NOT GUILTY South Africa - Anni Dewani, 28, shot to death, Gugulethu, 13 Nov 2010 #5

I wonder if the Law Society of Kenya would be able to tell us if it is acceptable for an advocate to accept payment to represent a client, from 'unknown' sources? And what might happen if those sources turned out to be in direct conflict with the client's best interests?

I found this interesting...

About a decade before he was accused of masterminding his wife’s murder, Shrien Dewani’s life was travelling around Ghana as a volunteer aid worker.

The profile said Dewani’s grandfather Prabhudas emigrated from Kenya to the UK where he set up a business with Dewani’s father, Prakash, a pharmacist.

Thank you King Charles. From that link:

"According to Wikipedia, Anni then moved to Bristol to help Dewani run PSP Healthcare."

Business associate?!

It is the first time I had read that about Anni being a business associate in the Dewani care homes, which surprised me. I have searched the Internet but haven't been able to find anymore info about it.

IMO, good on the NPA going after Dewani! Capt Henrickson's instincts were right, if only they'd acted on it immediately and kept SD longer in SA. Dewani thought he got away with it the moment he stepped on the plane back home.

Yes the only other allusion came from Tongo, and since the news article cites Wiki we must question where it comes from... But it's weird, dontcha think? I did wonder ages ago whether she was put on a board of a business, even in a nominal capacity.

The NPA will today file responding papers after lawyers for Shrien Dewani filed heads of argument for his discharge on charges of conspiring to kill his wife Anni.

The Defence filed their papers on Wednesday.

“The heads of argument would not be available to the media until the application was heard in open court”.

On Monday, van Zyl, for Dewani, said the defence intended making an application to Deputy Judge President Traverso in terms of section 174 of the Criminal Procedure Act.

“Traverso said the application was provisionally set down to be heard on Monday, unless she needed more time to consider both arguments.

Section 174 provides that if at the close of the prosecution’s case, the court believes there is no evidence that the accused committed the offence, it may return a verdict of not guilty”.

NPA to file in response to Dewani discharge papers

Cape Town - The National Prosecuting Authority will on Friday file responding papers after lawyers for British businessman Shrien Dewani filed heads of argument for his discharge on charges of conspiring to kill his wife Anni.

The few comments to the above link show what they think of the police.

So Anni could have been introduced as my new wife or depending on the situation my business associate.

Yes, if the assertion that she helped run the care homes is true, this is a possibility, IMO. It could explain how Tongo came up with such a left-field idea.

I do agree with you. When Tongo kept insisting he didn't know that Anni was is wife, I just couldn't understand it and posted about it at the time. But now reading that she was involved in the care homes it makes what Tongo stated clearer.
Just wonder why there hasn't been further info/media coverage on Anni's involvement though.

It has been asserted that SD did not benefit from life insurance from Anni's death, but I have to wonder out loud if his family's company did - it's not uncommon for directors or officers of a company to be life insured with proceeds being payable to the corporation. MOO

I've looked up the Wikipedia page and can't find the assertion cited in the news article that Anni worked for PSP [emoji53]

Re any financial benefit from her death, I guess it's much more likely to come from any business involvement than anything else because Anni and Shrien weren't legally married were they? The Hindu ceremony in India was to have been followed up with a civil ceremony in Britain in 2011.

If they were not legally married, why did he not just walk away? It was a bit drastic to murder her. I have to be missing something here.

With respect to the Wiki content. It can be edited by anyone I believe. I have not read it before but has anyone been religiously following it and noticed what has been altered? The last occasion was 10th November 2014 at 8.10am. That could be quite interesting.

Have we seen this before? It is an interview of a reporter who has been in court for the whole trial. He seems to think it will be thrown out BUT could possibly, though not likely, be appealed.

I hope he is wrong. :) Dewani wants this all to disappear just like he made Anni disappear, he must be brought to justice!

I can't see how the NPA had any other choice but bring Dewani to stand trial, unless they ignore all the evidence that points to his collusion with Tongo. If this happened in another country, I am sure he would be found guilty.

Dewani replies in a text to the driver about a large amount of cash in the car, the driver then immediately in front of Dewani (Tongo was driving, Anni and SD would have noticed Tongo texting), texts his accomplice and bingo, they are hijacked! Then, Dewani did all he could to cover for Tongo and himself, why? The judge has to ask this question. JMO

I think you're onto something there, jslk. Why would Tongo even say it, if he hadn't heard it. It didn't serve him any purpose to mention it. Dewani must think Tongo was so confused which made him appear as an unreliable witness? JMO
