What I can tell you is when we were there last week and my oldest was toodling around in that area at night, he was offered drugs numerous times. Not sure if it’s his mustache or that he looks like a hipster, but in the area of Barceloneta Beach guys would walk past and gesture to him: hashish? MDMA? Ecstasy?
That’s what I was thinking but didn't want to assume. Thanks for the info!

I thought I read somewhere that Jimmy and a couple of friends from their fraternity went abroad during spring break and planned to visit with fellow students who were studying in Barcelona as part of the university's study abroad program. I think Jimmy and friends were in Amsterdam (IIRC) the day before they arrived in Barcelona and had just been in Barcelona for one day or so when he disappeared. So they really didn't know the area very well where they were staying. They had pretty much only just arrived. JMO and going by memory from what I've read so far.

I was looking at the area outside the club where he was at on google maps. It's a pretty big beach that then leads into the water. Not somewhere that you just fall in. He was last seen at about 3 am, which isn't that late for a party spot in Barcelona.

There's a walkway with other bars outside of where he was last scene. It's not somewhere you just disappear from, are robbed/dumped in the water, etc.

Looking at the geography around the bar where he was - to go missing, I think he would have first had to proactively leave the area (with someone) and then later disappear.

This is really frightening.
I can’t help but think someone nefarious may have targeted him because of his very flashy cross necklace. Not necessarily to rob him but out of animosity.
He seems like a very kind person and may have been vulnerable to something really ugly.
I don’t have a good feeling about this.
Just imho/ speculation

His poor family. It is truly a nightmare.
Please go easy on his friends, because if he wanted to leave with a woman, of course they couldn't stop him.

It sounds like he may have actually been set up for a robbery and things went south? Hopefully law enforcement knows exactly what they are doing.

This case might be similar to that of Nick Frischke, a college student visiting Cape Town who was apparently robbed by a known group... there is a thread here.

It's so horrific and unfair, and I just hope if he was harmed there will be justice and everyone involved will not ever be free again to harm again. Good luck to police solving this quickly and may he be found today.

It was WAY too cold that night for a voluntary swim.
Shockingly cold- not comfortable.
I don’t think his wallet fell out.
It was likely stolen and emptied of cash then dumped into the water imho

or simply thrown into the water, cash or not, as a way of disposing of evidence

I don't see the wallet coming out of his pocket without being intentionally removed, whether by him or someone else. and I don't see why he would throw his own wallet into the ocean.

it's a pretty bad sign, imo.

Hoping for the best, but recognize the worst.

Currently watching the news on La Sexta and they just talked about Jimmy briefly saying as was said above that his wallet was found by police but also his phone. Making it seem like they were both found sometime yesterday or today.

I had read yesterday on Reddit that they had pinged the AirTag in his wallet and that's how they found it. I don't even know if that's possible once an AirTag is in water, but I didn't want to say it here because it was unsubstantiated at the time. For what it's worth, that poster said it had the credit cards in it- I don't remember about any cash. I know that's speculation, but since they knew about the wallet yesterday, maybe that's accurate. Please delete if I'm not allowed to share this. JMO

Snipped by me:
A Catalonia Police spokesperson told NBC News that authorities received a call around 3 a.m. the morning of March 17 reporting a possible disappearance in the Port Olímpic area but added it did not have more information to share.

Well that is strange? Who called? Can this be right?

I thought the police called the father when they found the cell phone and that set off the whole thing?

This story reminds me of that other American kid who after a night of heavy drinking fell off a cliff. Very sad. Moo
