RIP, Jimmy. A parents worse nightmare.

Not saying it was the case in *this* case, but they tend to split up if they are planning to leave and go home with someone else. If he did indeed meet a girl and head out with her, his friends wouldn't have thought much of it, I don't think. As we saw in the Riley Strain case, these college kids separate for a variety of reasons and don't think much of it, unfortunately. I don't know what works to get them to understand they need to implement the buddy system. As a parent of two teen boys, these stories paralyze me. Praying for a good outcome but not optimistic that we'll get one. Hope I'm wrong. JMO
Good point. Hook ups are not unheard of with young adults and foreign travel. Add to the fact that many are in an environment without a drinking age for the first time!

Reminds me of the Sudiksha Konanki case out of the Dominican Republic. Her body was never found and she was left with a male after going with a group of friends to the beach.

What is the tidal situation there? It's hard imo to imagine him going into the water with the wallet intentionally, but would it have been washed in overnight if he left it in a pile on the shore with perhaps his shoes, phone etc to take a quick plunge? Other non-nefarious option imo is that he left it, didn't come back, and someone opportunistically went through it later for anything of value and then pitched it. I'm assuming that imo at least his ID was still in it since it was identified as his, unless he had such an unusual wallet that it was readily apparent without -- monogrammed or something like that.

  • Key Aspects of Mediterranean Tides:
    • Average Range: 10–40 cm, often neglected in sailing, though high-pressure systems can make them lower and low-pressure systems higher.

People take selfies now, but I am reminded of the movie European Vacation where Chevy Chase’s character Clark asked a guy to take a pic of the fam handing over the camera and the guy ran off with it…. That was in the 80’s and meant to be comedy, but things are just as bad or can be worse now sadly. Im so sorry for this family and friends have to watch some ( hindsight is 20/20/) poor choices unfold. Jmo and thoughts

Lol. That was a great scene.

But yeah, in tourist hotspots you have criminal elements that know exactly how to exploit the situation.

I just don’t see a robbery/drowning murder here. No reason for that.

I do wonder about the statement of suspected foul play. Was he knocked out and fell in the water?

Sudiksha Konanki was such a sad case. Her parents seemed like they were lovely people.

Very sad for the family ~ can’t imagine the details of getting his body home.
Good point. I have a friend whose wife died while they were abroad on vacation it took weeks to get her body back to the USA. Her husband had to leave her and come home. I imagine it will be several weeks for Jimmy to be returned.

I didn't see spanish media say anything about suspected foul play, they said police had not ruled out any hypothesis, wich is what they typically would say in any unresolved case.

This is what they are saying in the most recent news: Los Mossos localizan el cuerpo sin vida de Jimmy Gracey, el estadounidense desaparecido

"Since his friends and parents reported his disappearance, the police have been working on the hypothesis of an accident, without ruling out any scenario. The body was taken thursday night to the Institute of Legal Medicine and Forensic Sciences for an autopsy. So far, investigators have ruled out any criminal motive."
"From the outset, the police investigators had witnesses and images placing the young man in the direction of the beach. Therefore, since wednesday, maritime police vessels had been searching for him in the city's waters. The discovery on wednesday of the young man's wallet floating on the beach reinforced the theory that he might have gone into the sea. Also on wednesday, a pair of municipal police officers identified a repeat offender and seized a cell phone from him that he claimed to have found on the beach. The phone was unlocked, and the officers called the last numbers received, confirming with the person who answered that it belonged to the missing young man."

Wow, the person answering the phone might think everything is OK to having a big shock.

What a horrible outcome. Rest in peace, Jimmy.
