michelle said:Jeana, you hit the nail on the head! I was watching supernanny and the effort she teaches them to put in with their children is grueling. If you start from day one I think your chances are pretty good as a parent. My son wont eat anything healthy, so this week I have made him sit until he eats his veggies and have not given in. Well Guess what? He eats it!!! Go Figure, who would have known a litte consistancy would work....I am not saying people here are lazy this is just my experience.
What you are teaching your son is a wonderful thing, Michelle! Sometimes in life we have to do things we may not like but we must do them anyway. THAT is what you are teaching your child and to me, THAT is priceless!
When my son was about 9 he decided to get picky about what he ate, expected me to make him his own special meal. No way was I about to cook 2 different dinners!!
Our rules were that he could not go outside to play until he ate his dinner. He quickly learned to eat what was on the table!
My younger son had this "girlfriend" that he spoke with on the phone for about 1/2 hr. a day. When he would get off the phone, he wouldn't put it back on the charger so when it rang we had to search the house for the damn phone!
The phone rule became that if he did not put the phone back where it belongs when he's done with it he would loose phone privledges for the next day. Only one time did he make that mistake again and even agreed with us that he deserved the punishment.
One of our jobs as parents is to teach our children right from wrong. There is nothing right about hitting another person.. ANY person!
The whole thing reminds me of the "Thou shalt not kill" business. We are taught that and agree with it yet we send people to war- to kill people!! Then people can't figure out the stories in the news about a soldier killing here in the USA when they come home from war!
