Found Deceased Spain - Julen Rosello, 2, fell into narrow and deep borehole, Totalán, 13 Jan 2019 #2

I checked Spanish Malaga Hoy articles and found nothing about a "stake" or similar. Given that the Crypto Coin article is a terrible translation overall I think this was just a mistranslation. Many words have several meanings.

One article said they are trying to find out what exactly caused the blow to the head, maybe that sentence caused the confusion?

This is why I was trying to find the original article so a Spanish speaker could interpret it better. The link bearbear provided is made up from various news reports, but underneath the "stake" paragraph it says source: Málaga Hoy, La Vanguardia.

My problem is that when trawling those news sites, I can't find the matching article because I'm not familiar enough with Spanish words to fit it together. Go sleuthers!!

I was very happy when I got a hit on the exact sentence on google but ended up to my own post here. I am not that good in sleuthing.

Well, whatever it was they were trying to say, I reckon we can rule out vampires.

I think I found out what happened. "Stake" also translates back to "parada" which means "stoppage". It's about the "plug" of soil that was on top of Julen. They are trying to figure out how it got there (as other articles correctly reported).

A Spanish toddler found dead at the bottom of a deep well after a massive rescue operation was on Sunday buried next to his brother.

Two-year-old Julen Rosello was interred alongside his brother Oliver who died in 2017 aged three after suffering cardiac problems.

A crowd at the entrance to the cemetery in Malaga in southern Spain applauded as the little boy's family arrived for the burial.

A COURT in Malaga has opened a negligent manslaughter investigation into the death of two-year-old Julen who was killed when he fell down a well.

According to Spanish media, officials will examine two leads; whether the owner of the land Julen died on, or the man who bored the hole, Antonio Sanchez, were negligent, and how Julen came to be buried under large quantities of soil after his fall.

The negligent manslaughter charge carries a sentence of one to four years in prison for serious cases, or a fine in more minor instances.

Anyone found to be at fault could also be liable for compensation to Julen’s parents, as well as for the costs of the rescue operation, thought to be millions of Euros.

After the Guardia Civil’s Nature Protection Service (SEPRONA) confirmed the hole Julen fell down had been bored without the necessary permissions, police say they will focus their investigation on whether Antonio Sanchez attempted to seal the well as he claims, and whether the land’s owner removed any covering.

The second arm of the investigation will use witness accounts from those present when Julen fell, including his parents, his father’s cousin, the owner of the land, and two walkers who came to the family’s aid.

Officials say these statements could uncover how Julen came to be buried under around 70 centimetres of soil and rocks after his fall, leading rescuers to incorrectly believe the boy was trapped two-thirds of the way down the borehole.

After finding a build-up of soil, workers initially believed Julen was trapped at a blockage around 72-meters down to well they thought measured 110-meters.

Good! I hope the same will happen in the case where a man and his dog died.

Yes I hope so too. That case was a bit different though as it seems to be an actual well (it had water), it was not very deep (10ft I read), and it was not on private property I think. It must have been much wider too for a grown man to fall into it. Nevertheless it seems it was unmarked and uncovered, just a big hole in the ground? o_O

The problem of illegal and unsecured boreholes and wells is big in Spanish media right now. I hope the coverage prompts landowners and communities to check their own wells and make sure they are covered.

theres reportedly thousands illegal of bore holes /wells dotted around the countryside in spain, so dangerous and sad for all the animals that fall into them!

I’m glad they are still investigating this, so much of it just doesn’t even make sense.

Parents should never have to bury their babies.
Especially not 3 of them in 20 months. :(

I know I begin to imagine how much Julen’s poor parents have suffered and continue to do so. Life can be so tragic and unfair for some people.

“The fact that eight hairs from the minor were found on the end of the pick after the last time it was removed, three of which contained the root, leads us to ask: What other alternative theory apart from a direct impact against the head of the minor could explain the presence of these biological remains on the end of the pick?” the report sent to the judge reads.
Owner of land where Julen Roselló died will argue he was killed in rescue
