I'm not a widow, but definitely security conscious. My husband used to travel on business quite a bit. My .357 has a bright red pin-point laser grip on it.

:seeya:

Good thing Cary folks don't have that - they'd never get the laser to operate without the judge's help.

Don't you think it would have been prudent for police to put some of the details they were receiving from the public on the news?

HP was even more important than a "tipster" because she is a key witness. She lost a lot of credibility when she made up the screw-back earring detail and worked with police to stifle pictures that did not show NC wearing the necklace. She shouldn't have lied, it looks very suspicious.

Yeah, and because she was a key witness, she got her follow up from CPD. And I reckon they solicited every bit of info they could get from her. I don't see how tipsters and key witnesses are supposed to get the same level of attention from the police.

I thought the witness's testimony about NC using her as an alibi was interesting. It makes it not such a leap to wonder if HP and JA were also used as alibis, especially when you consider inconsistencies such as CC saying NC was jogging at Lake Johnson Thursday but HP stating she was with her that morning.

Of course, Bottle Cap, they could have been waiting around until Sunday morning to be arrested! They heard about 3 squares and a cot, plus free medical care, and they thought a jail in Cary might be a little more upscale, possibly terry cloth robes and all. *that was my sarcasm, in case it didn't come across well enough**

I welcome all common sense folk with open arms!! :great:

No, the 3 squares, cot and free medical care they're already getting is better than the Cary jail...(tongue firmly in cheek).

the brad has no one to blame but himself for his deeds. Nothing credible out there IMO
their has been great effort to make obscure possiblities stand out as relevant in a case where the defendant was unable to be ruled out as suspect.

and there's the deposition. his piece of work. his face. his story.

I was describing WHO the lady was, not what she was doing when she saw them, sorry.

BUT, seriously....do you think if that lady had walked up on killers in the act of disposing of a body, that lady wouldn't be in the ditch right along with Nancy?

Who knows whether or not they had any knowledge of the disappearance of NC? Had no idea they were parked near the dump site? Maybe they were just hanging out at the construction site, retrieving tools, there could be any number of explanations.

My question is, why wouldn't the CPD want to find them and talk to them? What if these guys could have been of use to the investigation? What if they themselves saw something out of the ordinary?

Yeah, and because she was a key witness, she got her follow up from CPD. And I reckon they solicited every bit of info they could get from her. I don't see how tipsters and key witnesses are supposed to get the same level of attention from the police.

I wasn't talking about the same level of attention. I was pointing out the inaccurate information the police were given by a key witness because you brought up that if they added something later it would look suspicious. But the tipsters didn't call later to add details...the key witnesses did. That raised a red flag (to me), especially since their added information conflicts with the official story.

My late husband had a whole display case with weapons. He had shotguns, rifles, and handguns. He carried a small derringer in an ankle holster. The FOP engraved his service revolver with his date of retirement.

All of the guns are registered, insured, and work.

Not sure how we got on this subject, LOL! I am so looking forward to the closing arguments in this case.

It was Sunday morning, not Saturday that the Hispanic guys were in the neighborhood? Back to the scene of the crime but undercover cause the van was another color now? Dumb crook news if I ever heard it. I just can't believe this is what they got.

What time are they due back??..Nadd yet..anyone remember?

Bottle Cap,

Has the CPD identified and spoken to the men associated with that van?

1) if you were a detective don't you think it would be helpful to your investigation to talk to them (an not necessarily as suspects), bearing in mind the time they were seen there and the loc of the body?

2) Would you think if they were construction workers they would be pretty easy to track down?

3) If they were not construction workers, or working for anyone there you might want to know exactly what they were doing there.

Okay, I just have to say this, what makes you think construction workers would be pretty easy to track down? Have you actually dealt with any construction workers lately? In the last ten years we've had everything from a new driveway put in at our old house, to dry wall work, painting, not counting all the workers who built our new home. Oh yeah, we also had a big screen porch added to our new house. Not a single one of those jobs included more than one person who actually spoke english at all. My very old jr. high spanish got a real work out. Broken spanish/english 'can work' with much levity on both sides. One of my sons in law is an area or distict manager with a large building company. Pretty much the only spanish he speaks is manyana (sp?), and the spanish word for monday. I said to him "I didn't know you could speak spanish,' and he replied, 'I only need to say 'tomorrow' and when it comes to friday, I have to know how to say 'monday' to see if I can get 'em back again next week. When we have hired out work, like our big drive-way project or the screen porch, I have watched the job foreman pay the workers in cash at the end of each work day. It's not like these people even have names, much less residences, for the most part.

No, the 3 squares, cot and free medical care they're already getting is better than the Cary jail...(tongue firmly in cheek).

BBM: Actually, most all jails, correctional facilities, and prisons have started charging inmates and arrestees for medical care as well as their prescriptions. Of course it is at a small rate, tho. This was started in our state maybe as long as 5 years ago.

Those inmates/arrestees not having cash in their account will show a negative balance and that balance will be taken out of any funds they happen to receive in the future.

MOO

I found it interesting that someone who hadn't been close with Nancy in years felt it important to call the police within 10 days of Nancy missing to report information from 7 years before - 7 (seven) years before - of a gossipy nature, but somehow it's suspicious for a current best friend to call the police after several hours of Nancy being out of contact with all family and friends to ask for a direction in what they thought *she* should do, not asking for the police to do anything but give her directions on what she should do. I'm trying to weigh out how it's okay to call in gossipy 7 year old info against how it's very suspicious for someone who knew Nancy well currently and knew the situation at home currently and how close Nancy was to her children currently - because she's gossipy and nosey? Hmmmm, I'll have to think on that a little longer, I guess.

With what I know about construction and the immigration status of Hispanic construction workers, I'd say theres about a snowballs chance in hell of tracking them down.

Opps, should have read a bit further before responding. Thanks!

Long time WS here, I have not had nerve to post, just wondering why this one thing is so important to you? Do you think that HP killed Nancy, do you think this is just an honest mistake on her part? I have two pairs of diamond earrings (tiny ones so I am not bragging) both pairs have screw backs, my 9 year old daughter got her ears pierced for her birthday, she got cubic zirconia earrings, hers have screw backs, I might assume that all diamond-ish earrings have screwbacks and say the same thing. Does that make me a suspect?

And a liar, no less. I thought one of the posting rules here was not calling innocent witnesses deroggatory names?

Something else I wonder, then I'll leave y'all alone.

I know the jury is mostly african american. Am I barking up the wrong tree to think that there maybe have been a hint of bias in naming the men as Hispanics? And that maybe it won't sit well with the jury, for them to be suspicious Hispanics instead of just suspicious men? I only ask this because it didn't sit too well with me.

Bottle Cap - can I ask a personal question? How thick is your hide?

P.S. I only ask because I sure hope it's thick - it will need to be. I can show you my scars, if you want me to.
