State rests rebuttal case- thread #163

I apologize in advance as this is going to be graphic. I will space down some so that the folks who don't want to read it can scroll quickly past.

When a person dies the body goes through changes. Bloating occurs and the skin begins to rip and tear apart because of it. Since Travis was not found for 5 days his body had gone through some major changes. What was at one time a small wound would appear much larger. The cuts on Travis' hands are a good example of this. If you take a look at the autopsy photos you can see how the wound was opened more by the skin being stretched by his body bloating. The neck wound is the same thing. It was opened up more by the changes in his body during the decomp stage. I hope this explains it well enough.

Brought this over from last threat as it closed before I got it posted :seeya:

I know "wifey" .... I have written before that I am almost making myself sick following this trial. I just have a sick feeling in my stomach as things are drawing to the end. I am so paranoid about victims getting justice with today's jurors, multi-media and corrupt defence attorneys throwing so many lies and so much spin into their cases. Something really, really needs to be done about that. I digress ....

But ... anyway ... I just wanted to express that I know EXACTLY how you're feeling. I can't understand how she won't be convicted of premeditated murder and given the DP. But I am still sick about the FCA case and still can't understand that either. I do, however, believe that this jury is very smart ... something I don't believe the FCA jury was ... they didn't understand the "reasonable doubt" instruction. They would only convict "beyond ANY doubt". Breaks my heart. That is one B...ch who should no longer be roaming free on this planet. Poor little Caylee.

OMG ... my emotions are out of control. I can't wait till this is over. I need to get my life back. Sorry for venting ... but you guys on this board are the only peeps who will listen
scared.gif
Besides, I'm sure I'm not alone in this panic-stricken state .... okaaaay ... eeeaaaaaannnd ... breathing slow and deep .. ... and ... again .....
okay.gif

Me TOO!! I'm so worried! ...I keep hoping and praying for justice...and have faith... But, I'm STILL SO WORRIED!!!

** Maybe we need to start holding prayer vigils every night until Thurs!!!! **

I have a very hard time feeling any sympathy for Dan Freeman. He may say now that he was "used" by the defense team but he was deposed and knew where they would go with the questions he was asked during that question time. The defense and the state would not put someone on the stand without deposing them first to see what they know and if they have any information that may be useful. It sounds to me as if Dan now has some sort of buyers remorse. Perhaps he should have considered all of the options back in 2010 when he first had contact with the defense team.

And on another note, can we please either drop the organ transplant talk or at least take it to the proper thread (if there is one) for it? Please and thank you/

I took an instant dislike to Dan Freeman. The first time I saw him (either on the witness stand or a TV interview) he said he thought Travis was 'cocky' when he first met him. Then it became known that he was a regular visitor of Jodi's in the jail. Personally, I think he had a crush on her. And...I think he was enjoying his 15 minutes! In any event, he was no friend to Travis. MOO

Hunting is really popular in the area of Northern California where JA is from (Yreka/Redding). There are tons of hunters and hunting supplies are very easy to find in a lot of stores. Her grandfather may have had a few hunting knives laying around...

For some reason, I have always thought that the knife came from one of the many restaurants in which she worked. They keep those knives very sharp there. Could be a hunting knife, but I thought of it coming from/being stolen from, one of her restaurants.

Oh yeah, who is doing closing arguments Nurmi or Wilmott?

I would assume both, split it up between the two. Juan, on the other hand, all by himself. I cannot wait witness it. Closing arguments are like having completed a puzzle, then rewinding, pointing out how each piece fits together. His should be powerful. Theirs, not so much,........... it will be like listening to the adults talking on Charlie Brown. :shakehead::shakehead::shakehead::shakehead:

* fixed it, I did the quote incorrectly.

A couple of my concerns are health issues, which could be taken care of by careful screening, but then that prisoner would have to be segregated from all others until the time of donation, so they don't contract anything in between testing and donation. It COULD be done, but seems the cost and effort would be prohibitive. The prison population, unfortunately, has a very high rate of some diseases that would prohibit donation, esp Hepatitis C and they would have to be VERY careful in who was allowed to donate, lest they give the person receiving the organ even further complications.

