 minutes ago

VZ: And then accused only paid you R1k, not R5k? What will trip to Somerset West cost?

Tongo: Between R1500-1700.

VZ: If you had to take them to 96 Winery Road, wait for them & bring them back to CPT, what would you have charged?

Tongo: Between R1500 and R1700.

VZ: And discount?

Tongo: R1500

VZ: Mr. DEwani will say that you told him you'd usually charge R100 from town to Cape Grace but you will charge R1000 for the trip and outing, all inclusive.

Tongo: I can't charge that money.

VZ: Anyway, let us proceed

Tongo says if his memory serves him well, Dewani called him to tell him they should meet at the Waterfront so he can be paid.

Tongo says he waited but Dewani did not pitch. Tongo says Dewani told him he cannot get out due to the presence of media.

Tongo says he decided to go into the hotel and saw Dewani who signaled to him to follow him.

Tongo says he followed Dewani into the communications room. Dewani gave him a plastic bag. Tongo went into the toilet.

Tongo says he cannot remember saying anything to Dewani after receiving the plastic bag.

Tongo then went into the toilet and counted the money.

If this was a movie, I just wouldn't believe what is happening. I will be more accepting of 'unrealistic' courtroom movies from now on. :p

Oh yes I remember, A Fish called Wanda, where Jamie Lee Curtis changed her testimony on stand, she did see her boyfriend leave with a sawn-off shotgun, and wondered where he was going? :giggle:

Tongo: It's correct I was angry after short-paid by R4k. But didn't confront Dewani.

VZ: Why didn't you pick up phone to ask?

Tongo on being underpaid by R4k: I took that as a loss that I suffered. Seems pretty improbable, doesn't it?

No tweets coming through, maybe everyone has abandoned the building.

Tongo says Dewani still owes him R1500 (trip to Somerset West), plus the R4000 (for the murder) Tongo says he wrote it off as a loss.

(is this a bad joke?)

this is the part I have most trouble with -- he was right there and could have turned around and dealt with it at the hotel, that day......

Judge: You weren't taking them to see nightlife, you were taking them to be hijacked, someone killed. You were going to charge?

Leigh-Anne Jansen ‏@LA_JANSEN 3m3 minutes ago

Traverso: But Mr. Tongo, you weren't taking them to show them the nightlife. You were taking them to a hijacking and for someone to be killed.

Tongo: That's correct, My Lady

Also R200 for the currency exchange. So, in all, according to Tongo, Shrien Dewani owes him R5700.
