It makes me wonder what police saw on the cctv footage to think foul play???
I wonder if the female he was with is known to law enforcement there, prompting them to jump to a foul play concern.

Moo....tourists, no matter what country you are in, are always seen as prey. If they find the girl he went with, maybe some information will be forth coming. Just because the female was American does not mean she is not a local resident. The most common way to get a target alone is just get a female to take target for a walk. Also he is American and Americans should be a lot more wary of quick friendship offerings while in Europe or many countries actually...moo
Did info come out about who they saw him with after the friends left or was she she one of the people he went to visit? I haven't seen detail on that yet. I agree sometimes females can be used as a lure in a crime group. Thx!
I’m probably the one who said it because it was from a report that came to us in the community from his friends who are still there. That’s all I *know* based upon what we were told by the kids who are still in Spain. My *guess* is that he met her at the club while with his friends, so they were chatting- maybe some of his friends spoke to her, he told his friends she was American…I don’t know. I was told that the friends were unconcerned about his whereabouts and did not expect him home anytime soon (due to the implied hookup/overnight stay with this girl). JMOO
wonder of she’s been interviewed by police yet

Im not implying any drugs are involved here, but does anyone familiar with this nightclub scene know if young folks tend to do drugs on the beach or anything? Access? Would an unintended od or loss of consciousness be possible then people flee not to get in trouble? It was just a thought. I understand that there would probably not be a missing person if that’s were the case necessarily, but with water that close nearby, is there a possibility he could have been taken out to sea? Or even if he went with somebody after experimenting with something he’s not used to, and then something nefarious happened in an apartment or something. I hate to think that. But I’m wondering if that is a possibility. Anybody know if they’ve sent out any kind of Coast Guard type boats or helicopters?

Wonder what mode of transportation he used to get there.
Moo...wonder what the street lighting is like at nite. There are green space parks nearby. Lots of isolated places close by.....moo

It looks like lots from photos and such. I’m still thinking that whether voluntarily or involuntarily the water might play a main part… Do they ping phones the same over in other countries? I think that’s probably a dumb question but I’m just thinking that whatever phone pings near his may also help.

What I can tell you is when we were there last week and my oldest was toodling around in that area at night, he was offered drugs numerous times. Not sure if it’s his mustache or that he looks like a hipster, but in the area of Barceloneta Beach guys would walk past and gesture to him: hashish? MDMA? Ecstasy?

This is such a nightmare.

Reminds me of a movie I recently saw, "Influencer" about a solo female traveller to Thailand, who is befriended by a fellow American (or Brit, can't remember) who lived there. Turns out that this new friend had nefarious ulterior motives.

Really frightening...these things happen. And how many times was I approached in Italy when alone, and also managed to thwart pickpocketing attempts? Nothing's the same anymore with regards to travelling.

I feel devastated for Jimmy's parents and loved ones.

I was told that there were privacy laws that were delaying either the initial release or the ability to view certain images for the first 24 hours. I don’t know that for sure, but it was mentioned. So then I was curious about them being able to piece together a video trail, and I googled. Very interesting…at least from what I read…their residential Ring cameras and such are incredibly limited. Your Ring can really only detect your stoop, for example, and not the broader sidewalk or the road. It seems that everything camera-related there is way more restricted. I don’t know what that means in terms of it being true, or in terms of it hindering this case, but it initially is feeling like they aren’t going to be able to create the video trail as we might be able to here in the U.S. MOO

Sounds like they have crime rings around who prey on tourists and the popularity of this place imo
Yes, Barcelona has been like it for years. Prague is another one.

My other thoughts are that this bar seems to be quite a popular place, especially for young adults, and I would most definitely assume that alcohol and/or drugs would be involved with many of them. For liability’s sake, I would assume there are cameras all over throughout the club as well as surrounding it, especially as it is so close to the beach and the water. This is, of course, my speculation, but I would have to think that any owner and/or insurance company worth their salt would have that place under significant surveillance. Date rape drugs, fights, weapons, sexual assault, who knows? There surely must be good video. What they were able to see of him once he got beyond their range, of course, is anyone’s guess. But that is a very populated area at all times of day and night. JMO

I was in Barcelona in 2005, and we were told that walking unawares on Las Ramblas, the major tourist drag, would almost certainly result in being pickpocketed, even in broad daylight. That said, this happens in Nashville, here in Chicago…too often, sadly.

Come on, he got drunk, walked off with a lady, maybe still with her. This was last night?

For Spanish police to suspect foul play they must have footage of something imo. They are usually tight lipped.

No it’s been 48 hours now. Last seen local time 3 am Tuesday morning and now at the time of this post it’s 2:30 am Thursday.

Moo....was the lady alone or with a group of friends? If they are after your wallet, the lady will be alone, her partners/friends will be outside waiting to follow you on your walk. But if she was with a group maybe he's just hungover somewhere. Thieves after wallets don't like to be seen together....moo

When I first saw this story, and googled the location my initial thought was the water. How many times have young men who have been out late and (presumably) drinking end up accidentally falling into the water.

With the police coming out saying they suspect foul play, it actually makes me second guess my accidental water theory. What did they see on the CCTV? Unfortunately, it doesn't make the situation sound any better though. MOO.

My heart aches for the family.
