State Funded Muslim school?

  • #21
It's a state law in Minnesota that the Pledge of Allegiance must be recited once per week. I'm betting this isn't done.

Wouldn't be done in a school dominated by Jehovah's Witnesses, either.

Muslim does not equal anti-American. The Muslims I know embrace America and all of its values whole-heartedly.

Sure doesn't seem All-American if this charter school, as per state law, does not have the flag displayed. I don't know about the Pledge - just guessing.

Maybe the director (principal) took a crash course in how the flag pole works. As of today, the school is flying the American flag, per state law. The curriculum and prayers are probably going to be under more scrutiny per the Department of Education.

According to state law, prayers cannot be mandatory, cannot be adult led, and teachers are not permitted to attend. It appears what has been happening violates the law.

Also, after school Quran classes, according to the director, are not mandatory, yet the buses do not leave until after these classes. Finally, students were required to place Quran lessons in their planners just like other classes. It will be interesting to see what changes.

The "parent" school's funding is also being investigated.

It's not that anyone should be anti-Muslim, but let's be fair about religious practices in public schools. I can only imagine what would happen if the Lord's Prayer was led by adults in an assembly and/or if the Bible was taught after school while the school buses waited.

From the link: He declined, however, to allow me to visit the school to see for myself, "due to the hectic schedule for statewide testing." But after I e-mailed him that the Minnesota Department of Education had told me that testing would not begin for several weeks, Zaman did not respond -- even to urgent calls and e-mails seeking comment before my first column on TIZA."

It's a public school. Anyone can visit.

Absolutely right.

Which is all good news, but too bad it took a substitute teacher reporting that. They should monitor carefully whether or not the school ever allows "outside" substitutes again. That would be another red flag, and I don't mean like the one the principal couldn't "manage" to fly.

I think the school should be shut down or put on an intense oversight schedule. They've been caught clearly violating the law and intending to deceive about it.

The principal stated he doesn't know how to work the flag pole.

If only there were people who posessed this kind of knowlege and could pass that along to others.

Oh yeah. They're called TEACHERS.
