I have a feeling this just backfired on the defense, and now they (and the jury!) have an hour to mull this over. Is it too late for him to take a plea deal?
Please be patient with me as I must make this comment again. Keep in mind, this is only the second case I've followed. I also followed another one which shall remain unnamed.
I was immediately struck by the difference in the judges. This judge appears to weigh things carefully, is more involved in testimony, has a kinder demeaner to everyone involved in the case, and he is efficient and wastes no time. He obviously has a great deal of concern for the time, travel, effort, possibly lost work days, lost wages, childcare, etc witnesses. And I believe he shows respect to the jury, which gains the judge his trust.
In all, this Judge is an oustanding, well-bred individual. He's not insecure and is not interested in politics or television time. All Wake County judges should attend a few seminars conducting by him. He's the cream of the crop.
Oh, and this ADA is awesome too. I thought the two ADA's in the last case I followed were tweedle dee and dweedle dum. And they both seemed to grandstand and have future political aspirations.
2 hrs 40 min to get from Hillsville, VA to his home in Raleigh. Leaving at midnight, he'd arrive by 2:40am (maybe earlier if he really was speeding).
3am - 3:30am NYT delivery person sees light colored SUV at or near house, with all the lights on. What 'burgler' would turn on all the lights? What 'burgler' would wash little C's feet, give her adult meds and tuck her back into bed? What 'burgler' would pass by MY's purse and not take the wallet?
5:27am JLY is back in King, NC getting gas, being rude to the clerk, and making an impression.
6:15am ish - JLY is back at the Hampton Inn, turning that camera away (again).
GUILTY!

I'm going to get flamed for saying this. And I think JY is guilty.
BUT... From the testimony (and emails) thus far, I understand why JY had an issue with LF. She seems to be a loving mother but also a needy person. She overstepped her boundries constantly and was intrusive in their lives.
I don't believe this behavior was in any way malicious on the part of LF. However, her visits and expectations were excessive. Her own daughter had issues with LF spreading her own news (pregnancy, then later gender of the baby), and her daughter stated in that email that her mother just didn't seem to get it no matter how much she told her. Contacting her daughter's mother-in-law to relay an argument was not her place.
Telling false things to the media...I get the concern.
Completely understand their issues with LF. Now when it comes to MF, I don't understand why she would have been kept from C. for any reason. JY himself stated "thank god for Meredith", and talked about what a good head she had on her shoulders. JY had great respect for her.

I can't believe she would question MF's actions at the crime scene. I thought she did great. I am not sure I could have handled it that well.
