Special needs child "voted" out of classroom

Dr. Phil is a dirtbag hack who likes to exploit people's problems. This guy wrote a diet book? Are you kidding me? Has he looked in the mirror?

Oh Dena, I have seen this over and over again. There us to be a Children's World daycare in Nashville, and while in school I worked there and it was terrible. One little boy was mute yet perfectly "Average" in everyway, yet the director kept pulling him out of my room 3-4y/0 and putting him with the younger students. He would cry and cry to stay with his friends yet the Director told me not to tell the parents. This kid was made fun of for being mute and for being in the baby class. Can you imagine the trauma?
I, of course, told the Dad and the boy was pulled from the daycare.

People would never ever leave their kids at daycare if they knew how some of the people really are there. This daycare closed down years ago because of bad management and a child was molested by a male teacher several years later.

I am not bashing all daycare centers but the ones I visit (for volunteer reasons) and the one I have actually worked in while in college hire only those with little education, (which is OK, as long as you love kids) and have no other work options besides fast food. The pay is min. wage with no benefits. The one I worked in, the teachers were married to men in prison and acted just plain ghetto around the kids. It was a bad place for anyone let alone a child.
Pixies you do a lot of volunteer work. Abused women shelters and also this. I admire people of give of their time this way.

You are such a pleasant poster Pal. Always a ray of sunshine. :D

I debated if I should post on this topic as my anger usually shows when I post on a subject like this. So I will just say this

This mother is doing the right thing. Children do not make the choice to have a handicap , however a teacher makes the choice to teach knowing they will be around children of many needs. This "teacher" needs to find a new line of work... She needs to be FIRED so she can not just pick up another job at a new school.

She should be ASHAMED of herself. What she did is unexcuseable.WTF is this school thinking standing behind this teacher?? ( and YES they are standing behind her if they did not fire her! They allowed her to quit)

Ok I better shut up now before I get angry and get banned lol

I don't care who he is as long as he gets the story out and gets the point across that this is not right. That teacher should be helping that child( and EVERY child she works with) not harming him

It doesn't take a bloated, self-righteous hick to tell me that singling out a child in class is wrong.

If Dr. Phil's audience doesn't get that now, and that little lightbulb in their otherwise empty heads suddenly flickers on after he says something COMPLETELY obvious then God help this country. God help us all.

I hadn't heard that she quit. Can you link to the article? I'd like to read it.
I thought I read in this thread that she resigned? if I am wrong I'm sorry.

ETA I was wrong .. she was given another job out of the class but did not quit. ugh

Well God help us then because it is not obvious to many people in the world. IMO the more times it is told the more people that see it and maybe just maybe a teacher will think before doing something like this .

Ugh, I see I'm going to have to put my Dr.Phil, Publicity 🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬 quote in my siggy again.

I am going to be the next Joe Francis. My series will be called "Teachers Gone Wild". Send your audio and video/digital tapes to me. Let's rid the world of these awful people now!

Earlier this year my ds told me something his teacher said that irritated me and I was *this* close to putting our little digital recorder in his pocket so I could hear this woman myself. He talked me out of it, but now I think I should have done it. Argh.

Let me know if you need help on this. Now there's another story about a teacher pushing an autistic kid. WTF??

Pixies - I, too, worked in a daycare and witnessed abuses there. When my "favorite" little boy split his head and needed stitches, the other workers said that he would be fine and refused to call his mother. (Or even hold him!) I grabbed him up, went to the office and by some miracle of miracles, found her number. I called her to come get him and told her that no matter her financial situation, she should NEVER bring him back.

She was so greatful and knew someone who knew someone and helped me get a great paying job and then we called and got the place shut down.

Thank you for telling in your situation, too.

PORT ST. LUCIE — Morningside Elementary kindergarten teacher Wendy Portillo told Port St. Lucie police she wanted 5-year-old Alex Barton to hear how his behavior was affecting his classmates. She said the vote was only to keep him out of class for the day, not for good.
"Portillo said she did this as she felt that if (Alex) heard from his classmates how his behavior affected them that it would make a bigger difference to him, rather than just hearing it from adults," states a report released Thursday morning from the Port St. Lucie Police Department.
Alex's mother filed a complaint with Morningside's school resource officer about the May 21 incident, saying her child told her he had been voted out of class at the encouragement of the teacher. http://www.tcpalm.com/news/2008/may/29/police-report-reveals-teachers-side-incident-which/

i am sure hearing every child in the room take turns telling him why they could not like him at the prompt of the teacher had a huge impact.

what i have been wondering is if the teacher was instrumental in having him diagnosed for the illness.
how could she not have been involved with that as she was with him each day all year.

so far from what i have read in the reports it was the principal that noticed the signs and suggested testing.

I have heard this teachers name before but I can't remember what about. i will research later, have to leave for a meeting right now.

The competition is all about being part of a team, about encouraging others on to do their very best. It’s about endurance and creativity, about being able to think on your feet and it teaches students all those skills while also having lots of fun.
It’s a mountain of work for everyone concerned, according to Wendy Portillo, a five-year team coach and teacher at Morningside, but the students lap it up.
