Spitballing on intent

Sophie,I agree, and I can't recall who it was,but there was more than one person who knew Patsy and said she enjoyed being in the spotlight...esp. now that JB was now immortalized as a little beauty queen. And she enjoyed being the mother of a dead beauty queen, plus being able to play the 'victim' of police, were something that gave her a level of fame she hadn't had before.IMO,she missed being in the spotlight since her own pageant days had passed, thus the reason JB was thrust into them...she was able to relive them,to some extent.
I think you were spot on about the funeral..Patsy herself even said she thought about Jackie Kennedy when she dressed the way she did..and I think going up to the coffin and kneeling, was a reenactment of that for her.(she said she didn't recall it,but I doubt that). But I'm not judging her...IMO,it was sign of how mentally unstable she was, which I think started bf JB's death.
It's just like when JR brought JB's body up from the basement, and Patsy spouted off her Lazarus line...I think she had that one planned!!
I don't know if you have read about the intervention Patsy's friends had planned for after Christmas with her;it was said at least part of it was to be about JB and how she was going so over the top w the pageants and JB's appearance and the sexual behavior she was being taught.IMO,Patsy was mentally ill to the extent others were noticing it and felt the need to intervene. And when others outside the family notice someone's odd,out of character behavior, there probably IS something really wrong.

What a brilliant post, JMO!

I didn't know too much about the intervention but it sounds as though people were starting to notice mental illness.

Again, real intent to murder is hard to infer from this theory but I think you'd be able to prove mens rea for Grievous Bodily Harm (sorry, I don't know what you guys call that) and therefore manslaughter at least would be easily enough proven. I have long since abandoned this theory (about three days after the murder actually) but a woman in my book group, having read ST's book and DoI is 100% convinced that this happened:

Patsy was obsessed with the pageants and wanted something that would give JBR an advantage. What better advantage than being a survivor of a kidnapping in terms of plucking at judges' heart strings? My friend theorises that Patsy either orchestrated the kidnapping herself and something went horribly awry resulting in JBR's death OR that Patsy had paid a low life to kidnap JBR and the lowlife went too far. 'We didn't mean for this to happen' is the point at which Patsy knowing something becomes obvious as far as my friend is concerned.

I don't subscribe to this theory but I thought I'd add it for discussion purposes.

On this I have heard people around me saying the same thing, the secret visit from Santa to we didn't mean for this to happen...And to wonder if this is one of the reason really to mess up the crime scene...But to hire someone,I don't think that cause if this was suppose to be a stunt I believe the R's would have someone that they trusted..But then I think that to keep themselves out of it the R's would have the person take the fall, cause we seen so far what the dream team can do..So in the end it stills goes back to the R's...

I didn't wanna bring this up because some might say again that we see things that aren't there but I am 100% sure that there was something wrong with PR.Was this the cause of JB's death,I don't know,I still think that JR might be the one responsible but maybe PR's illness, whatver it was ,played a big part in it.
