I don't know many people that cash in all their investments, retirement funds, etc for a custody battle ... just saying. It's never ending, so people usually put forth what is available in a savings and current earnings.

I know people who have gone into heavy debt 'for their children'.

What people feel they can afford will vary greatly regardless of how much money they have in the bank or otherwise have access. Does it come across as cold and not quite believable? Yes, to me it does. But that is not a gotcha moment either that proves anything beyond a reasonable doubt to me.

Terribly disappointed in this testimony. It's slow, hard to follow and Cummings seems very uncertain of himself. Really, really poorly presented and again we risk a mistrial (I do not think a jury of 12 will ever acquit Jason Young).

I attended the Samantha Runnion murder trial. I too was at first taken aback by how undramatic the pros and def lawyers appeared. But the jury isn't there for drama and they're soaking up every word. They look on it differently than we do, in the comfort of our own home or whatever. They watching every move, very closely.

That was a heartbreaking case, such a beautiful little girl.

That guy should have never been out of jail from a prior charge.

The Judge who let him out should also feel guilty every single day.

:(

I have a feeling JY is going to have a VERY light lunch today. I would imagine he has a little indigestion after hearing this testimony this morning.

Good! About time he started sweating it!

If a defendant will LIE on the stand about little things, s/he will LIE about the big things too. How many lies will he be given a pass for? At what point does his version of a story become unbelievable? After 5 lies? 10 lies? 20 lies? At what point will you wonder why he is lying at all?

Klink would be organized, articulate and crystal clear if he was doing this.
It's sad the state has such a weak team seeking justice for Michelle.

Why did he not have the heat pump fixed????? did he not care because he was never home?? He had to have some of that money when michelle was alive! moo :maddening:

Me too! My poor mom refinanced her paid off home to help my little sis get her daughter back. She was taken by the noncustodial father to South America. It was very expensive, but that didn't stop them from trying. Unfortunately, she was unsuccessful. :(

PS, fyi, she's now reunited with her daughter and sees her regularly. :)

Not sure the money proves what he could afford. I agree with someone else here that legal fees could eat through this amount pretty quickly. He also had no way to produce new income, so he may have been considering that as well.

I also don't see how it really impacts motive. Depends on if the jury thinks $24,000 - $60,000 is a lot of money.

He was found 'not guilty' in the previous case IIRC. The two little girls he molested were NOT believed at trial.

Well, it MAY have been because he lost HIS money on his online gambling. But, he didn't loose more than he had.

While MY and CY sat at home freezing.

just sayin'

I don't see this part as crap at all. It was his own testimony that he couldn't afford to contest the custody case. Obviously, he did. And, yes, if you want your child, you will spend every last dime to make that happen.
jmo and all that jazz

For years we were told, it was because MY was not going to be able to work full time, after the baby came,
and that would hurt their income greatly.

Then her boss testifies that they were agreeing on a plan Michelle worked out, where she could still work 30 hours a week,
and be reached on her days off and receive full time benefits...It was ready to be submitted to see if it would be okay.

But, its that one BIG thing that has always been missing, and it still is.
Like a MOTIVE.

Why did Jason kill Michelle?

Doesn't look like money......

Freedom?

This guy was out of town 1-2 x a month.

Michelle Money?

Were they were going to kill MM's husband, Steve. too?

He hated MY so much.

For what?

Because they argued, and he didn't like her Mom ?

So?
And?

I quite agree.

Unfortunately, it's possible the jury could not care less about the lies.

Didn't he say he lost his family? Weren't his wife and daughter his family?

think he said 'some family' and it didn't come across as "my wife and daughter".

I would. My son is everything to me!!

I understood that the Fisher's wanted visitation and that visitation was proceeding. After that, the Fisher's continued to pursue Jason ... most likely with the objective of forcing him to testify so he could be nailed for the murder. It sounds like it was going to be a never ending battle and that even if he put forth all the money he had available through an equity line or retirement fund, it would have continued until he was broke and then he would have lost custody

Yeah, Howard's bumbling senior moments are one of the biggest handicaps this team has. When he's in these phases (which seem to be at least 65% of the time), it is excruciating. Combine that with the "ummm...uhhh...ummm" from BH and it should be a crime.

I am literally yelling at my computer screen, "Spit it out Howard! For Gawd's sake spit it out!"

Many, many years ago, I had a family member on the jury for one of HC's capital cases. They thought he had some sort of impairment, based on his manner of speaking. Then they realized it was partly an act, and they really disliked his performance from that point on. Still thought he was a powerful attorney, and voted guilty, but found the manner of presentation distasteful.