Another is the prison environments possible affect on donation. Having had a relative in prison, it is VERY clear that there is definitely an environment of "if a prisoner does this, the guards will do that". Unfortunately, if a prisoner believes donating may make their stay better, they may be unduly influenced to donate after death. Some can say that will not/ cannot happen, but I know this situation is happening over much less issues than organ donation.

There are those that are afraid that jurors would be more likely to give DP if they knew the prisoner would be donating organs upon death. I don't really believe that line of thinking, as taking a life is a weighty decision and them donating organs upon death would not lessen that weight for me.

No matter what happens with prisoner organ donation, I don't think it will EVER be okay to harvest organs on those who have not willing and fully agreed and I don't believe anyone else here on this forum is suggesting that.

I am not close minded on the discussion, but where I am right now is that the possible negatives make it unworkable with legal and ethical boundaries.

I think that even if it were an option, and the state and Arias agreed - it should still be up to the Alexander family.

From my point of view, if someone slaughtered my brother, I would want NO PART of his murderer to be alive. In any way, shape or form.

I would want all traces of the murderer eradicated from the earth.

Regarding wheeling Grandma in 'for effect'....the last jury I served, the DT did the same thing. Only in my case, Grandma was well into her 80's, very feeble and just so sad to see...but it had ZERO effect on any of us. If any of us were empathizing with her, it never, ever entered into deliberations. Far as I could tell, it didn't even color any of the other jurors interpretation of any of the evidence. Nice try, DT, but it's not an effective tool.....

I totally agree... In fact, I think with her grandma's facial expressions, and even rolling her eyes at times, it had the opposite effect than what they were wanting!!

Since only a Dr can administer the execution drugs, what's the difference if they removed the viable heart and other organs instead?

Doctors cannot administer drugs for execution without violating the Hippocratic oath.

Similar to Jodi's dad being in court. While mom sits there writing away, taking her notes and laughing with her friends dad sat there with a look of complete disgust on his face. Bad idea to bring him in and more than likely the reason why he was only there for a very short period of time.

I know that I'm skipping forward here, in keeping with being optimistic.

Does anyone know much about Victim Impact Statements in the penalty phase? How many victims (members of Travis's family) could make statements? Is there anything that might be disallowed during this phase? Will JM assist them in the preparation of the statement(s)?

If the US is anything like Canada - Victim impact statements are read during the penalty phase - only IF the person wishes them to be read publically (the judge can read them privately).

No one is permitted to coach a VIS in Canada - even for a minor. I'm assuming this is the same in the US. That's considered interference.

A victim impact statement (VIS) is intended to reflect the personal POV of anyone victimized by the crime - not to reflect a prosecutor's stand or belief or that of any other person.

I'm not sure how much of Dr. G I'm going to be able to handle.... I'm going to want to watch but will probably end up yelling at the live feed and scaring my critters.... I also have doubts about being able to stomach any of the DT's closing. I will NOT miss JM's closing. Not even a minute of it.
I have to figure out how to get a phone alert for the verdict... I can't imagine not hearing it as it's announced.... I'll be scared to death to actually hear it. I don't want to spend days in tears again...bad, bad memories of that other trial. Are any of us ever really going to get over that travesty of justice?

I believe she cut him intentionally, and from behind.

With her ambidexterity, she grabbed his hair with one hand and yanked his head up. Then, with the knife in the other, she slashed his throat.

JA's arm is only so long and, from behind, happened to strike at that angle, whereupon she drew it across.

That's the most straightforward explanation for that fatal wound; one of the three which JA inflicted on Travis Alexander.

I believe that it's true, and I hope it helps.

Oh yes! I think the picture of her foot and leg behind Travis' head is when she did it. His shoulders and head appear to be up off the floor. The blood is streaming down his shoulder, but not nearly the amount you would expect for that injury. I think it happened moments before that picture snapped. This may have been when the convulsing started, and the reason she shot him. I wonder if this picture was taken near where the bullet casing was found?

Lol! ...send her pictures of you sipping strawberry Frappachino's from a luxurious resort in Cancun!

which IMO is why she told ALV she hurt her finger when she was cutting an apple. So sick!

Omg! Are you serious??!!! ....I continue to be amazed and dumbfounded at the minds of sociopaths how how they think....

I would suggest that no one send Jodi a picture of themselves and that no one send anything with your true and accurate mailing address on it. Even though Jodi will be in prison, death row or life, she does have friends on the outside that appear willing and able to do anything she wants.
