I was in a shop in Dubai yesterday and got into conversation with a person stood near me. This lady was from Cape Town S.A. and I casually mentioned I had been following the Pistorious and Deweni trials, to which she replied 'Oh please don't mention that, we South Africans find it all very embarrassing when it comes to how the courts are run'. I did reassure her it wasn't the publics fault and nothing to be ashamed of, but did understand her way of thinking.

The South African man found guilty of shooting Anni Dewani dead was convicted on partially false evidence, a key prosecution witness to Shrien Dewani’s murder trial has said.

Testifying on Thursday for the prosecution against the murder-accused Briton, Monde Mbolombo admitted that he had lied in the previous trial in 2012 at which gangster Xolile Mngeni was convicted of Anni Dewani’s murder.

“You lied in the State v Mngeni?”, Dewani’s prosecutor, Shareen Riley, asked the 34-year-old hotel receptionist. “That’s correct,” Mbolombo replied.

I find it very strange that R15,000 keeps cropping up in conversations...

R15,000 for the murder of Anni
R15,000 for a helicopter ride
R15,000 as a thank you to the staff at the Cape Grace Hotel.

MM: We weren't thinking about how precious the person's life was because in our language it is said that we can't attach price to life.

But no problem attaching a price to someone's death, uh? Hypocrite.

What a horrible, cold-hearted, self-serving bunch of criminals. Including Dewani, in my opinion. Disgrace to all their respective countries, the lot of them. that's India, England, and South Africa.

I know it may be controversial, but I do think Dewani short-changed the killers on the deal, and I think it wasn't just meanness - I think there was racism too. I think he looked down upon SA black people as Dalits (untouchables). To be used, cheated and treated with contempt, at will. I think he had females of all races in that category too, apart from his mother, perhaps.

After all (non) gentlemen always prefer blondes, don't they?

No criticism of Leopold Lessiter intended in above post by the way. He stepped forward to help Anni and is a good man, in my opinion. Knows right from wrong.

Now that a witness has mentioned Dewani's tax evasion, I really hope the Inland Revenue in England will go over his returns and accounts with a fine, fine toothcomb. Hit him where it really hurts. :)

Be assured Zwiebel, I'll be surprised if they don't, he's a sitting duck and they love an easy target.

Yes, so do I. Not sure what it means, but it is curious indeed.

I find it absolutely shocking how the majority of you are making attacks on SD's character and some of the bizarre conclusions that have been made from his behavior that can be explained at ease. Not only is this guy still innocent before proven guilty, but the evidence is completely in his favor. Plus, the guy's wife was shot dead! Some people are saying that he must be capable of organizing the hit even though they are not sure if he did it! That's illogical, it's one or the other, not in between. Not every bisexual millionaire is a murderer or deserves their accounting going through meticulously at home because their wife was killed and a couple of crooks say he did it to shave years off their sentence! There isn't ONE thing suspicious to me yet.

What makes it worse is the SA criminal justice system seems to have orchestrated this case from the beginning to be almost totally reliant on the testimony of his so called conspirators and never tested the veracity of their testimonies, despite the obvious benefits to them implicating another in terms of immunity/sentencing. The taxi driver was convicted at the time of an offence regarding lying to the police and Mbolombo, who was given immunity, has now admitted he lied all along and at the trial of Mngeli, only admitting this when CCTV evidence proved his greater involvement. They have kept from prosecuting him for conspiracy to murder all this time so he can be the so called star witness here, when he should be locked up and off the streets.

No wonder police officers with means qualify as lawyers over there and do defence work (like Oldwage).

"Hotel receptionist Monde Mbolombo was told about a foreigner who wanted his wife killed and it was not the first time he had arranged a killing in South Africa, the Western Cape High Court heard on Thursday.

"Mbolombo told prosecutor Shareen Riley that his friend and taxi driver Zola Tongo told him on 13 November 2010, that the tourist had approached him the day before at the airport.

Mbolombo met Tongo in his shuttle taxi that day to get more details about the alleged hit. He later knew the tourist as British businessman Shrien Dewani."

The Shrien Dewani trial continues today in the Western Cape High Court. Hotel receptionist Monde Mbolombo will be cross-examined by the defence as soon as proceedings resume.

Journalist Lauren Hess just left the office and will be in court in a little while. She'll be tweeting all the interesting details.

Court resumes. MM still on the witness stand with Francois van Zyl for the defence cross-examining.

FvZ: Yesterday, I asked you whether you gave Abongile's (MQ) number to Zola Tongo (ZT).

MM says he doesn't remember whether he gave it or not.

Defence asks about meeting Qwabe in Monwabisi Beach “in the company of people who looked like criminals.” Van Zyl asks the witness why he didn’t say this in Mntgeni’s trial.

Everyone has a right to their opinion, please stop making it personal about posters in this forum, your last post in this thread was bad enough. If you feel personally offended by comments about Dewani, then contact a mod and report.

There is in between whether you like it or not, we're going through the trial tweets, going through all the testimonies, weighing things up, discussing ideas, thoughts etc. You have not contributed to this thread one iota except one very angry post which I found offensive.

There are many, many threads on this website, do you honestly believe that we ALL agree about every single one. I certainly wouldn't go into a thread blasting everyone for their comments. If I feel I want to contribute, I will give my opinions and theories, not make a mockery of the people who participate in the thread.

I stand by my previous comment that you included in your last angry post, that imo, Dewani is a liar. Did he have his wife killed? I'm still waiting for the trial to continue and what's revealed, but I don't know if he's guilty and neither do you.

FvZ asks MM what do he thought a hitman does?

Kills people, says MM.

Why didn't you tell him I'm not a criminal, asks FvZ.

Van Zyl asks Mbolombo why he didn’t tell Tongo he’s not a criminal when he asked for a hitman. The witness says he doesn’t know why.
