I think you're onto something there Z. Tongo and SD were rather pally before, during and after the 'incident', Tongo probably wanted to impress his mates he was in with the couple.
I wonder if Tongo has changed tact after finding out SD is gay. He was in big denial during his time on the stand that they never 'held hands' which I think means, shake hands. Just good ol' homophobia? JMO

Agreed. I think MM refusing to call Dewani by his name is probably a sign of disgust at his sexuality too, rather than disgust that he (allegedly) arranged the killing of his wife.

MM: Zola said the reason for him not to be able to answer Abongile's call is because he was sitting with couple.

Van Zyl: You knew when Qwabe called you they were supposed to meet at 7:30.

MM: he told me at that time.

Van Zyl: Tongo says when he arrived at agreed place he was late, called Qwabe to ask what's going on. Did Qwabe tell you that?

MM: they never discussed that it was going to be called off. Calls were made, I tried till I got hold of Zola.

VZ refers to a call between MM and Qwabe "It's that thing we talked about, it must happen today." MM refers to "that place."

VZ: What were you referring to?

MM: What I was saying is this lady had to be killed on that day, Saturday.

VZ: Why did you say that to Qwabe at that time.

MM: Maybe he had doubts, that's why.

VZ: But you were not involved in the arrangements, as I understand you. That was between Qwabe & Tongo, right?

MM: Right.

VZ: So why would you tell Qwabe at about 21:30 that the job had to be done.

MM: This is what was discussed between me and Zola. He told me that this must happen that Saturday night.

VZ: When did you discuss this with Tongo, sir?

MM: That's what I asked him long ago, on the way to my work. I asked him why it was necessary that it happens that night.

VZ: In the car, that Saturday afternoon, sir, Tongo was explaining to you, I presume that there was going to be a false hijacking that night. Did he say what time?

MM: As i said, it was said it must happen Sat.
