Star Jones is right about Barbara Walters

ITA, B.W. did not need to publicly name that man. If she wanted to let everyone know she had an affair with a married man, she should have kept his name a secret to protect the wife at the time and his children from that marriage.
I used to respect her and her career. But she has to be aware how today's information on the superhighway works and how easy it is for anyone who would want to find the ex wife and/or her kids 'just to get a comment' would be. Or, even if not for that just think of the public humiliation it may have caused them.
IMO- she invaded their privacy by naming the Senator.
I'm completely perplexed as to why she would that....
The former Senator gave his permission to BW to name him in the book. I would assume he had already told his ex-wife and their children. BW TOLD WHO it was because he is African American - which just wasn't "done" by people in the public eye in the 70's. If she hadn't named him, but just said he was a senator and African American it wouldn't have taken a savvy person long to figure out who it was. Telling the story without naming the man makes it appear that she was ashamed - not of the affair, but the Senator as a person - which might have been misinterpreted as racist.

It's her life and frankly, she is getting nearer to the end...why wouldn't she write the TRUTH? She might not be proud of an affair with a married man, but their relationship is relevant in MANY WAYS - some that trump carrying that secret into her grave. Geeze Louise - we get photos and reports of celebrities doing EVERYTHING these days - their private lives are an open book (plastic surgery, sex, affairs, drunk driving, drug rehab and all) - in comparison THIS revelation about BW and her Senator having an affair 30+ years ago is so mild it's almost irrelevant.

My Opinion

hmmmm now I'm wondering if she had any other affairs but the men did not say it was ok with them to have her write about it?

Even if the ex-wife, Remigia, wanted to comment she couldn't because she has been dead for 13 years. She died in 1994.

Aahhh... ok. I was unaware that he gave her permission. Thanks for clearing that part up.

Did she answer her own dumbest question..."If you were a tree, what kind of three would you be?" :crazy:

She's a living legend that is going on 79 years old... she wrote her memoirs and told the truth, good and bad... I kind of don't understand the disdain. Does she need to get over herself? Well, she's going on 79, still kicking it, and she's a woman that historically changed the face of news media for women: dang, she's earned the right to be full of herself. LoL

I just finished reading the book... it was a slow read at times... but overall, it was pretty good. I think it may be leading up to her walking towards official retirement... and who better to tell her story, but her own self. If she hadn't, then books would have ended up coming out, probably filled with half-truths and rumors. The naming of whom she was engaged in an affair at one time, probably would have been printed, sooner or later... but only she knew the truth... so she told it.

:clap::clap::clap::clap:

Wonder how it would be seen if the shoe had been on the other foot. If he had written a book first exposing his affair with Barbara Walters?
